Chapter 1009 Just Fine

A pair of figures appeared at the edge of a crater, looking down from above toward what they thought was Sylas' corpse. Slug tails swung slowly behind them as they licked their lips.

Go.

They made the decision and shot forward at the same time. They didn't know what happened to Sylas, but how could they miss out on this opportunity?

BANG!

They didn't even see what happened before their bodies were burnt to an absolute crisp.

Sylas' Will was very much still alive, like a thriving but slumbering beast. Manifesting of its own volition, it lengthened his Scorned Wraps, slapping out with a momentum that burned them to a crisp.

But, Sylas' expression became several orders paler. Every time it happened, he lost a little bit more of himself.

The current state of his body could only be said to be horrible. There were barely a few chips of bone and lengths of tendons and ligaments making up what remained of his arms and legs. Well, one of his legs anyway, the other one seemed to be just fine.

The only reason there were bits and pieces of them left remaining at all were because of the Scorned Wraps. But there was a heavy aura outside of them.

A Demerit that transcended beyond what the impotent system alone would match in the first place.

Even now, Sylas wasn't even quite sure what happened. All he had done was follow what he had seen in the Basilisk King's vision. He thought that there was no easier way to piss off the system than this, especially after he felt the aura of the All-Seeing Eye.

It reminded him of that vision, and Sylas made a choice based on that alone.

However, his task wasn't just as simple as pissing off the All-Seeing Eye. He needed to immerse himself in the feeling of being a Basilisk, because that was the only way for him to comprehend Gogo's Gold Gene fast enough.

There was a reason that vision had triggered the moment Gogo unlocked his Gold Gene, the two were linked. By basking in the exact feeling Gogo's Ancestor had gone through, Sylas was able to quicken his comprehension of the Rune, accelerating it by several measures.

As a result, he was able to take the Silver Genes he had and fuse them into a crude approximation.

This Gold Gene that he created wasn't something that he would ever put anywhere near his body. However, the Madness Key was an item that even swallowed Corrupt Genes. If it could take on Genes like that, then why not badly mangled, pale representations of Gold Genes?

Sylas had known he didn't need to get it perfect. He just needed to get close enough. So long as he was close enough, he would be able to successfully get the Madness Key to register it as a Gold Gene.

At that point, he allowed the Madness Key to absorb it and he cleared the second requirement.

Now, he was a Tier Three Madness Disciple.

But he was also half dead.

In the end, in order to succeed, he had forced a Fusion with Gogo. Even with the Hibernation Realm's hyper-accelerated healing, the little guy was in bad shape right now.

It had to be remembered that the Hibernation Realm wasn't a time warp. It amplified healing factor.

This meant that in the event there was an injury that Gogo's natural healing factor couldn't deal with, it would actually have no effect at all.

This was something that Sylas had learned when he was helping Nosphaleen cheat through the Mesmeryx Trials.

Now, he was afraid that Gogo might be in such a situation right now.

Sylas took a shaky breath, only to remember that there was still a hole in his chest. He couldn't see clearly, but he wasn't sure if that was because his eyes had burst, or if it was because he had literally burned them close from all the lightning.

"Are you waiting for me to attack?" A soft voice almost breathed into Sylas' ears.

"Are you waiting for me to die before you do?" Sylas replied just as nonchalantly. But his voice didn't work, so he projected Runes into the air instead.

"… You can still do that. I doubt you're dying anytime soon."

"Don't be so sure."

"If you want to kill me so badly, then just do it. I'm not your child, you don't need to test me like this. I've survived this long on my own, I'm not a fool. Has anyone ever told you that you're incredibly patronizing?"

"No." Sylas replied.

"I doubt that."

Lorien's voice drifted off into silence, and a whole three hours passed before she spoke again.

"You really have no intention of dying."

Sylas didn't reply this time. He couldn't be bothered to.

"Fine. How do you want me to help?"

Sylas didn't reply again. Instead, there was a shimmering light and Nosphaleen suddenly appeared.

"Young master?" Nosphaleen's eyes opened wide. She had never seen Sylas in such a state before.

"Carry me." Sylas said. "We're leaving."

"Yes."

Nosphaleen's body wiggled and a mist grew out from her. Like a soft cloud, this mist of sky blues, violets, and pinks sank under Sylas and pulled him up.

Finally, Sylas closed his eyes.

"This bazaar is ours now. I'm sure there's something that can be used to help me heal." Sylas communicated with Nosphaleen.

Nosphaleen blinked.

It was?

Off in the far-off distance more than a kilometer away, the head of an enemy fell and a flag was gripped by Sylas' Will.

A pillar of light descended from above and Sylas felt a oneness with the world that he had never experienced before.

Palms of Fate activated.

"… Never mind," Sylas said calmly. "It seems that I'll be just fine."

Lorien trembled, only just now realizing… Sylas wasn't lying there waiting for her to try and kill him, nor was he testing her. While he was here, he had been fighting a battle over a kilometer away with nothing more than his telekinesis and the Will he had left.
