Chapter 439 - This Trainee Fatui Harbinger is Too Unreliable [439]

"You..."

Neuvillette began, his tone sharp, but before he could continue, the door burst open. Luo Qing entered the room, cutting off whatever Neuvillette was about to say.

"What are you doing here..."

Neuvillette's gaze turned toward Luo Qing, a flicker of hostility visible in his eyes.

By now, it was clear—these two were hiding something together.

"I'm Lady Furina's considerate little boyfriend. Why, am I not allowed to be here?"

Luo Qing smirked, his tone casual but mocking. He stepped in front of Furina protectively, locking eyes with Neuvillette.

"It looks like you were bullying my dear Furina."

"..."

Neuvillette remained silent.

The devastation at White Birch Town weighed heavily on his conscience. He couldn't shake the feeling that his negligence had allowed such a tragedy to occur.

To prevent another disaster like White Birch Town, he needed to uncover the secrets Furina was hiding.

"Prophecy concerns the lives and future of everyone in Fontaine," Neuvillette said, his voice low but firm. "Luo Qing, I hope you understand what's at stake."

The atmosphere shifted. Water elemental energy surged through the room, coiling with intensity. It was clear that if Neuvillette so much as willed it, a tidal wave of power would engulf Luo Qing.

"Oh? And what if I don't?"

Luo Qing snorted, his own aura erupting in response. A deep purple glow radiated around him, creating a fierce counterforce.

The oppressive tension between them made the air thick and heavy, sending ripples of unease throughout the building. Even Lumine and Paimon, who had just arrived and were now frozen at the door, could feel the suffocating pressure.

"Stop it!"

Furina's voice rang out, sharp and commanding.

The moment she spoke, the clash of energy between the two vanished as quickly as it had begun.

Furina glanced at Neuvillette, then tugged lightly at Luo Qing's sleeve.

"Luo Qing, let's go..."

Luo Qing took a deep breath, releasing the energy he had been gathering. His gaze lingered on Neuvillette for a moment before he nodded. Holding Furina's hand, he led her out of the room without another word.

Inside the now-quiet office, Lumine and Paimon cautiously stepped in.

"That was..."

Lumine's voice trailed off as she processed what she had just witnessed. The cold look in Luo Qing's eyes had been unlike anything she had seen before. If Furina hadn't intervened, the two might have come to blows.

"It's you two," Neuvillette said, exhaling deeply as he tried to calm himself.

In all his years, he had rarely come so close to losing control. If Furina hadn't spoken, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

"What happened just now?" Lumine asked hesitantly, glancing in the direction Luo Qing and Furina had gone.

"Furina is hiding something," Neuvillette replied, his tone steady but heavy with frustration. "Something about the Prophecy... but she refuses to talk. If this continues, another disaster like White Birch Town could happen again."

"So that's why you were pressing her for answers..."

"It's useless to pressure her."

Neuvillette shook his head.

"She's always been adept at avoiding direct confrontation, and now that Luo Qing is standing by her side, it's even harder to get through to her.

"The only way she'll speak is if she's forced into a situation where she has no choice."

---

After leaving the office, Luo Qing noticed how downcast Furina seemed. Though he had his own questions for her, he decided not to push her just yet.

Instead, he quietly held her hand, walking with her through the streets of Fontaine until they reached the bustling Leonine District.

Even as they strolled, Furina remained silent. When a few journalists managed to snap photos of them holding hands, she forced a strained smile before pulling Luo Qing away from the attention.

"Rina..." Luo Qing finally stopped, gently tugging her hand to get her attention. His voice was soft.

"Wandering aimlessly like this won't do. If there's somewhere you want to go, just tell me. I'll take you."

"..."

Furina hesitated for a moment before speaking quietly.

"What did you just call me?"

"Rina, of course~" Luo Qing replied with a playful grin.

"Couples always have affectionate nicknames for each other, don't they? You can call me 'Little Qing-Qing' if you want."

"Disgusting..."

Furina pouted, though the corners of her lips curved upward slightly. For the first time that day, her mood seemed to lift.

After a moment, she said softly, "Luo Qing, can you take me to White Birch Town? I... I want to see it for myself."

"Now?" Luo Qing asked.

"But it's late. The transport ships have stopped running for the day."

"...I know."

Furina's voice was barely audible. She couldn't help but think that if she truly possessed the powers of a god, the distance from Fontaine to White Birch Town would be nothing.

"Well, it's not impossible," Luo Qing said with a mischievous smile. "But it'll require a small sacrifice on your part."

"Sacrifice?" Furina tilted her head, looking up at him in confusion.

"What kind of sacrifice?"

"It's simple," Luo Qing replied.

In one swift motion, he swept her off her feet, cradling her in his arms.

"All you need to do is hold on tight to me. Otherwise, you might feel a little uncomfortable—nauseous, maybe."

"What are you—"

Furina instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, holding on tightly.

Luo Qing's eyes glimmered gold, and the world around them stretched into a tunnel of light.

Moments later, the distorted surroundings stabilized, and Furina found herself standing on the mountainside overlooking White Birch Town.

Under the moonlit sky, the trail up the mountain was illuminated by scattered torches. Refugees and supplies were being escorted by Fatui soldiers to a temporary shelter farther up the slope.

"This is..."

Furina's voice faltered.

"My colleagues," Luo Qing explained quietly. "The Fatui stepped in to help with the disaster relief. Most of the survivors have been moved to the safety of the mountain camps."

"..."

Furina lowered her head, remaining silent for a while. Then, she reached out and gently held Luo Qing's hand.

"Don't you have questions for me?" she asked softly.

"Of course I do," Luo Qing replied with a gentle smile.

He reached out and pinched her cheek lightly, his playful tone returning.

"But if you don't want to answer, that's fine too."

He paused, his voice softening.

"No matter what, I'll believe in you."
