Chapter 209: He will die.

Elliot frowned, but didn’t look away.

"It’s hard to say for sure when my health has been fine lately, but I guess it has nothing to do with that, right?" he said before sighing.

"Maybe someone wants to kill me... these days, I don’t think it would be difficult. There are more than five clans that want me dead, not counting the Royal Clan." He smiled heavily, but spoke again.

"But I doubt you can calculate the exact moment when someone from one of those clans will kill me..." He wrinkled his nose. "Well, you’re a god, I guess you could even do that."

"You’re overthinking it." Mikael smiled.

Elliot shrugged. "Well, lately a lot of things want to kill me."

"It’s not that someone wants to kill you, in this case." He assured him. "It’s that you’re going to die."

Elliot nodded. "It’s because of the curse, right?"

"It seems you’ve been investigating some things." Mikael was genuinely surprised. "It’s not something many people can see, you know?"

"I found a ruin of some power from the past while investigating some things... I must say, we Clarks are really in big trouble."

"Oh." Mikael became interested. "Are there still traces of the Clerics? I thought they had disappeared forever."

"What are you going to do about it? Your family attracted the wrath of the Clerics; those gods were not just anything." Mikael said, leaning forward. "Even though they are dead... they still have power."

A dead man with power... Elliot swallowed hard.

And as far as he knew, they had been dead for thousands or even millions of years.

No one knows when those guys died, but did they still have traces of power? Do they still control the lives of many people in the age of awakening?

It was hard to believe.

Mikael noticed his doubts, so he smiled. "It’s because they were real gods, little Elliot. They were real. Their powers transcend the ages and reach to the ends of the earth... that’s a real god."

Elliot nodded. It made sense.

But his face fell. Why should he have to bear the wrath of those guys when he had nothing to do with what his idiot relatives from the past stole?

"There are a few things that can activate the power of a fallen god in this era. A blood curse for violating sacred grounds and names is one of them," Mikael said. "You will inevitably die. You and your entire family."

Elliot shook his head helplessly. Facing death wasn’t so new to him, to tell the truth.

He had recently been on the brink of death; it hadn’t even been 72 hours since then. So it wasn’t that new.

Now, the issue is that he will die "irretrievably," no matter what he does.

It seems that death will be his best friend from now on, literally.

Although Elliot knew that this man was not here only to inform him.

"I think you have a way to avoid it," he said.

Mikael looked at him, stunned. "You think I can prevent a god from killing you?" he asked, dumbfounded.

"You wouldn’t have come here if you didn’t have a way to prevent it and, on top of that, wait for me for a couple of days," Elliot replied.

Then Mikael shrugged. "I don’t know what makes you think I can oppose the power of a god."

"He’s a fallen god, and you’re one too."

"I told you I’m not a god. I’m a divine being," Mikael replied.

"You still have divinity." Elliot shrugged. "And I think you’re stronger than you say you are."

"Tsk." Mikael leaned back in his chair again. "Naturally, I have a way to avoid that. However, it’s only an offer for you. I’m not a benevolent god, as you can see. I want something in return."

After saying that, Mikael raised an eyebrow and wrinkled his nose. "Something in return, I said. What a lie. I’m only coming to save you because you’re one of us."

Elliot nodded. "That reminds me, you’re also a summoner," he said.

"Although not as good as you."

"Please, Mr. God, can you stop saying that? You’re light-years ahead of me in terms of power. Talent is useless if it can’t be cultivated."

Mikael laughed out loud at his response, but returned to normal moments later, as if the laughter had been a lie.

"That’s why I’m here, little Elliot," he said.

"Tell me what you want. It’s no secret that I have no intention of dying right now," Elliot replied.

"Well, no one would want to die." Mikael laughed and decided to move on to the main topic.

"Join us, Elliot. We can protect you. We can give you the resources to grow, and I can prevent your death," he said seriously.

"Let’s take it one step at a time," said Elliot. "On the most important issue at hand, which is my death, how are you going to prevent it?" he asked.

"It’s like you said, in part. Although I’m not a god, my power is high enough to prevent a curse like that from killing you. In fact..." He smiled. "There are probably a few Clarks who can be saved from that curse. As long as they have a divine being protecting them, they can be saved," he said.

And finally, he added, "The rest will inevitably die."

"I understand," Elliot replied, nodding.

"So, who are you, and why do you want me to join you? Are you an organization of summoners?" he asked.

"We are the largest organization of summoners in the world. The only one that has grown so much that it has reached the level of having divine beings. We are always looking for summoners to prevent their deaths, as we are not very friendly toward humanity these days."

Elliot nodded, understanding.

Mikael continued. "To be honest, other organizations may accept you into their ranks. The Kingdom of Lux might be able to do so, or we could go further, to other continents, and you could join any of them, being so talented."

"But?" Elliot raised an eyebrow. He didn’t think Mikael would tell him the good things about other organizations when he was offering him a place in his own.

"But they want you as slave." Mikael said. "If you join one of those, they will enslave you by force, and you will never be free again."

"From what you say, you guys aren’t like that."

"At least we don’t enslave summoners," Mikael assured him. "We all suffer the same hardships. The persecution is constant, so we know what we’re going through, and that’s why we can sympathize with others."

"All of us?" Elliot wrinkled his nose. "I don’t think a god like you is really being persecuted right now."

"Believe it or not." Mikael shrugged. "Every organization with divine beings on the Ancient Continent and Pangea is after me, hunting for my head. Even the misnamed Sovereigns."

Elliot was genuinely surprised... even a god suffers persecution when he is a summoner.

He should have guessed, considering that in the early years of awakening, a powerful god died at the hands of many more, just because he was a summoner.

"Time is running out, Elliot." Mikael reminded him. "You will die if you don’t hurry. And I wouldn’t want someone as talented as you to die."

"I wouldn’t want to die either," said Elliot. "But I don’t even know anything about you. What if you’re deceiving me?"

"I am a god, Elliot. Why would I want to deceive you?" Mikael looked at him blankly.

He basically meant: if I wanted to kill you or do something bad to you, I would do it by force.

"I remember you said you’re not a god," Elliot said suddenly.

Mikael froze for a brief moment and shrugged. "Tsk."

He didn’t say anything else, but Elliot understood what he meant.

"Anyway, little Elliot. We are an organization with a large area of influence. This entire continent is within our area of influence." He smiled and remembered something. "I heard you’ve been researching Ancestor Lee, right? We may be the ones with the most information about him."

"After all, we were his allies in the past," he recalled.

He said "allies," not "subordinates," like every other force on the continent. That was amazing to hear.

It meant that this organization was more long-lived than any other on this continent.

Mikael noticed his interest, so he spoke again.

"We know everything that happens here and everything that has happened in the past."

Suddenly, he whispered a few words that only Elliot could hear: "That includes the events involving your father. That Bloody Elf and everything you want to think of as your target for revenge."
