Genetic Ascension-Chapter 1012 Targeting
Chapter 1012 Targeting
Sylas looked around.
Nearby, Nosphaleen was lost in a silent meditation. She had awoken when Sylas had, then seeing that he was fine, she went back to silently protecting him.
For a long while now, she had been quite protective of him and silently supportive. Sylas felt that she had more than proven herself to be trustworthy. Though, it didn't really make much sense to be distrustful of her in the first place.
With his Insight Path Talent, if she had any sinister intentions, he would be able to feel it.
And now, he would be on another level.
The last time Sylas messed with things, he had gotten an obscene amount of Experience points. It was just unfortunate that they had been tailored for a completely unrelated Profession that was ironically nowhere near as difficult for him to Level up.
But now… he had relied on Extricate to succeed, and the result was a large amount of Experience for Taboo Bond.
Finally, he felt like he could Level it up again.

Sylas' screen glitched, a flicker coming to his eye. He could already feel an odd swelling feeling coming from his Luck that told him that something was going to happen.
It was odd. When he pushed Runeweaver to Level 50, he hadn't gotten these notifications. So what was happening this time?
As though in response to his thoughts…

Yet another glitch.
Sylas was even more confused now.
'This has to be the doing of the All-Seeing Eye… but…'
The reason why Sylas was confused was because this part was only natural. Upgrading a Profession to E-Grade would always necessitate a Quest or challenge of some sort. The trouble was that this was triggering all on its own.
Judging by what happened with Runeweaver, this shouldn't be happening naturally. Which meant that this was either a unique quirk of the former system and the All-Seeing Eye, or he was being targeted by the All-Seeing Eye on purpose.
He didn't know why, but it felt like there was something particularly pointed and almost cruel about the way the All-Seeing Eye treated him. By logic, he felt that it was likely because of the Madness Key. But he had no way of confirming this with any sort of 100% assurance.

[>Establish yourself as the Progenitor of a Galaxy]

Sylas didn't even know what he was reading at this point. He had already been screwed over by this system enough. Just by virtue of his existence, he was about to be public enemy number one.
Of the three Chosen, he was the easiest to target. He had no one but himself to rely on, and there wouldn't be anyone swooping in to save him any time soon.
But now, it not only wanted him to do this, but…
—
[Should you fail to succeed within {Three Years}, your Bloodline Root will be severed]
—
Bloodline Root… Sylas didn't even know what that was, but if the gist his Ancient Ithkuil was giving him was correct, this All-Seeing Eye was literally threatening to make him impotent.
It had taken everything he had just to become the Progenitor of a World. A Summoned World at that, where he had all the advantages available to him. How would he even do this?
The worst part was the fine print.
If his Upgrade Quests were tied up into this, didn't that mean that he wouldn't be able to progress his Professions to help him? How would he grow powerful enough to become the Progenitor of a Galaxy if he couldn't Extricate E-Grade Genes?
Even if he could Extricate E-Grade Genes, he would probably need to at least do so for D-Grade Genes as well before he could even think about conquering these lands.
Then there was the fine print within the fine print… just how long would this All-Seeing Eye even last?
As far as Sylas could tell, this was a temporary matter and wouldn't possibly have staying power. Would it really last for three years? Something was telling him that the answer to that question was a very, very firm no.
Sylas had no idea how correct he was. There was a very good reason the All-Seeing Eye had given Jala a limit of 30 days.
But even Sylas couldn't fathom that this was how little time he had.
If he had known, though, he would have been even more certain that the All-Seeing Eye was targeting him. Why would it make it clear to Jala how much time he had, yet lie to Sylas about having a full three years?
Sylas stared at the screen for a long while, feeling a different sort of weight falling onto him.
This wasn't a normal level of targeting. This All-Seeing Eye wanted to sever more than just his Bloodline at the root—it wanted to erase him.
He had thought that he had suffered at the hands of Demerits before. But this? This was on a completely different level.
Sylas looked down at the Scorned Wrap, slowly clenching and then unclenching his fists. His Will poured into them and then a spiraling mass of white cloth took shape, flickering around him in a controlled dance guided by his telekinesis.
As much as he didn't want to admit it, Sylas knew that he needed help. It was just a matter of where to get it from.
Would what Lorien had prepared be enough? How far would he have to go?
