Flip the Coin [BL]-Chapter 88 - . Underground
Chapter 88 - 88. Underground
"You have a gun... Take it out... What if there are monsters?" The girl said tremblingly.
"Don't command him." Henry spat like a loyal dog, and the girl winced when he was tightening his hold on her legs.
"When we are down there, I will draw my gun." I said. Now we had to walk down; the space was open, and there was enough time to conjure it up. And we finally had light on our side; that alone was a massive help.
The debris and chunks, the streets that were vertically perking out of the ground—all this was at eye level with us standing on the hill with the forest behind us. So we couldn't oversee everything. It was like looking at a kaleidoscope, where everything just ended up deformed.
"Let's go." I took a few steps, and Henry followed up.
"Do...do you just want to look around?" The girl asked hesitantly. It was clear that she didn't want to set a foot in what was left of our world.
"Yeah." I said.
"A-aren't I hindering you?"
Before I answered, Henry spoke.
"You are. Can we leave you somewhere down there?"
"You can't leave me behind, please no...." The girl started to cry frantically.
"I will carry her; let her down. We'll take turns." I said. We have promised to get her out; we can't leave her somewhere here when she is that scared.
Henry ignored either of us and just continued to walk while carrying her, a scowl on his face.
Amidst the black grass, we arrived at the flat land, the crater, or whatever. Before us were what we had seen before, only that this time I had a better look at askew houses, halfway sunk in the black earth, halfway melted together with other houses; it was a really devastating sight.
Just looking at what was in front of us, it was clear that there was no way we could continue with carrying the girl. We would have to climb up the debris to move forward; we can't continue with the three of us.
First, we need to find some resting/hiding place.
"There, let's go there to rest." I pointed at a building not far away, which had a few holes in the brick walls but seemed stable enough.
Henry grunted, and we made our way there.
After we went in the building through the hole, there was an askew floor, but nothing too dramatic. The furniture was damaged badly, things thrown around, some beams greatly misplaced, and now either protruding straight up or diagonally through the room. Still, at least the window glasses were still intact, albeit with spiderwebs in them.
"You two wait here." I said, turning around to Henry, who walked to a couch.
"No. Let's leave her here." Henry put the girl down; at least he was cautiously with her, through it was clear he was done with carrying the burden.
"No." I shook my head while the girl buried her face in her hands in desperation after being placed on the sofa.
"Don't you remember what useless pity brought you into?" Henry asked with a self-mocking smile, and I was furious to hear that out of his mouth.
"What did you just say, you fucker?" I tilted my head at him.
Henry opened his mouth before closing it again.
"You are my dog, remember? Right now, I am ORDERING you to look after her while I am away. When I come back, you can leave and do whatever you want." I made it clear while looking straight into his eyes, which had become eerily blue.
Henry calmed down considerably and looked at the ground.

"Understood." He eventually said.
I snorted and turned to look at the girl.
"He won't harm you; I need one or two hours, then I'll be back." I took my backpack down and gave them the remaining protein bars as well as more water. The empty bottle I left with me, hoping to find water on the way.
I went through the possibilities to communicate with them. Then I remembered the fireworks I had personally lit some time ago on New Year's. That was it.
"If I need more time, I will light a firework."
Henry's head shot up.
"Every hour. Light a firework so that I know you are alright. Two fireworks for when you need an additional two hours, and so on."
I didn't want to lengthen the discussion and nodded.
I had no watch and Henry shouldn't as well, so we had to decide the time after feeling.
"Leave the gun with us..." The girl didn't look at either of us, and Henry scowled at her demands.
"Can't." I answered. Even if I wanted to, it would disappear in two minutes anyway.
"See you." I said to nobody specific. The girl didn't look up again, and Henry nodded solemnly when I turned and jumped out of the window on the first asphalt chunk below.
The first problem showed itself; I needed to use a streetlight to slide down from it; this would be extremely straining with someone on your back. And it didn't remain the only time when I had to get a bit creative in the way to move forward. If one ignored the state of the street and houses, it was like moving forward in a city because no matter in which direction I turned my head, there was no black forest anymore. Only buildings.
What exactly am I looking for right now? For any sign of the glorious villa of my grandmother's. I also tried to get a feeling of where I exactly was, if I recognized any shop or anything.
Back then, when everything was fine, and as long as I had lived with my parents, later without my mother, we would visit her occasionally. Not that the old dragon would see us any other time than to the meals.
Still, I remember shops, and I remember other prominent things around her mansion or on the way to her.
It took me an hour until I recognized something. In front of me was the church tower that was near her, only that it lay horizontally in front of my feet, needing me to climb it up, as around me were only asphalt and car smashes.
I also lit up the fireworks. I hope it doesn't lure monsters here, but even if it did, I would be far away until they had located me. There was a strong possibility that Henry wouldn't be able to see them from the building I had left him in, but he would definitely be able to hear.
It was extremely silent here—no animals, no humans naturally, nothing else. This silence was also prominent in the forest, but I didn't feel it so strongly because I was not alone.
Reaching the up the church tower, was only possible with the help of a big trashcan that lay around, and it was a lot of work to get it closer to the church tower. Additionally, I had to conjure up a ladder to get on top.
When I finally managed, I was thirsty and went for my last water bottle. From here, I could see something peeking out in between asphalt chunks; it was a corner of a building. Literally, a fucking corner, which had corny ornaments on them.
This was it. My grandma's house.
I let myself hang from the church tower to shorten the distance before I jumped down. Then I walked to the corner. It was the only part of her mansion that I saw.
"Fuck."
If this corner was still attached to the rest of the building, then it was buried underground.
"Damn it, fuck."
