Freedom Jumper-Chapter 121: Academy Plans
Chapter 121 - Academy Plans
Gradually, the already magnificent improvement of architecture improved even more so when Elijah and Niko had entered the area of the Orneas Pantheon.
Orneas, The Everchanging God, or The God of Liquid, was a deity of whom the people worshiped in the Kingdom of Gion. Apparently, only one of two gods the people worshipped. Of course, Orneas was dead, gone with the water from the aftermath of the War of Gods.
Next to the Orneas Pantheon — a tall building with romantic and high fantasy features ranging from curved wood and stone engravings, to blue stained glass and water like ornaments that gave the building a life of its own — was the proud Adventure Guild.
There was a lot of space separating the Pantheon and Adventure Guild, but beyond the Pantheon was a tall spout of water that Elijah and Niko had both recognized based on their memory of the map. The Spout of Orneas would have to be something they check out at a different time.
Thinking back to the past, Elijah remembers someone telling him and Niko about how you would "feel" the drops of water on your skin and face. To attest to whoever told him that, it was damn true!
Walking into the guild building felt familiar to the hunter guild building in so many ways. However, the layout and design were completely different. While the hunter guild was simplistic with wood and stone elements. The Adventure guild used an array of resources like the timber from a tree, limestone, stone, and processed wood to create a homey and organic feel.
Immediately, they were both greeted by a young woman, no older than 18. Her shoulders were revealed with a green shirt and off-white skirt likely due to the changing seasons. The long black hair made her hazel eyes pop.
"Good day young ones, may I know the reason for your visit?" She kindly asked with her hand behind her back.
"Hello, we want to sign up to be an adventurer!" Elijah said with an excited tone.
"Ah. You can't just sign up, but you can take a combat test. Will you be focusing more on resource protection missions, beast hunting, or exploration?"
"Beast hunting." Niko said.
"Okay, well I just need to see your emblem to write down your name and I can set you up with a knight for tomorrow!"
This revelation bugged and made both Elijah and Niko a little nervous.
"We don't have our emblems with us, but will have them tonight. Can you write down our names and we will bring them tomorrow morning?" Elijah confidently asked.
"Oh, not a problem at all. I will schedule your exam for 2 hours after dawn. I suggest you get here earlier than that to prepare, and make sure to bring your emblem or else we can't examine you!" Thankfully, she was understanding while making Elijah and Niko realize it is a problem likely to occur every now and then. That didn't mean she had to use that smoldering tone.
After walking out of the building, All Elijah could think was what they could do with their day now. It wasn't even past midday, and they had made 600 Genny — minus the 30 Genny for food.
This did beg a question in Elijah's mind. How did taxes function?
"Niko, are you up for some time in the air? Or do you want to go kill some more beasts?"
"My mana is almost full again, which feels weird for it to replenish this slowly even when I'm not focusing on it. I'd rather hunt some more beasts. After all, we have no idea if 570 Genny is a lot or not..."
Elijah nodded in agreement. Today was their first full day in Tavenas, and very soon they would likely be joining an Academy.
Infact, the whole academy situation was discussed along the walk while asking random strangers who seemed knowledgeable, questions about as many specifics of the different academies as possible. Of course, for these random questions, they had a cover story — coming from Sontaid.
While they had no idea what the situation with Sontiad was after hearing it first from Banum, it seemed to work magnificently!
Most of the academies are in Sefrah, at least the specialized ones that children funnel into at the age of thirteen. Although, each city has their own full-scale academy dedicated to each age group. The Sefrah Academy is the most prestigious with the most support from the government while also having different sectors related to Magical Engineering, Agriculture, Architecture, Government, and best of all...
Combat!
There are smaller Academies tailored to one specific career spread throughout the Kingdom, but with limited amounts of support and lower entries. Every child dreamt of entering the Sefrah Academy to build themselves a bright future. However, acceptance is based on the talent of the individual, with a few counts of obvious noble scandals.
The Tavenas Academy of Adventuring is one such Academy designed to solely focus on up and coming adventurers, whether that be strategy against beasts, leadership, world exploration, working with the guild, and true beast combat. After all, Tavenas is the heart and sole of the idea of Adventuring, considering it rides the border of the unclaimed beast lands.
All of this was in the future, and it is obvious that both Elijah and Niko need to solve their money situation as it is the only way to truly become a citizen of Gion — even after attaining an identification emblem.

Slowly, while digesting their food that satiated them just perfectly, they walked all the way to the other side of Tavenas — as they are coming from the central region of Tavenas.
All the way to the wall, they were both complaining from lack of hydration and stopped along the way to fill up their spatial rings with fresh water as the attendant had described it.
While standing next to the wall in a secluded area, Elijah and Niko cautiously fly over the wall without being spotted. Instantly, once touching the grassy floor, they ran at a steady speed towards the river.
Contrary to their earlier experience, the jungle was occasionally erupting with sounds of explosions signifying there being adventurers nearby.
Elijah, being practically full of mana, took Niko and flew through the upper regions of the towering and crossed trees. Infact, farther up the river than they had once been was a large section of trees that had created yet another tipi. This created a perfect amount of cover within the thick branches underneath for them to stay hidden and observe the river at the same time.
Twice, a large group struggled while crossing the river except for the adventurers who had a unique piece of magitech equipment — likely stemming from air magic — that allowed them to step on the air with boosts in their speed. This was a piece of equipment both Niko and Elijah were now vying for. With it being common, he hoped the price was decent.
If Novius was with him, he could probably figure out how to make it himself...
Finally, their opportunity came. Only this time, it had resulted in a different kind of beast giving light to themselves, as well as in a much larger quantity.
Strikingly shiny green bodies adjourned with razor sharp talons were praying mantis' ten times their usual size! Green bodies of slightly different shades and sizes were making their way quickly through the forest as if running from something even more terrifying than their own kin!
