From Beast Abilities to Sect Grand Master-Chapter 302 : Captain Lu Ding
Lin Fan went over to the Sword Peak and requested Ho Ming to join him.
Which Ho Ming had happily obliged.
With the Thief's Gauntlet, he would have another trick up his sleeve if Ho Ming was around.
"Lin Fan, you seem different now." Ho Ming sensed something wasn't the same with Lin Fan, but he couldn't pinpoint it.
"Oh, nothing much. I'm now at Nascent Soul Level." Lin Fan said.
"What?" Ho Ming knew it would come sooner than later, but it still surprised him that it was so soon.
He had better buck up and catch up to Lin Fan. Ho Ming thought to himself.
"This time, my master Zhang Yi Nian, will be following us though."
Lin Fan said and hoped Ho Ming wouldn't mind.
But Ho Ming didn't disappoint and just nodded.
"Great, pack up and we shall set off as soon as possible."
Lin Fan also replenished the essentials in his storage artifacts before the mission.
Guo He Ru was as reliable as usual with his new batch of Heavenly Rejuvenate Pills.
…
When the day came and they set off, Lin Fan was with his face mask artifact again.
He didn't want to get into trouble with Jian Xin and the Sword Saint if he met them in the northern borders.
He had lied to Jian Xin that Lin Fan was at the northern borders earlier.
Being cautious, Lin Fan wanted to make sure that the case of him being found out by Jian Xin wouldn't happen.
He was confident that he could handle Jian Xin, but what if the Sword Saint was around.
"You worry too much. I can take care of the Sword Saint for you." Zhang Yi Nian shook his head at Lin Fan's cautiousness.
He raised his fist and said, "Maybe you haven't witnessed my greatness, but I assure you, no one can easily beat me. Not even senior martial uncle."
Lin Fan nodded and kept it in mind.
He didn't mind help, but not at the expense of failing his mission.
The Sword Saint was an unknown risk, and he didn't want to jeopardize the mission of getting Lu Ding promoted to General.
They travelled on horseback and reached the northern borders a few days later.
Along the way they saw those who had lost their homes coming down south.
Trying to seek a new life in the southern regions.
Every one of them looked lifeless, without any sparks in their eyes.
Most didn't have much on them except some clothing.
Days of hunger had made them thin and frail.
Reminding Lin Fan of how he was when he just came here.
…
"Stop!" The guards at the camp site stopped Lin Fan, Ho Ming and Zhang Yi Nian when they approached.
Lin Fan took out the letter from Governor Lu and passed it to the guards.
The leader of the guard read it and sent one of the guards into the camp site.
Moments later, the guard came back and whispered into the ears of the leader.
The leader nodded and he walked over to Lin Fan.
"Captain Lu Ding shall see you now. Welcome to the Raging Tiger Army." He then waved for the guards to come and lead them to Lu Ding.
Captain? The last time Lin Fan saw Lu Ding, he was only leading a small team.
It seems like Lu Ding had been doing well in the Raging Tiger Army.
Lu Ding was in his tent looking at a map when Lin Fan and the others entered.
"Captain Lu Ding, long time no see." Lin Fan called out to him.
Lu Ding turned back but he frowned as he couldn't recognize the man in front of him.
Lin Fan with his face mask looked like a scholar with a pale white face.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, I would have to be in disguise to help you clinch the General's role."
Lin Fan explained why he was looking different.
"Ah. Let me get my man to bring you something to eat." Lu Ding clapped his hands, and a soldier came running into the tent.
"Prepare a sumptuous meal for my guests." Lu Ding gave his orders, and the soldier went away immediately.
Lin Fan was impressed as the soldiers he had seen along the way were all well-disciplined.
They sat down and Lu Ding started to brief them on the situation.
The Hulu Tribe's Khan, Hulu Bei Er, had gathered all his forces and was amassed in the Forever Plains.

Anyone who could lead their forces to kill the khan shall be awarded the position of General.
There were three contenders, Lu Ding, Hai Tao and Ye Sheng.
Lu Ding, with his forces of only five thousand soldiers, was the weakest amongst the contenders.
Hai Tao and Ye Sheng had soldiers at ten thousand strong each.
They were also able to seek assistance from cultivators with their rich family background.
Hai Tao came from a merchant family while Ye Sheng was the brother of the Emperor's youngest concubine.
The officials in the imperial court had made their bet and supported who they thought would be the next General.
None had Lu Ding as their candidate.
Lin Fan looked at the map where the enemy troops were marked.
Lu Ding's forces were allocated to go head on with the Hulu Tribe's elite soldiers, the Beast Forge Battalion at ten thousand strong.
He looked at Lu Ding and didn't see any fear or anxiety in Lu Ding's eyes.
"You aren't afraid of being wiped out by the enemy? What if I didn't come?" Lin Fan asked.
Lu Ding looked at Lin Fan and gave him a smile.
"Fear? I had them.
"But I know if I fail, the folks behind us would suffer fate that would be worse.
"The children and the women…I can only do my best.
"My soldiers know it too and not one of them ever complained or tried to run away from this.
"Someone has to do the inevitable.
"And even if I go out, I would sure as hell take some of them down with me."
Lin Fan shook his head and sighed.
Lu Ding had kept his idealistic outlook.
However, he wasn't sure if it was good or bad.
