Chapter 442 - This Trainee Fatui Harbinger is Too Unreliable [442] [40 PS]

"..."

Luo Qing stood frozen, staring in the direction Furina had run. He took a sharp breath and glanced at Neuvillette, still seated in the judge's position.

Damn it.

He had spent days carefully coaxing Furina back to a better mood, ensuring she no longer hid under the covers at night, quietly shedding tears. And now, this guy had to pull something like this?

Meanwhile, chaos erupted inside the Opera House.

For the first time, the audience had witnessed their Archon flee so dejectedly.

Speculations flared up anew—some even suggesting that the current Furina wasn't the real Hydro Archon, but an imposter.

The murmurs of doubt grated on Luo Qing's nerves. If Furina heard them, she might end up crying on the spot.

"I hope you won't regret what you've done today..." Luo Qing said to Neuvillette in a flat tone before turning to follow Furina.

As he approached the exit, he paused, frowning as his gaze swept over the crowd.

"You ignorant fools," he muttered under his breath. "Slap yourselves."

The moment the words left his mouth, the once-raucous Opera House fell eerily silent.

The crowd, which had been buzzing with criticisms of the Hydro Archon, now stood motionless, their eyes glazed and vacant. Slowly, as though puppets on strings, they raised their hands and began slapping their own faces.

"..."

Neuvillette's brows furrowed as he observed the scene.

Even he hadn't been entirely immune to the mental influence in Luo Qing's words, though his formidable willpower had allowed him to resist its effects. Still, he'd needed to exert his strength to nullify the compulsion.

So, this is the Twelfth Harbinger of the Fatui...

Neuvillette watched Luo Qing's retreating figure, then flicked his wrist, summoning a wave of cool, deep-blue water that cascaded over the entranced crowd. The spell washed away their compulsion, snapping them back to reality.

Regardless, their mission had been accomplished. Letting Luo Qing vent on their behalf didn't matter.

Outside the Opera House

Luo Qing expected Furina to have already retreated to the Palace of Melusine, but as he reached the entrance, he spotted her surrounded by a swarm of reporters.

They blocked her escape, bombarding her with sharp, pointed questions.

"Why hasn't the Hydro Archon taken any action against the prophecy's looming threat?"

"In such a crisis, why are you focused on romance instead of protecting the citizens?"

Furina, trapped in their encirclement, was at a loss. Her eyes were beginning to glisten with unshed tears, her expression growing increasingly hollow. If this continued, she might break down in front of the reporters.

"That's enough! All of you, stop!" Luo Qing's voice thundered through the crowd.

The reporters froze as though turned to stone, their eyes vacant and unfocused.

"Luo Qing..."

Furina turned, looking at him. Her lips trembled, and her teary eyes overflowed with unspoken grievances.

"Let's go, Furina," Luo Qing said gently, stepping beside her. He cupped her face, wiping away the dampness at the corners of her eyes. Then he took her hand and led her away from the scene.

Behind them, the reporters stood motionless for a long while before slowly regaining their senses. However, they seemed to have forgotten why they were even there. Their recording devices, too, had somehow been destroyed.

Back at the Palais Mermonia

Furina sat on the edge of her bed like a doll that had lost its strings, staring blankly ahead.

Luo Qing sighed heavily. Mentally, he cursed Neuvillette's family tree several times over.

He knew Furina's recent cheerfulness had been a facade—forced smiles masking a heart more fragile than ever. It had taken him so much effort to lift her spirits, only for Neuvillette to ruin everything.

Doesn't that guy have any sense? Can't he tell how she's feeling?

"Fufu..." Luo Qing sighed again, stepping closer. He gently pulled Furina into his arms.

"If you want to cry, it's okay," he whispered. "I won't tell anyone."

At those words, the tears Furina had been holding back finally spilled over.

She buried her face in Luo Qing's chest, sobbing softly.

Luo Qing said nothing more. He simply held her and lightly stroked her back.

In moments like this, words of comfort were meaningless. The only way to help was to let her release the emotions she had bottled up inside.

After what felt like an eternity, Furina's sobs began to subside. Her breathing grew steady again.

"Thank you, Luo Qing..." she murmured, her voice barely audible.

She had never imagined that the person who would understand her heart so intimately and support her so unconditionally would be a Fatui Harbinger from Snezhnaya.

But at this point, his identity didn't matter.

To her, Luo Qing had become the most important person in her life.

She had once thought that person might be Neuvillette.

But she had only been fooling herself.

"Luo Qing... I want to visit Whitespruce Town again. May I?"

"Right now?" Luo Qing hesitated.

Given the aftermath of the flood disaster, many of the surviving residents harbored deep resentment toward Furina. Visiting now was risky. He couldn't guarantee they wouldn't say hurtful things.

"I just want to see it..." Furina's voice was soft, tinged with self-reproach. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with sorrow.

"I want to see what Whitespruce Town has become. Please..."

"..." Luo Qing fell silent.

Logically, he knew it was better for Furina to avoid such places until her emotions stabilized.

But the sadness in her eyes was unbearable.

If he refused, she might sink deeper into guilt and despair.

"Fine..." Luo Qing relented with a sigh. "But promise me you won't run off on your own again, okay? I'll worry."

"Mm..." Furina nodded obediently.

She looked up at him, managing a small smile despite her tear-streaked face. The sight of her dimples, usually so endearing, now felt like crushed blossoms to Luo Qing, stirring an ache in his heart.

Not long after

Thanks to Luo Qing's swift pacing, the two arrived at Whitespruce Town under the cover of night.

This time, Luo Qing didn't stop at the hillside for a distant view. He accompanied Furina into the heart of the underground settlement.

The area was still classified as hazardous in the wake of the disaster. The surviving residents had all relocated to higher ground, leaving the town deserted.

The empty streets offered some relief to Luo Qing as he guided Furina through the ruined town.

As she walked among the damaged homes and waterlogged remnants, Furina remained silent, her face clouded with grief.

Even without experiencing the disaster firsthand, the aftermath spoke volumes. She could vividly imagine the despair and terror that had gripped the townsfolk.

Her thoughts grew heavier as they approached an ancient shipwreck. Furina stopped in her tracks, staring at the relic in deep contemplation.

Suddenly, a familiar female voice called out from nearby.

"Luo Qing, long time no see..."
