Chapter 228: Chapter 219: Pretty Good Luck

Because of the energy crisis, power was rationed even in the hospital. After the doctors’ rounds ended at 10 PM, each floor was left with only a few emergency lights.

The night grew heavy, and the entire quarantine hospital fell silent.

At twelve-thirty in the morning, Lu Xiao’s eyes snapped open. He had been resting in bed, but now he was staring at a dark figure leaning by the door, his body instantly tensing.

"Who’s there?" he asked in a low voice, his hand under the covers already secretly gathering his superpower, poised to strike.

If the intruder made a single hostile move, the sphere of water he was gathering would instantly envelop their face, suffocating them.

"Awake?" The visitor didn’t move from his spot by the door. He seemed to chuckle, but his voice was slightly distorted. "Not bad. You’re quite alert."

He said, his lips curling slightly, making it unclear whether it was praise or mockery.

Lu Xiao grew even more wary. Security at the quarantine hospital was extremely tight. In this building alone, he could sense at least five high-level superpowered individuals. ’How did this person appear in my room without anyone knowing?’

"Who are you?" he demanded, staring at the visitor. "What do you want?"

The visitor scoffed and walked to Lu Xiao’s bedside, looking down at him. "You’re very smart." ’Instead of screaming when a stranger shows up in his room at midnight, he instinctively lowers his voice to feel me out. No wonder that person chose him.’

"I imagine you know why I’m here." From out of nowhere, he produced a small, sealed, test-tube-like container and dangled it before Lu Xiao’s eyes. "Someone asked me to give this to you."

By the dim moonlight filtering through the window, Lu Xiao narrowed his eyes, staring at the half-full vial of black liquid. "What is this?" he asked hesitantly.

"You don’t know?" The visitor raised an eyebrow, surprised.

Lu Xiao fell silent.

He had clearly thought of something.

The visitor gave a soft scoff. He wasn’t in any hurry. He just leaned lazily against the wall, nonchalantly playing with the vial in his hand, patiently waiting for Lu Xiao to make a decision. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

He knew Lu Xiao would not refuse.

Or rather, no one in this situation could refuse that person’s proposal.

And sure enough.

After a long moment, Lu Xiao stared at the object in the man’s hand and asked, "Can this... really let me stand on my feet again?"

"Who knows?" The visitor offered no guarantees, just gave his empty lower body a casual glance and said nonchalantly, "But you’re already like this. What’s the harm in trying?"

Lu Xiao was clearly swayed.

’He’s right. I’m already like this. What’s the harm in trying?’

’It can’t possibly get any worse than this, can it?’

"Did she send you?" Lu Xiao asked, thinking of the mysterious note that had suddenly appeared in his hand.

The man glanced at him and said softly, "You’re very lucky." ’To have been chosen by that person...’

Lu Xiao, missing his legs, thought, ’This is good luck? You can have it.’

But he didn’t know where this man came from, and given the object in his hand, Lu Xiao held back, his expression turning ugly.

The man, however, suddenly tossed the vial to him.

Lu Xiao caught it on instinct and looked up.

The man asked with a wide smile, "Know how to use it?"

Lu Xiao clutched the vial. After hesitating for a few seconds, he asked, "How do I use it?"

The man lifted his hand and drew a line across his lower abdomen. Looking at the vial in Lu Xiao’s hand, he said, "Just bury that thing directly in the wound."

He paused, then added, "Though I hear it’s a little painful."

With that, he stood up, dusted off his hands, and walked to the door. "I’ll be back for you in half a month."

’If you’re still alive by then, that is.’

Soon, the visitor’s figure disappeared from outside the room, not alerting a single guard in the building.

Lu Xiao stared in the direction of the door, lost in thought for a long moment. Then, a Water Blade slowly formed in his hand...

「Five minutes later.」

"AAAAAH!"

In the dead of night, a sudden, horrifying scream jolted the entire building awake.

"What’s going on?" Liu, in the duty office, was given a shove. He blearily opened his eyes and was dragged by a colleague into a patient’s room before he was even fully awake.

Inside the room, a man was writhing in agony on the floor. Streaks of bright red, tentacle-like flesh were struggling to push their way out of his previously empty lower body.

They were densely packed, like innumerable slender earthworms writhing together in a tangled mass, a horrifying and spine-chilling sight.

"Wha—?!" The sight instantly sobered Liu up. He jumped to his feet, covering his mouth to stifle a gasp, and asked the person next to him in a hushed, horrified tone, "Is he...?"

But no one answered him.

The previously empty room was now filled with medical personnel, all of them surrounding Lu Xiao, utterly stunned by his appearance.

But no one dared to step forward.

At this point, Lu Xiao was delirious. All he could feel was every bit of his flesh and bone being ground to pulp, then stretched and remade...

The process was excruciating.

If it were only pain, he could have endured it.

But on top of the pain, there was an itch—an absolutely maddening one.

He could only scratch desperately, but he only had two hands, and his entire body was tormented by the itch.

Lu Xiao couldn’t stand it any longer. He instinctively condensed one Water Blade after another, slicing into his own body again and again.

It was as if only this could suppress the itch that seemed to be seeping from the very marrow of his bones.

This frantic act of self-mutilation scared everyone in the room into taking a collective step back, gasping in horror.

But at this point, Lu Xiao was beyond caring.

His jaw was clenched tight, his body covered in blood, yet more Water Blades condensed around him. The sharp blades sliced into his flesh, splattering blood until the entire floor was submerged.

When Zhan Yue finally rushed over, all he saw was a humanoid creature of mangled flesh and blood.

Not a single patch of skin on Lu Xiao’s body was left intact. Heaving for breath, he tried to mold the twisted tendrils of flesh into the shape of legs, struggling to support his blood-drenched upper torso.

Zhan Yue gasped in shock at the sight of him, but he quickly composed himself.

He stared at Lu Xiao’s newly grown "legs," and a sharp glint flashed in his eyes.

Soon, the entire building was sealed off and quarantined. The medical staff were herded to the conference room on the top floor.

The few injured members of the Guard Team who had been staying in the building were also hastily carried away.

However, the ones who took them were a group of people in hazmat suits. Not far away, their own former colleagues were now fully armed, aiming their Superpower Guns directly at them.

The injured men knew something was wrong.

One of them instinctively gathered his superpower to resist, but for some reason, they all quickly fell unconscious.

Meanwhile, back in Lu Xiao’s room, a large amount of anesthetic agent was being sprayed.

Soon, Lu Xiao collapsed to the floor, hovering between life and death.

The personnel from the base breathed a sigh of relief. Just as they were about to haul the body away, a military helicopter began circling over the hospital...

The situation became instantly taut, a conflict ready to erupt at the slightest touch.
