Chapter 847: Chapter 474: My Lord, Please Bestow Holy Light upon Me
Descending from the Heaven Ladder, Anthony wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and hurried back to report, “This Eye of Truth is formidable, I almost got exposed.”
Negris asked in confusion, “Exposed?”
“He possesses some sort of Divine Power that allows him to discern what is true from what is false. However, the use of his power is quite limited; I suspect it is activated through question and answer. If any of my responses were untrue, he might see through me,” Anthony said.
“That’s incredible?” Negris was astonished. “Isn’t that just like a lie detector?”
“Yes, a lie detector. When I was talking to him, my heart was pounding, terrified I might say something wrong,” Anthony said.
Negris was surprised, “How did you manage to fool him, then?”
“How is that fooling him? I told nothing but the truth,” Anthony said with dissatisfaction. “He asked me if I really was the Pope, and I said yes. He asked who I serve, and I said the God of Balance, so he believed me.”
“Pfft—Even the truest eye would be blinded by you,” Negris burst out laughing.
Having gained Cabrela’s trust, Anthony also inquired about the situation with the Undead King.
“The Annihilation Boundary has trapped His Majesty, but His Majesty also locked the soul of the opposing Annihilation Warlock. Now, neither can do anything to the other. Cabrela said they are accumulating energy, preparing to activate the Starburst Array and adjust it to Soul Impact Mode, aiming to bombard His Majesty within the barrier,” Anthony said.
“What? Activate the Starburst Array? When?” Negris was startled.
Ange looked up too; usually, during conversations, he was off in his own world, doing his own things. Previously he would casually plant crops in space, but now that he couldn’t farm, he found other pastimes.
Lately, he’s been practicing arrays, specifically the Starburst Array. There were over two thousand magic imprints in the entire Starburst Array, and he had already combined more than one thousand three hundred of them.
Even Ange, who hardly paid attention to their conversations, looked up.
“I don’t know; Cabrela didn’t answer that question. But judging by his demeanor, it might take a considerable amount of time—possibly months or even years, depending on when the Starburst Array can gather enough energy,” Anthony said.
“That’s not right; the God of Life mentioned just a while ago that the Starburst Array was about to break. If it’s breaking, how can it still be fired?” Negris wondered.
The Starburst Array was an enormous construct. Even if it was damaged, it wouldn’t be immediately apparent, but surely it couldn’t be fired again?
The God of Life appeared from Ange’s shoulder, speaking languidly, “I dunno, the plants told me so.”
It seemed that getting a reliable update on the Starburst Array from the God of Life was out of the question. Everyone would have to prepare for the worst.
Planning for the worst-case scenario was something for Anthony and silver coins to ponder. Ange didn’t have to worry about such matters; he was happy just clearing land and farming.
As long as there was an ample supply of food, nothing else would be too challenging for Anthony and silver coins—food was the only thing they couldn’t conjure from thin air.
Considering the desert climate, Ange chose Axe Potatoes as the main crop. These tubers grew underground, reducing the evaporation of water. The surface looked sparse and barely alive, but when mature and dug up, the soil revealed large clumps.
After planting, Ange paid them no further attention, not bothering to accelerate their growth with the Instant Death Halo, as there were so many barren lands awaiting his cultivation.
If he used the Instant Death Halo, he would be confined to one place, planting and harvesting in a cycle, wasting Divine Power, and overall yield wouldn’t increase much.
The southern part of the desert was filled with inconspicuous Axe Potatoes. In the irrigation zone of the dam and alongside the New River, where water was abundant, rice and wheat were planted instead.
They could handle land clearing and sowing, but managing such large areas when the crops started growing was more than they could handle alone.
Feiwo organized a large number of farmers to enter these areas, settle down, and tend to the crops. Desert Town was rebuilt, and the entire Northern Wind Desert entered a boom of productive construction. Surprisingly, even Northern Wind City now faced a labor shortage.
“This is truly astonishing. Do you know how wide the slave merchants’ eyes got when I sent out the purchase invitation?” Feiwo couldn’t help but feel delighted whenever he mentioned this.
“How wide? Were they this big?” Negris widened his eyes as much as he could, imitating the look of a Giant Dragon.
“Well, not quite,” Feiwo said helplessly. “Lord Nage, stop teasing me. Who could compete with a Giant Dragon when it comes to big eyes?”
“So, not that big,” Negris said with a smug satisfaction, hands on hips. “What did they say?”
“They said: ‘What are you going to do with so many farmers and their families? Is your grain at home going moldy?'” Feiwo said, spreading his hands.
Unless someone had so much food at home it was going moldy, slave traders couldn’t comprehend why anyone would buy such a massive number of elderly, weak women and children, sick and disabled. Taken home, what use could they be other than wasting food?
In their eyes, these people might be less productive than the cost of the food they consume. Normally, a person needs a pound of grain each day; that’s over three hundred and sixty pounds a year, not to mention clothing and shelter costs money.
Yet their labor might not yield several hundred pounds of grain even in a year. If they fall ill, it would be a loss, a dead loss.
To slave traders, this was a cold mathematical equation, and they simply couldn’t understand why Feiwo was willing to take the risk and purchase so many worthless people. Was there an unseen profit they were missing?
