Chapter 90: Why Not? (1)

While Caleb was aura farming and feeling smug about his dramatic entrance, the demon general dug his way out of the crater he found himself, his axe lying somewhere else.

Kolga had no idea what hit him, but it was fast and it was powerful; more so than he could have anticipated. Confusion was clear in his eyes as he came to stand at the edge of the crater, trying to find his bearing.

’Just what the hell was that...?’

The demon general looked around until he spotted the settling dust a little over 60 meters away. He quickly spotted the three commanders getting back to their feet and a stranger he didn’t recognize.

’He must be the one.’ Kolga narrowed his eyes at Caleb, finding him unpleasant. ’If he could sneak up on me without my noticing, then he’s not simple.’ He looked around and found his axe.

With a wave of his left hand, the axe flew straight into it, and at the same time, his aura burst forth. His expression was no longer jovial, being replaced with the weightiness of someone who had met his match.

"I don’t know who you are, but you made a terrible mistake coming here..." Kolga said in an ominous tone and took a step forward. "And you know who dies the earliest...? People who fancy themselves heroes."

With every step he took the atmosphere shook, the ground trembled and his presence grew. Like a torrential wave, the aura fell on the exhausted commanders, eliciting groans from them. They were forced to take a knee, helpless yet again.

Caleb on the other hand turned to face the demon with raised brows, completely shrugging off the supposedly overbearing aura. Now that he was really paying attention to the demon, he couldn’t help but utter something that enraged the demon general.

"A bald-headed demon, huh."

"You fucker!"

Kolga roared in outrage as he swept his left hand to the side. Instantly, an invisible force wrapped around the commanders and Caleb before they were swung powerlessly to the side. It seemed Caleb had touched upon a sensitive topic for Kolga, something the general couldn’t just ignore.

"Urgh..."

The commanders groaned in pain as they came to a skidding halt through the trench their bodies were forced to make. The only one who ended up on his feet was Caleb.

’Telekinesis...?’ His eyes widened in shock. ’That’s a nice ability to have...’ The surprise quickly changed into interest, his turquoise blue eyes flaring dangerously.

Just before they were wrapped with that mental power, Caleb felt a slight disturbance in the surrounding space. Ever since getting his spatial displacement ability, his spatial awareness gradually increased, granting him the ability to detect any invisible changes around him.

It was why he was not flung around helplessly like the commanders. His flight ability granted him all the force he needed to counter the telekinetic force, allowing him to retain his cool.

[Name: Kolga, The Bald One]

[Race: Demon]

[Rank: Demon General]

[Description: A race of vicious and bloodthirsty beings who appeared on Elvoran hundreds of years ago, declaring war on all other lifeforms. They are believed to have originated from the dungeons, thrive on violence and all that is evil. No one really knows what their goal is...]

[State: Enraged]

’Yeah, I got the last part.’ Caleb inwardly shook his head. ’And I can see why the system would say believed to have originated from the dungeons...’ Caleb noticed the same foreign signature he found on monster cores.

’But why is the system using the word ’believed.’?’ He was under the impression that the system knew everything. ’Then again, this goes to show that whoever created the genetic system has no profound knowledge about the demons.’

"Caleb..." Commander Fred looked up at his saviour. "I’m glad you could make it. But that demon..." He looked over to the approaching demon.

"That demon is no ordinary one."

"Yeah, I figure." Caleb agreed turning to face the commander. "You guys are more than enough proof of how powerful that bald head is." His action left the others speechless.

However, because Fred expressed no worries, they kept their mouth shut, choosing to see what this mysterious stranger would do.

"No. No, you don’t understand." Fred shook his head, the worry in his eyes clear. "There is another one... We split into two groups! The second group went after the Royal Commander. Howe—"

Before he could complete his sentence, the demon abruptly appeared behind Caleb, his axe in a wide swing. Kolga was already fuming, and Caleb made it worse when he showed his back to the demon.

"How dare you!!" Kolga bellowed with raging eyes. "You think you can turn your back on me?!!" The axe came down on Caleb like a raging strike of lightning.

Commander Fred and the other two shielded their faces from the shockwaves that were bound to result from such a powerful strike. They were damned to feel the force whip them around. After all, they still couldn’t move. freёwebnoѵel.com

’Shit! Shit! Shit!’ Commander Eric cursed vehemently. ’Who the fuck is this moron?! He only came here to add to our death count! Who acts this careless and carefree in a fight?!’ He couldn’t understand what Fred saw in the man.

Sure, he cleared a dungeon solo and had the right to be cocky. But this was a fucking demon; they were not the same thing!

"However, with how you guys ended up, there’s a high chance the others are in trouble as well." Caleb completed the statement. "Yeah, I can see that happening..."

’Huh?’

A sudden cold wind blew past the face of the flabbergasted commander. Opening his eyes, he was awakened to the sight of the demon general frozen in a thick block of ice.

Commander Oliver was just as shocked, Fred included. However, he recovered faster than the others, nodding in agreement with Caleb’s assessment. He couldn’t help but sigh in relief, knowing his guess was right.

’The duchess would definitely want to keep him by her side.’ Fred silently thought. ’I have to make sure he returns with me to the duchy...’

While Fred was considering the strategic importance of having Caleb as an ally, the others were having the opposite thoughts.

"Here." Caleb took one hand out of his pocket and three vials materialized. "This is high-grade mana potion. It should get you guys back on your feet."

Caleb passed the vials to Fred, the glistening liquid gushing out waves of mana that made the commanders gulp in apparent desire.

The magical energy emanating from the vials was dense and unlike any mana potion they had ever seen. Moreover, they felt their mana core tremble in what they could only interpret as excitement.

CRACK!

A crack from the block of ice shifted everyone’s attention to the demon. It was finally breaking out of the ice prison. Caleb finally turned to face the demon general, his expression as calm as ever.

"In which direction is the dungeon?" He asked, looking over his shoulder.

The ice encasing Kolga continued to crack while his aura returned full force, adding to the force breaking down the block.

"Eh... That way?" Fred quickly got his bearings straight and pointed in the right direction. "You should focus on this demon first, Caleb. Aside from that telekinetic power, the demon can also teleport."

"Oh, really..." Caleb looked at the bald demon like he had just won the lottery. "You don’t say..." He added with a soft grin, already seeing how overpowered those skillsets would make him.

"The priestess is in the castle." Caleb suddenly added a moment later. "You can get yourselves healed... As for me, I’ll be going to the dungeon."

"Didn’t you hear what I said?" Fred wasn’t clear on what was going through Caleb’s mind. Sure, he froze the demon general with apparent ease. But how many times would the demon allow that to happen?

"I heard you loud and clear, Commander." Caleb replied. "But I intend to take on both demons at the same time."

"Are you insane?!" Commander Eric reprimanded Caleb’s behaviour. He couldn’t stand the man’s arrogance anymore. "Why would you do something so foolish?!"

"Why not?" He shrugged in reply. "It’s fun that way... Also, I want to see how much stronger I’ve become."

At those words, the final piece of the ice block broke, freeing the demon general. The full force of the demon’s aura crushed down on the commanders once more.

"AHH...!!!"

Kolga was boiling with rage and humiliation. How dare a human treat him so casually? More than once, Caleb had made a mockery of his strength.

He couldn’t let this slide nor could he allow Caleb to live. Kolga attempted another swing at Caleb, and this time, he was ready for any surprise spells.

"I’ll be back soon." Caleb instead, looked unperturbed, the confident smile on his face growing.

And the moment those words left his mouth, the commanders witnessed a sight that left them speechless for several minutes.

Caleb had suddenly appeared behind the demon in a flash, faster than anything any of them could react to. He grabbed the demon by the neck and flung him into the sky.

Then, with a bang that shattered the ground beneath him, Caleb took flight. He almost instantaneously reached the flabbergasted demon, his right hand clenched into a powerful fist.

BOOM...!!!
