Game World: I Can Share Talents-Chapter 73: Ascending Dragon into a Cone of Fire
After executing a flawless, textbook-perfect Ascending Dragon, Westheid, to be honest, was on an absolute high.
Putting aside the damage it dealt, the feeling of pulling off such a technical combo was second only to the thrill of a one-shot kill.
However, as soon as the Ascending Dragon was complete, Westheid immediately leaped away, distancing himself from the Black Dragon.
Even with half its brain mangled, a Giant Dragon’s tremendous Life Force would prevent it from dying instantly. It would merely lose its sanity in the extreme pain and devolve into a frenzied beast.
In this state, however, it posed no real threat. Its health had already dropped into execution range.
"Reiya!"
Westheid shouted. The silver-haired girl, who was on the other side of the battlefield wielding Dragon Thunder to disintegrate a Giant Dragon, responded at once.
Without even a moment to rest, after disintegrating most of the falling Giant Dragon, Reiya retracted her Dragon Thunder. She stomped a foot on the ground, sending out spiderweb-like shockwaves. In the span of a breath, the Silver-haired Dragon Lady, holding her Thunder Sword Spear, crossed the distance and slammed heavily into the side of the Black Dragon’s head.
BOOM—
An earth-shaking tremor emanated from the Black Dragon’s head, creating visible ripples in the air. The Sword Spear, wreathed in Dragon Thunder, smashed straight through.
This time, there wasn’t even a cry of agony. The Black Dragon, having just entered its frenzy, lay on its side as its massive body was torn apart and rapidly disintegrated by the lightning, which burned like both light and fire.
This disintegrated flesh and blood was absorbed entirely by Reiya. Steam immediately began to rise from the silver-haired girl’s body. The utterly brutal consumption of the [Dragon Soul Furnace] should have caused immediate indigestion, but the adaptability granted by her [Withered Glory Sun] allowed her to endure the discomfort.
Pulling back her Sword Spear, only cold killing intent flickered in the Silver-haired Dragon Lady’s piercingly beautiful eyes.
"Next."
As the primary beneficiary of the blood-rite ritual and the wielder of the Dragon Thunder’s authority, Reiya was already a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. With support from Westheid and Yolanda, the three of them accounted for nearly all the effective damage dealt to the Giant Dragons.
"Hahahaha! Westheid! You guys are incredible! That was amazing!"
Rafati, drenched in blood, had just managed to wear down and kill a Giant Dragon with his comrades. As he rested, bathed in hot Dragon Blood, he looked up at the figures dashing across the battlefield and couldn’t help but laugh in praise.
"It’s like you’re just cutting vegetables! You’re absolutely slaughtering these oversized lizards!"
Rafati pulled his Scimitar from the Dragon’s corpse, his pale silver hair now dyed a blackish-red with blood. He sighed.
"It’s a shame we haven’t mastered the secrets of [Annihilation Light Punishment]. Otherwise, slaying Dragons wouldn’t take so much effort."
Westheid, having just completed another Ascending Dragon, leaped away and overheard Rafati’s lament.
’The Yonglan Knights’ "Light Cannon"? That really is super effective against giant Monsters. If there were a whole group of Yonglan Knights who could fire Light Cannons, the Dragon Groups below Legend rank probably wouldn’t even stand a chance.’
Westheid said, "If you could let Reiya get the final kill on the Giant Dragons, that would be a huge help."
"No can do!"
Rafati immediately refused. "The grand feat of slaying a Dragon during a Trial is something we can’t miss, even if it’s not inscribed in the [Record of Merits]. To ask us to give up such an honor... my friend, that’s asking a bit much."
’Fine, don’t give us the kill then. But this is our promo series, so don’t screw it up for us.’
Westheid shook his head and refocused his attention on the remaining Giant Dragons on the battlefield.
Just then, he saw a Giant Dragon not far away spewing Dragon Flame at the Resistance Army. The inferno, hot enough to burn mountains and boil seas, rolled across the land like surging waves.
’Seriously? You think you can just sit back and pump out damage that comfortably?’
Westheid immediately approached it from behind.
His string of successes had made Westheid overconfident. He decided to throw the formula out the window.
’Screw it, I’m going straight for the Ascending Dragon!’
However, just as Westheid stomped heavily and leaped into the air, preparing to go straight for the Ascending Dragon, the Giant Dragon seemed to sense something and began to swing its head from side to side.
Since Westheid was already locked onto his target and descending, the Giant Dragon’s sudden movement left him exposed in the path of its fiery breath.
The scorching Dragon Flame instantly enveloped Westheid. After a brief, staggering impact like being hit by a wave of lava, his body was flung away like a rag doll, crashing onto the scorched earth amidst the ruins.
"Brother!"
"West!"
Yolanda and Reiya cried out in unison, their voices filled with anxiety.
Yolanda, being closer, sprinted with all her might and appeared in a flash where Westheid had landed.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
A few coughs came from the ruins, and Westheid slowly crawled out.
Her anxiety was unnecessary. Protected by his Mechanical Battle Armor, Westheid hadn’t suffered much damage. The attack had merely drained the Battle Armor’s energy, causing it to crumble into dull, lightless fragments.
And while his body had sustained some burns, his [Withered Glory Sun] was already healing them rapidly. The injuries weren’t serious.
Still, for the next quarter of an hour, Westheid was more or less out of commission.
The moment she saw her brother was fine, Yolanda’s worried expression seamlessly shifted to one of indifference.
"Your Ascending Dragon drifted into the fire cone? That’s what you get for playing Tachi."
"Wrong! It’s because I haven’t played Tachi *enough*. If my proficiency were higher, I could have redirected mid-air... Ugh, forget it. I’m done for now."
Westheid stubbornly refused to admit he’d made a bad call, but he was still embarrassed about pulling such a cringe-worthy move in front of his little sister.
Yolanda helped Westheid to his feet.
"Heh. Not as good as... the [River of Qinghui], is it? Brother, you should have started practicing the techniques passed down by our ancestors long ago."
"The ancestral ways... I’ll pass. I admit the Dragon Slaying Technique is outdated, but the [River of Qinghui] isn’t much better. ’With the time I’d spend practicing that, I’d rather pursue true power.’"
’An all-powerful Supreme Technique? Overcoming a stat deficit through pure skill and wisdom?’
’A hardcore meta-chaser like me never believes in so-called "skill." Even if I mastered the [River of Qinghui] to perfection, it would only ever be top-tier T1. It could never even touch the threshold of T0!’
’That’s a level of power a frog in a well could never even imagine!’
ROAR—
Just as Yolanda was helping Westheid up, the mournful roar of a Dragon echoed.
Looking toward the sound, they saw that Reiya had already subdued the Giant Dragon he had failed to kill. She had summoned a spear of lightning in her palm and was piercing the creature again and again, pinning it to the ground.
Each strike sent a shower of blood into the air.
The way she was almost torturing it to death... it was hard to say there weren’t personal feelings involved.
"Reiya can already slay Dragons that easily?"
Westheid smiled at the sight.
"Not bad. I’d say we’ve achieved our objective." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Having devoured so many Giant Dragons with her [Dragon Soul Furnace], Reiya’s body was at its breaking point, but the power she had gained was also more abundant than ever before.
Duke Qinghui scanned the surroundings again. The Resistance Army Warriors were almost nowhere to be seen. The Scorching Wings hadn’t brought many Giant Dragons to begin with, and after being reaped so efficiently by his group, the few that remained had sensed the unfavorable situation and fled.
Looking at this scene alone, one might get the false impression that the battle was already won.
"Wait, is it a little too quiet?"
Westheid’s smile suddenly froze, and his brow furrowed.
After a moment’s thought, he instantly understood why it was so quiet. Before, the battlefield of the other Legendary Powerhouse had been filled with a commotion a hundred times more intense than the one on the ground. But now, that battlefield had fallen silent, making this one seem quiet by comparison.
Westheid immediately looked up, only to see a colossal black shadow arriving in an instant.
It crashed heavily to the ground.
