Gamers Are Fierce-Chapter 650 - 648 Rescue
The system alert for destroying a battle car's system rang in his ear.
"Got it."
Li Ang's hand flashed with an electric arc, blue lightning flowing around the cannon barrel. The metal fracture behind the barrel immediately melted and solidified into two pulleys, carrying the barrel as it was dragged forward by the Stryker Armored Vehicle.
"At any stage of the race, drivers can pick up parts dropped from other vehicles and fit them onto their own..." Li Ang silently recited this sentence from the rulebook, holding the barrel with one hand and dragging the cannon onto the roof of the Stryker Armored Vehicle.
To facilitate driver modifications, all vehicle parts in the Death Race had standardized interfaces of the same specification. They simply needed to be pressed on and connected with screws, rivets, and the like.
But with Li Ang, things were even simpler. He activated Alchemy directly, causing the six shells loaded in the cannon system to fall into the cabin, and fused the entire base of the cannon directly onto the top of the Stryker Armored Vehicle.
This cannon wasn't meant for firing, but for physical strikes. Li Ang had deliberately designed its base to rotate freely at high speeds.
"Get down!" Li Ang shouted, grabbing the edge of the cannon.
The Witch, with her quick instincts, immediately ducked into the machine gunner position.
The next second, Li Ang gripped the cannon handle and pushed hard, causing the entire barrel to spin around and smash heavily onto the frame of a battle car trying to ram them from the side.
BANG!
The entire barrel was bent and flattened by the tremendous impact. Similarly, the roof of the battle car that tried to ambush them was completely blown off, revealing four dumbfounded drivers inside. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"Good morning." Li Ang smiled and nodded. Alchemy activated instantly, repairing the barrel to its original state. Then he grabbed the edge of the barrel and pushed forward again.
This time, the Dusk Knight, their driver, had already grasped Li Ang's plan and stuck close to the other car. This allowed the spinning barrel to slam into the back of the vehicle, causing it to Lose Control.
The four green-headed pig drivers (from "Bad Piggies") made an emergency exit, but their vehicle crashed head-on into the tunnel wall, causing an explosion.
Having just destroyed two cars, the Stryker Armored Vehicle immediately made the surrounding drivers wary, and they instinctively kept their distance.
"That car..." Claude Strife (from "Final Fantasy VII," with yellow spiky hair, blue eyes, handsome features, and carrying a Great Sword) looked at the distant Stryker Armored Vehicle, furrowing his brow and turning to the man with glasses in the passenger seat.
Dr. Gordon Freeman (protagonist of the "Half-Life" series, theoretical physicist, skilled with a crowbar) was usually silent in the game, not speaking a word, but here he seemed willing to talk.
"That NPC from GTA5 seems to be able to directly alter the physical structure of matter at the informational level," Gordon Freeman said indifferently. "Stay away from him."
"Uh... Is he hard to deal with?" Claude, who was driving, paused for a moment. In his mind, Dr. Gordon Freeman was a stoic demon who feared neither heaven nor earth. When faced with super-intelligent extraterrestrial lifeforms, he wouldn't hesitate to pull out a crowbar and mercilessly beat them to a pulp without expression.
"Just a bit," Gordon said dispassionately. "If others constantly pressure him, he could completely transform the whole car into a high-explosive bomb and destroy both himself and his opponents in a suicide attack. Getting too close could easily catch us in the blast."
Most of the drivers in the race were indeed Transcendents, and many were tough fighters, practically one-man armies. However, a vehicle was a necessary condition for participating in the race. If a vehicle or battle car lost its normal driving ability, the driver would be directly deemed defeated—for fairness, carrying the car on one's shoulder was also not permitted.
"Is that so..." Claude took a deep look at the Stryker Armored Vehicle and Li Ang on it, then stepped on the accelerator and sped up.
"Oh, the other vehicles have all intentionally kept their distance from us," Sunset Gold Smelter said, rubbing his sore eyes. He turned his head to speak in a deep voice to the Dusk Knight, "Now's our chance to speed up."
"Understood." The Dusk Knight pulled the gear lever, instantly accelerating.
Theoretically, the entire racetrack should have been underground, beneath the circular stadium. But as the vehicles emerged from the tunnel, they found the road ahead suddenly opened up.
"What is this..." Sunset Gold Smelter's brows furrowed tightly. What he saw was not an underground racetrack but ranges of mountains shrouded under the night sky's starlight.
Misty clouds lingered at the mountaintops, and winding mountain roads coiled around the steep peaks. From a high vantage point, one could clearly see the deep, dark canyons of The Abyss, so deep they seemed bottomless.
The racetrack, or rather, the mountain roads, seemed narrow relative to the battle cars. Maneuvering on the turns was difficult enough, let alone colliding with other vehicles and trying to stay on the track while ensuring one didn't fly off and fall.
"Be careful," Sunset Gold Smelter warned gravely. "According to the manual, you can't use the method of 'driving off the track and landing on the road below to overtake.' If you're knocked off the track multiple times, you'll be directly ruled as having lost the race."
"Don't worry, brace yourself." The Dusk Knight gripped the steering wheel tight and yanked the shift lever, his eyes shimmering with a frosty gleam.
This Knight, fully clad in heavy armor, was actually an ambulance driver in the real world.
Racing, speeding, accelerating, never stopping.
Though he wasn't a doctor, he shared the same critical duty as one: saving lives against the clock. Countless times he had snatched lives from the jaws of death; countless times he had found the fastest way out through complicated road conditions.
Don't underestimate ambulance drivers!
The heavy armored vehicle drifted wildly on the tortuous mountain road. Under the Knight's masterful control, the immense G-forces didn't drag the vehicle into The Abyss. Instead, they became the force maintaining its high-speed travel around the bends.
Overtaking, overtaking, and overtaking again.
The racers on the mountain road were astonished to find a heavy armored vehicle clinging to the mountainside, plowing through the road like a rampant bull, swiftly passing other vehicles as if struck by lightning.
"Err..." The Witch, sitting in the machine gunner position, turned somewhat pale. Under the immense G-forces, she felt like her internal organs were about to be ejected. She instinctively covered her mouth, trying to suppress the urge to vomit.
Li Ang, on the other hand, looked completely normal. His internal organs had long since been modified, and he could easily withstand G-forces of this level.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Li Ang glanced at the Witch, who was clearly in discomfort, and kindly suggested, "Do you feel like you're being firmly pressed into your seat, with your vision darkening and your head spinning? Continuous high G-forces can cause blood to rush to your head or legs. This can possibly lead to cerebral congestion, cerebral hemorrhage, leg swelling due to congestion, or even spinal fractures. I recommend that after this mission, you visit a shop in the square called Forging Furnace to undergo a body strengthening procedure.
"I've purchased their services there before. Now I eat well, sleep soundly, and can even take out my eyes before bed every night, soak them in boiling water, and scrub them clean. It feels fantastic."
