Chapter 385: Yes You

The studio fell completely silent the moment Davido finished speaking.

"For this song... you go direct the video."

For a few seconds nobody moved.

The words simply stayed in the air while everyone slowly turned their heads toward the same person.

Shina.

He was still standing near the side wall with the camera in his hands, but the lens had dropped slightly toward the floor because his brain had stopped processing anything around him. His eyes moved from Davido to Dayo and then back to Davido again as if he was trying to confirm that what he just heard was real.

He blinked twice.

"Sir... you mean me?"

Davido nodded without hesitation.

"Yes. You."

The camera in Shina’s hand slipped slightly and he nearly dropped it before catching it again quickly with both hands. Several people around the room burst into laughter at the reaction, but Shina was not laughing. His chest felt tight and his thoughts were racing in ten different directions at the same time.

"Sir I just dey shoot small videos," he said quickly, still clearly overwhelmed. "I never direct anything like that before."

Davido leaned casually against the table beside him and folded his arms with a relaxed confidence that made it clear he had already made his decision.

"I don see your work," he said. "You sabi."

Shina shook his head slowly, still struggling to accept what was happening.

"But this one be music video o... not small vlog."

Davido lifted one hand and pointed across the room toward Dayo.

"And if JD trust you... I trust you."

The sentence landed with weight inside the studio. A few of the producers nodded slowly because they understood exactly what that meant. Dayo’s name carried serious influence in the industry, and if he believed someone had talent then people paid attention.

Shina turned his head toward Dayo.

His voice became softer.

"Boss... this one too big."

Dayo was leaning against the side of the mixing console watching the entire exchange quietly. He gave Shina a small smile that carried both encouragement and calm confidence.

"You followed me from the beginning," he said. "Time to grow. OBO is giving you a platform, use it well. I would be with you every step, don’t worry."

The words hit Shina harder than anything else that had been said in the last few minutes. He remembered standing behind Dayo during small shoots, recording practice sessions, traveling with him during early performances, and doing whatever he could to help capture moments. None of those moments had prepared him for something like this.

Davido clapped his hands together once and straightened up.

"Alright."

His voice shifted into work mode immediately.

"If we dey do video... we go do am properly."

The energy inside the room changed as people instinctively leaned closer toward the center of the studio where the conversation was happening.

Davido looked directly at Shina.

"Director."

Shina froze again when he heard the word.

Davido laughed lightly.

"Yes you. Director now."

A few people chuckled but this time Shina managed to smile nervously.

Davido continued.

"So tell me... wetin you get for mind?"

Shina blinked again.

"For mind?"

"For the video," Davido said patiently.

Shina scratched the back of his head while trying to organize his thoughts.

"Well... maybe we fit start with Lagos street scenes," he said slowly. "Like wide shots of the city early evening. Traffic lights, night movement, that kind vibe."

One of the producers nodded slightly.

"That one go set the tone."

Shina became a little more confident as he continued explaining.

"Then performance scenes inside club setting. Dark lighting but with strong color lights moving across the stage."

Davido tilted his head slightly.

"Hmm."

Shina kept talking.

"We can mix luxury visuals too. Maybe rooftop shots or car scenes moving through the city."

Another producer spoke up.

"And dancers."

Shina nodded.

"Yes dancers. But not too many. Just enough to keep the energy moving."

People around the room were now listening seriously instead of laughing. The nervous cameraman they had seen earlier was slowly turning into someone who clearly understood visual storytelling.

Davido smiled slightly.

"Not bad."

Shina took a breath and added another idea.

"We can also show some Nigerian cultural elements. Maybe street market shots or night vendors."

One of the engineers pointed toward him.

"That one go give the video identity."

Davido looked around the room and then back at Shina.

"See?"

He tapped the table lightly.

"I talk say you sabi."

While the conversation continued Dayo remained quiet, simply watching the interaction unfold. He had introduced Shina into his team because he believed the young man had potential, and now he was watching that potential begin to reveal itself under real pressure.

Sharon stood beside him with his arms folded, observing the situation with the same calm expression.

After a few more minutes of discussion Davido suddenly remembered something and snapped his fingers.

"Wait."

Everyone paused.

He looked toward Dayo.

"Bossman... we never even record the song."

A few people laughed quietly because the excitement of the music video conversation had made everyone forget the obvious.

Dayo nodded.

"That’s true."

Davido leaned forward slightly.

"So how we go run am?"

Dayo thought for a moment before answering.

"We can start recording today or tomorrow and finish everything within the week."

Davido nodded immediately.

"That one make sense."

Then Dayo asked another question.

"How far your album reach?"

Davido exhaled slowly and leaned against the desk.

"Most of the songs done already," he explained. "Maybe two or three still dey final stage."

One of the producers sitting nearby joined the conversation.

"That’s true," he said. "We just dey polish some of the mixes."

Dayo nodded.

"Good. Then adding this one won’t delay anything."

The producer who had been speaking earlier leaned forward slightly and looked at Dayo with a thoughtful expression.

"I won’t lie," he said. "Today shock me."

Dayo raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

The producer shrugged lightly.

"I always see your name for production credits."

He glanced toward Wayne.

"Sometimes with Wayne too."

Dayo nodded.

"So?"

The producer laughed softly.

"I always think maybe you just dey give small input."

Several people in the room nodded because they had assumed the same thing.

"But after seeing the way you adjust that beat earlier..." the producer continued, shaking his head. "It clear say you be full producer."

Another engineer added his voice.

"Working with you today honor me."

Dayo waved the praise away casually.

"It’s just work."

The conversation continued for a few more minutes while they discussed recording plans and potential arrangements for the song.

Then the studio door opened.

A young girl stepped inside.

"Daddy!"

Davido’s face lit up immediately when he saw her.

"Ah! My baby!"

She ran across the room and jumped into his arms while he lifted her easily.

"When you reach?" he asked.

"Just now," she replied happily.

She looked around the studio politely greeting a few people she recognized.

Then her eyes suddenly stopped on one person. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Dayo.

Her expression changed instantly.

"Oh my God."

She grabbed her father’s arm tightly.

"Daddy!"

Davido followed her gaze.

"What?"

"That’s JD!"

The room filled with laughter as her excitement exploded instantly.

She looked both shocked and thrilled at the same time.

"I know you!" she said to Dayo quickly. "I listen to your music all the time in the U.S."

Dayo smiled politely.

"That’s nice to hear."

She covered her mouth slightly in disbelief.

"I didn’t know you were here."

Davido laughed loudly.

"See your superstar."

She looked back at her father.

"Daddy you didn’t tell me!"

Davido shrugged with a grin.

"I just see am myself."

She finally calmed down a little and greeted Dayo properly while the rest of the room enjoyed the unexpected fan moment.

After a few more minutes the conversation inside the studio slowly returned to normal as people began wrapping up the session.

Dayo glanced toward Sharon and the others.

"We should get going."

Wayne nodded.

Sharon picked up her bag while Shina adjusted the camera strap around his shoulder, still looking like someone who had just experienced the most surreal moment of his life.

As they walked toward the door Davido followed them.

He stopped in front of Dayo.

His expression was serious now.

"Bro," he said. "What you do today... I no go forget."

Dayo nodded calmly.

"It’s nothing."

Davido shook his head.

"It big. No talk say na nothing. Not everyone would do what you did for free. Hell, I am even scared you would ask for something big in the future, haha."

Dayo just laughed with him.

"But seriously bro, I really appreciate what you’re doing for me."

Then he placed a hand on Dayo’s shoulder.

"If you ever need anything... just call me."

Dayo gave a small nod.

"I will."

The two men exchanged one last handshake before Dayo and his team walked out of the studio.

Behind them Shina stepped outside still holding the camera, his mind replaying everything that had just happened inside that room.

A few hours earlier he had walked into the studio as a cameraman.

Now he was walking out as the director of Davido’s next music video.

And he still wasn’t completely sure if he was dreaming.
