Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Who Else Could Do It

"Lord Scorching Wings, are you feigning ignorance, or do you truly not know?"

Westheid whispered, "How long has it been since we last received a decree from the Divine Ancestor?"

!!

Upon hearing this, Scorching Wings’s cold, crimson eyes flew wide open. His Dragon Might erupted uncontrollably for an instant, sending Westheid stumbling back several steps.

The Legendary Dragon Species glanced at Westheid, then fixed his gaze on Reiya.

"You told the servants about this as well?"

They had lost contact with the Divine Ancestor a long time ago. The Legendary Dragon Species of Dragon’s Will Peak had concealed this news; even Scorching Wings himself had only learned of it recently.

"There’s nothing to hide anymore. You should have received the orders from Dragon’s Will Peak, have you not?"

Reiya recited the lines Westheid had taught her:

"Initiate the blood sacrifice ritual within your own territory, welcome Her Highness Reiya, the Dragon of the Divine Ancestor’s True Blood, take full responsibility for war preparations against the Celestial Vault Kingdom, and Scorching Wings is to rush to Dragon’s Will Peak as reinforcements."

Scorching Wings stared at Reiya and said slowly, "Only the first part. The directive said nothing about you, nor did it contain any order for me to return as reinforcements." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"Is that so?"

Reiya put on a fittingly perplexed expression, then nodded and said:

"Perhaps it was interfered with during transmission. Even Dragon’s Will Peak is no longer safe. The battle between the Divine Ancestor and the Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven has severely damaged communications everywhere. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had to come to the Kepal Plain personally, only to be ambushed by spies from the Celestial Vault Kingdom along the way."

"Wait, what?!"

As if he had just heard Reiya say something incredible, Scorching Wings quickly pressed her.

"The Divine Ancestor and the Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven? Even if there is a war with the Celestial Vault Kingdom, shouldn’t it be a conflict in the Mortal World?"

"Why are you so naive? Would a mere conflict cause the Divine Ancestor to ignore the prayers of the True Dragons?"

Reiya raised an eyebrow, questioning him in a peculiar tone.

"So... it’s... it’s a God War?"

Scorching Wings’s breath seemed to catch. Even for a Legendary Dragon Species, his voice trembled as he uttered the two words.

In the Mortal World, a Legendary Dragon Species was already a Powerhouse capable of dominating all living beings, able to burn mountains, boil seas, pluck stars, and grasp the moon. But even such a Powerhouse, standing at the apex of the Mortal World, was nothing more than an ant before a Celestial God.

If it were just a war against the Celestial Vault Kingdom, Scorching Wings was confident he could defeat them, whether they came with their swarms of warships and winged aircraft or their Azure Sky Mechas that soared through the heavens and delved into the earth. At the very least, he had the power to contend with them. But if a God War was involved, even a Legendary Powerhouse was little more than a high-grade consumable.

When the strife was between Celestial Gods, all matters of the Mortal World seemed insignificant.

The toppling of civilizations and the fall of nations were merely aftershocks of a God War.

Reiya nodded and affirmed, "It is a God War."

"This... This... I still find it hard to believe. If there really were a God War, I should have known!"

Scorching Wings was supposed to be the one asking the questions, but under the successive bombshells dropped by Reiya and Westheid, the Legendary Dragon Species was left stammering, clutching his head, unable to form a coherent sentence.

Westheid cried out in distress, "Lord Scorching Wings, there is no more time to delay! This is the most critical moment for preparation!"

Reiya also extended her hand, her expression grave.

"If you still harbor any doubts, then probe the Divine Power within my body. You must also be wondering why someone of the Divine Ancestor’s noble True Blood has fallen to such a state, weaker than even a newborn dragon whelp. It is because I was wounded by the Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven in that God War."

Yolanda watched the man and woman beside her playing their parts in perfect concert, acting as if it were all real. She could only do her best to suppress the urge to interject and stared silently at the ground.

"A wound inflicted by a Celestial God?"

Scorching Wings looked at Reiya. He could indeed sense that she was pathetically weak. If not for the clear and unmistakable nobility of her Dragon God bloodline, which could never be faked, he couldn’t imagine a noble True Dragon being so feeble.

Hearing the Silver-haired Dragon Lady’s words, the Legendary Dragon Species scrutinized Reiya again. Her legs were obviously prosthetic, and as for what was inside her body...

Scorching Wings hesitated for a moment, then slowly took Reiya’s outstretched hand, attempting to probe for the Divine Power she spoke of within her body.

NGHH!!!

The Legendary Dragon Species had only just begun his probe when he discovered that Reiya’s physical condition was even worse than he had seen.

Her internal organs, her limbs, her very bones—almost no part of her was intact. A Divine Power completely foreign to Scorching Wings was tearing apart all of her tissues. The sight was simply horrifying.

Just as Scorching Wings was wondering how Reiya was even still alive, the Supreme Radiance Divine Power, sensing an intruder, instinctively responded.

HISSS—

Scorching Wings suffered a violent backlash and instantly pulled his left hand away. Golden flames spread up his arm, fiercely searing the Legendary Dragon Species’s body.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Scorching Wings’s eyes hardened. He ripped off half of his own torso, letting the severed part fall to the ground to be consumed by the golden flames.

’It really is Divine Power...’

The soul-searing pain still lingered. Scorching Wings frowned, rapidly regenerating his injuries while staring blankly at Reiya, seemingly astonished at how the Silver-haired Dragon Lady could endure such agony.

Westheid shouted, "Besides the Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven! Has there ever been another Celestial God who dared to oppose Star Abyss Wings? To leave such a terrifying wound within the body of the Divine Ancestor’s True Blood!"

"Who else could do it!?"

’Absolutely no one! No one at all!’

Scorching Wings remained silent, but his crimson eyes, their pupils quaking, revealed his thoughts.

Although in later eras, both the Yonglan Riding God and the Radiant Holy Tree would possess the might of top-tier Celestial Gods, here in the ancient Age of Dragon Calamity... these two Celestial Gods had not yet been born.

In the minds of the people of the Mortal World, the only one who could be compared to Star Abyss Wings was the Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven.

Scorching Wings’s doubts about Reiya’s words vanished completely. A True Dragon’s bloodline, secret intelligence, and the equipment of the Celestial Vault People could all be faked. But the great power of a Celestial God was the most real thing in this world—irrefutable proof that could never be forged!

As the oldest extant Celestial God, records regarding the Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven were exceedingly rare. It was absolutely impossible for Scorching Wings to know what this Celestial God’s Divine Energy was like, so using the Divine Power of the Radiant Holy Tree to impersonate it posed little problem.

"...I understand. Are we to go to war with the Celestial Vault Kingdom? How should I coordinate with you?"

Scorching Wings no longer had any doubts. Even though Reiya’s arrival and appearance were indeed abrupt and full of suspicious points, the proof was as solid as a mountain. In the face of a series of undeniable facts, continuing to disobey orders would be unjustifiable.

Besides, in the face of a God War, even a Legendary Dragon Species felt just as small and fragile as any ordinary member of the Dragon Race.

Even if he might normally entertain thoughts of disobedience, he knew what was truly important when faced with a tempestuous storm.
