Flirted Wrong, Married Right-Chapter 823: You’ll Regret It
Shane felt a bit embarrassed.
In their circle, bringing someone to a friend’s wedding was akin to telling all attending family and friends that the person you brought as a date or companion is someone you are either in a relationship with or have feelings for.
Shane rarely saw his male friends bringing their sisters or female family members to weddings.
It was almost always someone they liked or were romantically involved with.
He thought about bringing Evelyn Clayton...
It wasn’t impossible, and he really wanted to, but Shane was afraid Evelyn would misunderstand or be put off.
Shane didn’t speak for a moment, but on the other end of the phone, Pauline Warren seemed to see through him.
"Shane, you need to act quickly. You can’t keep playing the secret admirer. At least let Evelyn know how you feel about her," Pauline advised earnestly. "Otherwise, Evelyn will surely be taken away by that guy named James!"
Hearing the words "taken away," a flicker of gloom crossed Shane’s eyes.
When he realized he was feeling jealous and resentful of James Grant, even Shane felt a bit disgusted with himself.
When Evelyn first came to the Sinclair Family, he had secretly vowed to treat her like his own sister.
But time trickled by, and yet he developed these feelings.
If Evelyn felt the same, it would be fine; but Shane could clearly feel that Evelyn regarded him as just a brother.
Shane’s mood dipped slightly, his gaze lowered, as he spoke truthfully to Pauline.
"Mom, I don’t want it all to be out in the open and not even be able to be siblings with Evelyn anymore." Shane’s voice grew hoarse, "You know Evelyn’s temperament. If she doesn’t want to do something, if she doesn’t like someone, she won’t pretend otherwise."
Pauline was silent for two seconds, then sighed.
"I know. That’s exactly why I’m anxious," Pauline’s voice softened a bit, "It’s not that I’m pushing you; it’s just that I’m so happy knowing you like Evelyn. But Shane, let me ask you one thing: if, and I mean if, Evelyn gets hurt by that James Grant and never dates or approaches any men for the rest of her life, would you still stay by her side forever?"
Shane let out a brief laugh, "Mom, ’forever’ is a long time, I can’t say for sure."
Pauline chuckled, "Do I not know you? You seem mature and composed, but you are very stubborn and persistent. Once you’ve decided on something, you don’t care about anything else. Of course, I’m not saying you can’t be like that; I’m just reminding you that if something really happens, you might regret it."
"You’ll regret not taking the chance to get close to her, and then you’ll have to watch her live her whole life alone, with you only able to be by her side as a brother."
"Why be afraid of not being siblings? Even if you confess and get rejected, it doesn’t mean you two will become enemies. Evelyn is still the daughter of your father and me. We’re still a family. Evelyn might be stubborn, but she’s not cold-hearted. What are you afraid of?"
Pauline’s words suddenly made Shane see things clearly.
Shane gripped the phone tightly, "So Mom, did you talk to Evelyn about the wedding?"
Hearing this, Pauline knew Shane was wavering and became even happier.
"I already did! Evelyn agreed! Otherwise, why would I ask you? Just be confident and take Evelyn with you, okay?"
