Food Stall: Customers Chase Me across the Country-Chapter 267 - 268: You’re Actually Pretty Nice
"Boss, does this dipping sauce have sesame paste?"
"What?"
Wang Fan doubted his ears.
"Sesame paste, the kind you dip with hot pot."
Zhu Yuxiao explained, "How can you eat anything without sesame paste for flavor?"
Wang Fan shook his head with a smile and a sigh, "We really don’t have that."
Zhu Yuxiao sighed, "No worry, luckily I have some stocked in my dorm, I’ll take it back and eat with it."
Wang Fan asked curiously, "This is the first time I’ve heard of dipping Steamed Buns in sesame paste. Is it just you who does this?"
Zhu Yuxiao shook his head, "How could that be? We Tianjin people love sesame paste. It doesn’t matter what it is, once you dip it in sesame paste, it becomes super delicious!"
Wang Fan nodded thoughtfully, deciding he should explore the local culture over the weekend.
While Zhu Yuxiao went back to get his sesame paste, everyone else mostly bought the food and ate it in the cafeteria. Wrapping it in a bag definitely affects the taste and texture of these pan-fried buns and potstickers quite a bit.
After a whole morning of studying, rewarding yourself at noon with these delicious pan-fried buns and potstickers was indeed a perfect plan.
Familiar faces gathered together, some talking about studies, others gossiping.
"These pan-fried buns are amazing, I’ve been eating them for two days straight, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I’m still not tired of them."
"Of course, if you want, you could buy something else and eat it together. But nothing else compares to these buns, eating others just feels a bit unsatisfying."
"I heard from a friend online that there’s some food world wild boss called Boss Wang, who supposedly makes super delicious things. I think that’s somewhat exaggerated — they should come and try our pan-fried buns, bet they’d salivate."
"Hey, how much can you trust things online? These streamers look like Xi Shi. Once the beauty filter’s off, even my grandma would think it’s too much."
While preparing the next batch of potstickers, Wang Fan suddenly realized he seemed to have forgotten to reserve any food for himself. But then thought, those four people probably couldn’t finish that one big pot anyway, so he’d reheat it later.
Putting the potstickers in the pan was interesting. The long plate of wrapped potstickers was pushed into the pan, lining up like little plantains all neatly arranged, forming circles in the pan, even easier than the pan-fried buns.
Then pour in the rapeseed oil, quickly turning the skin golden and crispy, resembling perfectly ripe little plantains even more.
Watching students were in no rush, rather mesmerized, watching the dough and filling transform into food right before their eyes — a unique experience for them.
Zhang Yang stood in line, turning to the blond, blue-eyed classmate behind him and said, "Kerry, today I’ll treat you to some really tasty pan-fried buns. You surely haven’t had anything like them in Germany."
Kerry looked resistant, saying, "NONONO Zhang, I am a staunch vegetarian, I don’t eat meat, it’s really too unpleasant."
Zhang Yang shook his head, "It’s just that your cooking methods are lacking. Try ours — it’s guaranteed to make your mouth water."
Kerry continued to shake his head and clamped his mouth shut.
Zhang Yang sighed in regret, "Alright, then go sit and wait for me; I shouldn’t have to wait long."
Zhang Yang was a third-year student in the School of Foreign Languages, while Kerry was a newly arrived exchange student from Germany.
Seeing Kerry consume nothing but bread and salad, he wanted to treat his friend to something tasty for a change, and was disappointed he couldn’t persuade him after all that waiting.
Kerry nodded, left the line, and found an empty spot to sit and wait nearby.
With nothing better to do, he began observing the students at the same table.
Yang Wei was happily slurping away, finding the potstickers especially flavorful when eaten while hot.
Despite burning his mouth with blisters in the morning from mishandling the temperature, he still relished the experience.
After a big sip of the flavorful juice, Yang Wei’s face lit up with satisfaction.
Ah, with culinary skills like these, it’s no wonder the female juniors adore Boss Wang. If he were a girl, he’d surely be devoted to following this boss too.
Kerry was deeply puzzled watching Yang Wei eat.
Meat, being both gamey and tough, was essentially inedible. Why was he eating it with such joy?
And not just him; even his first friend in Huaxia was the same. Why were they all so fond of eating meat? What’s wrong with the fresh, clean taste of vegetables?
Yang Wei sensed someone watching him.
Has springtime come?
Looking up in confusion, he saw a blond, blue-eyed European staring intently at him.
Oh my gosh?!
This damned springtime!
He’s heard there are quite a few people in those circles. Could it be he’s interested in him?
Hmm? Maybe he’s not looking at him?
Tracking the man’s line of sight, Yang Wei realized he seemed to be focused on his potstickers, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
In keeping with the tradition of being courteous, Yang Wei winced a little and asked, "Would you like to try one? I can share one with you."
He regretted it immediately after speaking, not because of the money, but because his stingy boss had imposed a max purchase limit of 20 per person, who could that satisfy?
You have an 180cm tall young man here, is 20 enough for anyone?
Wang Fan didn’t initially want to set a limit, but he couldn’t stop people from doing a one-time purchase of an entire pot. And some would even pay double, creating more work and general discontent amongst other students.
So, the purchase limit had to be re-enforced.
Even so, there were still people willing to pay double, leaving Wang Fan utterly flustered.
Kerry had intended to refuse Yang Wei’s offer, but with the aroma of food wafting around him, the words changed as they left his lips, "Oh, thank you, my dear friend."
Damn! How’d he end up agreeing?
Internally shouting, Yang Wei calmly passed a potsticker over to Kerry.
The two other students seated at the table were shocked, both thinking, "Whoa, this guy is something else, willing to give away a limited-supply potsticker!"
Meanwhile, Yang Wei’s heart was bleeding, but outwardly he said, "Be careful when eating, they’re quite hot."
As Kerry reached for the dish, he noticed Yang Wei gripping it tightly and said sincerely, "You’re quite considerate. Worried I’d burn myself, playing games with me, but when it comes to strength, I won’t lose. Hand it over!"
With his imposing size, Kerry effortlessly snatched the dish away, leaving Yang Wei to helplessly watch his potsticker disappear.
"Pfft..."
The other two students at the table nearly lost it, almost spraying their food when Kerry suddenly spoke in unexpectedly fluent Mandarin. Fortunately, they reacted quickly, otherwise, this meal might have been doomed.
