Freedom Jumper-Chapter 116: Astraea Would Be Ashamed
Chapter 116 - Astraea Would Be Ashamed
"FIRE!"
Elijah was amazed when he saw bright lights emit from long black weapons akin to semi-automatic rifles. Each shot exploded upon impact while sending the beast stuttering backwards. However, with each hole that was revealed, a horrid display of his flesh regenerating at a near instant rate gave the beast an invincible aura.
"It's regenerating!! Find the core and tell me the location!!" Once again, the leader in the back who was holding a massive rifle — heavy enough to only be dragged across the floor or carried by multiple people — was setting a plan of attack up behind the scenes. The man was as strong and buff as could be, and even that wasn't enough to carry the massive rifle.
A small man who had been hiding to the side removed his cloak without holes for his arms. A bright blue color was revealed within the hidden side of the cloak, as well as massive metal gauntlets with a bit of weight to them.
There was not a single shed of communication spoken between them, but only the unrealistic movement of the warrior who literally walked with the wind.
BOOM!
A point blank blast of fire shot out the back of the beast signifying to Elijah the gauntlet had a fire rune. In the very center of its disorganized body was a massive hole that revealed multiple cores circling violently around each other.
"DEAD CENTER!" The warrior screamed while taking a glass cartridge out of the top of his right gauntlet. Unfortunately, even with a large portion of the beast's body being obliterated, it still had the strength to swat the man like a bug.
Exploding on impact, his crushed and beaten body was flung into the storage house the bunch were hiding behind.
"TRESTON!" The leader had begun his move the moment the warrior had said his final words. Calmly standing in the center of attention now, was a long black railgun that had just been loaded through the back with a cylindrical mana battery. With the press of a trigger, fire and white lightning began to course through long black rods of the railgun while concentrating into the center.
The entire world seemed to stop upon this unstoppable machine that charged up in these three seconds.
Both Elijah and Niko's mouths dropped to the floor while a few civilians in the near distance finally had the sense to run away.
ZSHING!
Splitting through the air while breaking the sound barrier was a beam of bright red fire, pulsating from the lightning that had mixed with the essence of fire!
Above all, the peacemaker of all weapons in existence had incinerated everything in its path. Even causing its wielder to be thrown backwards as he lost against the power of his own weapon.
The fifteen foot beast did not even stagger a single inch as the amalgamation of cores that had made up its body were destroyed. Within seconds, the amalgamation of what looked like dead bodies had begun to reduce to a thick viscous black liquid.
"FIND ITS BODY!"
One of the marksmen holding a gun — now alongside a knife — quickly ran to the liquid and began firing it into submission. No effect was made, but only the loss of a limb when a small parasitic bug pounced inside the left leg of the poor soul. Surprisingly, there was not a hint of fear in his head as he cleanly carved off his leg at the knee without a moment of hesitation.
Struck with an immense amount of pain, he was able to excrete a single word. "KILL!!!"
Two marksmen entered as support and began firing shot after shot at the leg. In a moment of distress for the parasitic insect, its body was just barely shown which allowed Brant — a marksman with the aim of god — to blow its body to bits.
This marked a point in history that recorded another new and unknown beast. The idea of parasites was already known to the Kingdom of Gion, but the marksmen that had dealt the final blow had pulled out a journal and began describing the beast to his best ability. This beast was different, using the bodies of the dead to form a body.
"That Elijah, is the power that puts Astraea to shame."
The show of power made him think of Novius. Even to think about if he would have been able to stay in the kingdom to see Novius create magical weapons just like this. Part of Elijah wants to delve into the endless tunnel of magitech and runes.
But...
Right now, there are far too many action items to accomplish, as well as their assimilation.
Finding a home, making money, sedimenting oneself into society, learning about the history of this kingdom, and learning if he had just entered into another illusion — akin to the Kingdom of Astraea.
With the presence of the supernatural, nothing is certain.
"Quick! Follow me." Richter set the next plan in motion, to blend in with society as if nothing happened.
After making their way around the locked storage house, the group of three finally made it to a cobblestone road that was scattered with large trees that covered them from the bright sun. There was no tree in a place that blocked the modernization of this land from the people, which likely meant there used to be many more trees within this area. Not a single person was in sight while walking towards the left of where they had just come from, which gave Elijah time to let his new surroundings sink in.
The architecture was truly made from man – not from magic, but from pure hard work and effort. Richter explained how these buildings were made from a skeleton of wood, then clad in what they call limestone bricks. For an extra layer of artistry, wooden beams were slatted vertically and horizontally. This gave these houses that were beginning to line up down the cobblestone road a medieval feel with a touch of tropicalism. The tropicalism was done from the organic details of flowers, vines, and the white walls on the inside that Elijah could make out through the sectioned glass windows.
"These people... They work harder than anyone I have seen in Astraea. I guess we had it easy relying on the elements... And if you haven't noticed already, they speak the same language as us."
"Where do you live Richter?" Niko responded to Richter's statement with a question.
"It is about a twenty minute walk from here, on the edge of the hunting district. But... First we need to get you both some clothes. I can guarantee you both will get unnecessary attention. Your clothes are obviously too big for you..."
"Makes sense, but can we also get some food? The only meal we have had in the past two days was an overcooked wolf that we didn't even finish." Niko asked while staring at Elijah who had an observant face on.
"Sure, but you will have to pay me back by the end of the fortnight." Richter continued to explain the Kingdom's time system. Every year is separated into 91 days, which are called quarters. Within these quarters are 9 fortnights, which consist of ten days. The single day that is left is designated by the kingdom as a "day of freedom". No one is allowed to work besides The Protectors, which are the Kingdom's line of defense that guards every point of entry and even the more "special" places within the kingdom. Currently speaking, the time is the fourth day of the fifth fortnight – within the first quarter. The snowy season has just finished while the spring to the next season is preparing.
Finally, Elijah cut into the conversation. "How do you suppose we make money?"

"Beasts of course! After what I saw from you Elijah, I'm sure you will have no problem with making money. And please, don't think of me as your benefactor. My flat only houses one person and intends to graciously house you until you find your own way. However, I do suggest you look into the different academies. If you get into one, you will be provided with on-campus housing."
"And personally, I think you guys could pass yourself off as thirteen year old's, which is the starting age of the special academies. I don't know too much about this kingdom yet, but what I do know is that everyone within Astraea looks much older than they are here." Richter followed up with Elijah and Niko's curiosity by explaining how they will get their own identities. However, when the name "Banum" came up, Elijah flinched as if shocked by a small strike of lightning.
Memories of Amaris' death created a gruesome headache and within seconds, a tear that he did not wish for came down his right cheek – hidden to Richter and Niko to his left...
