Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl-Chapter 511 - 467: Doing a Good Job of Dying
Chapter 511: Chapter 467: Doing a Good Job of Dying
As the panda ran towards Chen Ying, Mendun’er, who had already run far away, came back and directly collided with the giant panda.
Brother Leopard and Leopard Sister also roared and charged at the opponent.
Even Jinya, Little Jin, and the lynx cub rushed over to help.
The male panda, who had angered everyone, saw black and immediately turned to flee.
It could confront the two-legged beast, since those guys were nearly powerless, and even against Mendun’er it wasn’t afraid.
But why did the two-legged beast have so many bodyguards? This was not logical!
The male panda that left Jiamu Gully early on had been single-mindedly chasing the Cat Mother these past two years, completely unaware that its old home had been robbed clean.
This time, it came back intending to reclaim its territory, and the two-legged beast had to roll out of its domain!
Unfortunately, before it could achieve anything, it almost died.
After running, the male panda stood on its hind legs, roared angrily at Chen Ying, and then turned to run down the other side of the slope.
"Ow, does this guy have something wrong with his head?" Leopard Sister panted with rage, clawing at a piece of bark, "That bastard jerk, if I run into it again, I’ll scratch it to death!"
"Count me in, count me in. This guy dared to roar at my two-legged beast, I want to teach it a lesson too!"
Leopard Sister rolled her eyes unceremoniously, "Go away, this is a high-level battle, what’s a little cat making a fuss for?"
Jinya was unhappy, turned and ran while muttering, "Hmph, then let’s see who succeeds."
Little Jin pressed down on the lynx cub trying to chase after, exchanging a glance with Brother Leopard.
The eyes of the two male cats were filled with helplessness; forget it, they would have to coax their own partners.
Little Jin bit the lynx cub’s ear, instructing it to return to the woodland immediately.
"Go back and tell your Black and White Bear Mother that a male black-and-white bear tried to bite the two-legged beast to death. I, your mother, and your Leopard Aunt and Uncle went to intercept that black-and-white bear."
The lynx cub let out an "ah ooh" and quickly darted towards the rescue station.
Chen Ying could tell Little Jin was up to no good, but he couldn’t hear what Little Jin was saying to the lynx cub.
In the forest, his speed definitely couldn’t match the lynx cub’s. He reached out trying to call the misled little guy, but it was already out of sight in the blink of an eye.
A lynx born on the vast highland grassland wilderness, running this fast in the southwestern forest, does its mother know?
Whether its mother knows or not, Mama Panda certainly found out, and was so angry that she let out a cow-like noise.
Professor Bai, who was drinking tea and reading on the platform, and the two keepers who were studying, heard the sound from Mama Panda and hurriedly turned on the monitor for a look.
On the monitor, Mama Panda left her two cubs and marched angrily towards the door, and behind the panda maternity room, a cat’s head was stuck in the window.
"It’s the lynx cub, what on earth is it doing? It seems to have angered Mama Panda."
The keeper who spoke got up to look towards the maternity room door.
The door was easy to open; Mama Panda could open and close it herself.
Once the door opened, Mama Panda came out with a swagger, glanced around, flared her nostrils, then ooh-ooh-ed at Professor Bai, looked back at the maternity room door, and darted off.
"What’s this about? She couldn’t sit still, wanted to go out for some air?"
"Doesn’t seem like it, I think the little lynx said something to her, Mama Panda seemed really angry."
Professor Bai closed his book, took off his glasses, and glared at the two.
"Instead of chatting here, go follow her and see."
"Oh oh, right away." The two promptly ran outside.
Professor Bai took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, "These two idiots, they don’t realize one should go, while one stays to care for the little ones?"
No choice, he’d have to go himself.
If not for his brisk steps that didn’t match his age, one might really believe his complaints about the assistants.
After disinfecting his hands at the door, Professor Bai slowly entered the maternity room.
Outside, this small area was fine to stay in. Going further wasn’t allowed, Mama Panda had drawn the lines. Whoever dared to cross got growled at, even Chen Ying was no exception.
Under the skylight’s glow, Professor Bai glanced around. The two little ones were sleeping on grass cushions, occasionally twitching, smacking their lips, then rolling over to continue their nap.
As long as they weren’t crying, Professor Bai watched them for a few minutes before stepping out and closing the door.
"You’re back? What happened?"
Upon seeing Chen Ying come out of the equipment room, Professor Bai asked with concern, hands behind his back.
"Nothing much happened, maybe the father of the two little ones came over, got into a fight with the street rat, and now they’ve run off."
After coming down, he looked around, "But it’s just you here, where’s those two young men?"
"Mama Panda just ran out; they followed her in fear something might happen." Professor Bai returned to his spot on the platform, continuing to read. Just after putting on his glasses, he slightly lowered his head and looked over the top of his glasses at Chen Ying.
"Call Xiao Shen, why hasn’t he returned with the materials yet?"
"He just messaged me; he went to the Forestry and Grassland Bureau. They said a scientific expedition team was heading into the mountains and wanted to consult him."
In recent years, various universities had been working hard on research, and this year Jiamu Gully collaborated on a project with the Agricultural University involving the artificial breeding and wild release plan for the Giant Chinese Salamander and Red-crowned Crane, as well as a river fish proliferation project.
In previous years, the rivers here had abundant water and rich fish resources. But later, with more net and electric fishing, and pollution increasing, many rare fish species vanished before their eyes.
The nation had been focusing significant efforts on improving the wild environment, and rebuilding river ecology was a crucial part of the grand plan.
Within half an hour, Xiao Shen returned.
"Teacher Bai, Brother Ying, something big happened."
"What’s the big deal? Someone went missing in the mountains?"
"No, the crocodiles are missing."
Professor Bai and Chen Ying were baffled, "Missing crocodiles? We have crocodiles around here?"
Xiao Shen set down his things, took a big gulp of water, and finally had the strength to explain to them.
"We have a special animal farm here, Brother Ying should know. I heard from someone at the bureau that you even interacted with them a couple of years back about that wild Giant Chinese Salamander."
Chen Ying paused, then nodded, "That’s right, I remember. So, did he get crocodiles?"
"That guy heard somewhere that crocodile skin and meat have significant economic value, so he decided to switch from Giant Chinese Salamanders to crocodiles. Besides the economic use crocodiles, he also introduced two types of pet crocodiles."
Chen Ying looked blankly at Professor Bai, "Isn’t he being a bit too imaginative? Is there such a thing as a crocodile that can be kept as a pet?"
Professor Bai was even more in the dark about how reckless young people could be these days, but he knew that even crocodiles kept as pets were wild animals and extremely dangerous.
"That guy somehow introduced three types of crocodiles: Siamese crocodile, Wide-snouted Caiman, and Fish-eating crocodile. The missing ones are the Caiman and the Fish-eating crocodile."
The Wide-snouted Caiman is a species from South America, with significant size differences between male and female, and this time it happens to be a pair that escaped.
The Siamese crocodile, preferred by breeding farms, is mainly from Thailand, known for being relatively tame.
The Fish-eating crocodile primarily found in neighboring India, is a freshwater crocodile breed.
Given the complexities involved, one wonders how many resources the owner has since he’s playing a risky game by bringing them in.
Although a juvenile Wide-snouted Caiman can be kept as a pet, once it grows up, it’s a different story. It’s like keeping a ticking time bomb.
(Dai Wang, come play!)
"Town already sent out notices advising people to avoid certain areas, but these crocodiles have been missing for days now. On top of that, this guy is insisting that someone let them go and is demanding compensation for his lost property. Without proof, how can he make such claims?"
Xiao Shen was visibly upset as he drank some water before explaining everything.
"You know, we have big mountains, dense forests, and plenty of water. Who can say these creatures won’t survive here?"
With the government putting great effort into improving the wild environment these past two years, revamping the river ecosystem is crucial to the overall plan.
