Gamers Are Fierce-Chapter 653 - 651 Plants
As the first echelon charged into the props section one after another, the race officially heated up.
The new track was no longer a mountainous road, but a massive amusement park, filled with a plethora of special items to pick up and numerous interactive facilities.
Unfortunately, the racers had no time to admire the wonders and beauty within the amusement park. No sooner had they entered the track than they began to use the weapons on their vehicles to engage in combat.
BOOM!
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
The sound of gunfire rose and fell. Explosions and fiery blasts devoured the coffee shops, gift shops, and landscaped lawns on either side of the road, reducing them to a heap of rubble.
SCREECH—
The Stryker Armored Vehicle skidded dangerously on the smooth pebble surface, narrowly avoiding a falling grenade.
The Witch extended her palms, releasing a Pink Energy Shield to cover the left front of the vehicle, blocking the grenade's blast and the flying shrapnel.
"Nine o'clock direction!"
Green data streamed through Sunset Gold Smelter's eyes as he shouted, and the Witch on the machine gun immediately rotated the shield to block a series of green beans the size of basketballs.
"Crazy Dave..."
The Witch looked back at the red-and-green flatbed truck chasing them and pressed her lips tightly together.
The flatbed truck looked old and battered, with one headlight missing and its body covered in scratches. It was pure mechanical junk. Even a used car market wouldn't take it.
Inside the truck sat three little green aliens, each holding a steering wheel. It was unclear how they were driving the vehicle.
Standing on top of the vehicle was a brown man with muttonchops, one eye larger than the other, wearing a pot on his head.
"Waby waby? Waby babub!"
The muttonchopped man ranted incomprehensible gibberish as he dumped bagged fertilizer into the vehicle's rear cargo bed.
An unbelievable thing happened as the fertilizer was poured in. All sorts of alien plants suddenly sprouted from the flatbed's cargo bed, which was filled with dirt:
Peashooters with green bean eyes and black hole mouths,
Angry-looking fume-shrooms,
Watermelon and iced-watermelon catapults that resembled trebuchets,
And cattails sitting on lily pads, looking very cute...
The not-so-spacious cargo bed sprouted dozens of diverse plants.
These alien plants unleashed their full firepower, showering their plant ammo in all directions.
"Are you kidding me?!"
The pale-faced Witch maintained the Energy Shield with her arms raised while she shouted furiously, "The spikes shot out by the cattails with their tails have way too much firepower! They're much more brutal than in the game! And the spikes even have a homing effect, faster than bullets!"
"Crazy Dave..."
Li Ang took a deep breath and spoke the name of the gibberish-spouting, pot-headed man behind them. "Or rather, Dave Smith. He's a central character in 'Plants vs. Zombies' and also a distinguished inventor, botanist, and businessman. The plants he cultivated have been fighting against the zombie armies under Dr. Zomboss's command..."
"Why do I feel like you're admiring him quite a bit?!"
The Witch couldn't help but turn around and retort.
"Not admiration, just a mutual recognition between outstanding inventors."
Li Ang corrected her seriously. "Transforming fragile plants into weapons of war comparable to cannons and missiles... Dave's technical skill is far beyond this era. Alas, I still can't decipher his encrypted communications. Otherwise, I'd definitely take this opportunity to exchange notes on biological modification with him."
"All that talk is fine, but are you going to help me or not?"
The Witch roared, "The firepower from the other side is just too fierce!!"
No wonder this Poor Mage was howling. The ten Stryker Armored Vehicles at the end of the first echelon were all within Crazy Dave's attack range.
Under Dave's command, the plant army desperately fired gatling peas, massive icy watermelons, blue electric arcs, and flame shockwaves, grinding the road into rubble. This forced the surrounding vehicles to continuously dodge and weave, involuntarily slowing down and gradually being caught up by the vehicles of the second echelon.
"Damn it, Dave's gone nuts again!"
Perched atop the Giant Mechanical Warhorse, Link cursed under his breath. He leaped up from the horse's back and, using the art of repulsion, successfully deflected an icy watermelon hurtling toward him. During the slowed bullet-time, he fired fifteen arrows forward, shooting down the hot butter that accompanied the icy watermelon's descent.
Geralt's convoy, driving alongside Link, was also having a rough time.
With his silver hair, Geralt kept casting Aard, Igni, and Kun En signs to block the barrage of plant projectiles, his complexion growing paler by the moment. Beside him, Wolf and William assisted in the defense using shuriken, mechanical umbrellas, and the Yin Yang Technique, but they still couldn't prevent their vehicle from slowing further and accumulating damage.
"What kind of drugs has Dave taken this time?"
The Ex-Imperial Royal Guard of Alfheim, Colvo Atano, whispered to the bald Agent 47 beside him, "In the past, didn't he only start his indiscriminate attacks near the end of the second stage? Doing this now completely benefits the teams at the front of the first echelon."
"Maybe it's because there's an undead here,"
Agent 47 glanced at the Dark Souls Undead sitting with Link on the Giant Mechanical Warhorse and spoke indifferently, "Although undead and zombies are quite different, I doubt Dave can tell them apart. The moment he sees anything resembling a zombie, he suspects it's after his brain and descends into paranoid madness."
"We can't keep this up."
Cloud clenched his lips tightly and turned his head to Gordon Freeman, who was sitting in the co-pilot's seat, "Doctor..."
"Let me handle it."
Wearing the yellow HEV suit, Gordon Freeman sighed, opened the door, climbed onto the roof, and grabbed a massive gun glowing with an orange hue.
This gun, from the Heisan East Laboratory, was officially called the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator, colloquially known as the Gravity Gun.
Its effect matched its name—controlling gravity.
As the watermelon cannonade blotted out the sky, casting wide shadows, a cold light flickered across the lenses of Gordon Freeman's glasses, and his finger firmly pulled the trigger of the Gravity Gun.
WHIRR—
The Gravity Gun emitted a dazzling orange light, firing a Beam that hit the heart of the watermelon rain.
The watermelon struck by the Beam didn't change, but the surrounding watermelons deviated from their trajectory, congregating around the Beam and clumping together into a mass.
"..."
With a strained expression, Gordon Freeman laboriously adjusted the direction of the Gravity Gun's Beam and pulled the trigger again, launching the massive cluster of watermelons toward Dave and the three little green aliens in their flatbed truck.
BOOM!
Countless watermelons burst open, their bright red juices painting all the Mu Mas on both sides of the track red, the sweet fragrance of fruit wafting through the air.
"Finally took care of it," the Witch breathed a sigh of relief, deactivating her Energy Shield.
But Li Ang's brow furrowed as he stared at the dust-laden road behind them. "Not yet."
