Chapter 22: A good morning

Morning sunlight streamed through the slightly parted curtains, casting warm golden rays across the room.

The gentle touch of daylight caressed Brandon's skin, waking him up from the depths of sleep.

His body stirred beneath the covers and a soft sigh escaped his lips as his mind slowly drifted from the haze of the sleep.

His eyelashes fluttered, before his blue eyes finally opened, adjusting to the gentle brightness that filled the room.

Blinking away the last remnants of sleep, he turned his head slightly and found himself gazing at Ravene.

She stood by the dresser with her back partially turned to him and she was wearing a simple underwear.

Her toned figure was illuminated by the sunlight that cascaded over her bare shoulders, highlighting the smoothness of her skin.

The curve of her spine was subtly pronounced as she reached behind herself, fumbling with the strap of her blue bra, trying to secure the hooks.

"E-Eh?"

Brandon's gaze flickered to the mirror in front of her and she met his gaze through the glass.

A small smile formed on her lips "Good morning, Kael."

He sat up slowly, running a hand through his tousled hair as he let out a quiet breath.

His voice came out slightly husky from sleep as he responded, "Yeah... good morning."

His gaze dropped to her struggling fingers, noticing the way they fumbled with the thin strap.

Without hesitation, he rose to his feet and stepped closer to her.

"Let me help..."

"Mhm.." Ravene tilted her head slightly as he moved behind her.

The scent of her skin reached his senses as he grasped the delicate straps.

His fingers pulled them into place before carefully securing the hooks.

She let out a quiet sigh of relief and her shoulders relaxed "Thank you, dear," she murmured, turning to face him with a smile.

Raising her hand, she reached up and lightly patted his head "Go freshen up. I'll have your coffee ready by the time you're done."

Brandon gave her a small nod before stepping away.

As Brandon stepped out of the bathroom, he ran a hand through his damp hair, letting out a slow breath.

Dressed in nothing but a pair of comfortable sweatpants, his bare feet padded softly against the wooden floor as he made his way through the hallway.

As he entered the kitchen, his gaze landed on Ravene.

She was standing by the counter with her back turned to him, and she was still in her underwear from earlier.

The thin straps of her blue bra contrasted against the pale smoothness of her skin, the curve of her back leading down to the matching pair of panties that hugged her hips.

Her toned physique was apparent in the way her muscles moved subtly beneath her skin as she reached for something on the counter.

She hadn't noticed him yet, too focused on her task and a playful smile appeared on Brandon's lips.

Moving soundlessly, he closed the distance between them.

Without warning, he slipped his arms around her waist from behind and his chest pressed lightly against her bare back as he enveloped her in his embrace.

"Ah..." Ravene let out a small gasp and her body tensed for a split second before relaxing as she recognized his presence.

"Kael..." she sighed, her voice carrying both amusement and mild exasperation.

"You're supposed to be freshening up, not sneaking up on me."

Brandon only chuckled as his breath warm brushed against the side of her neck. "I did freshen up. You just looked too tempting to ignore."

His fingers trailed lazily across her stomach before his thumb found its way to her belly button.

He pressed against it, gently teasing her belly button as he leaned in closer.

Ravene's breath hitched slightly, feeling his fingers teasing her belly button, and her grip on the spoon faltered for just a moment before she recovered.

"Kael..."

He chuckled and dipped his head so that his lips hovered just near the shell of her ear. "Yes?"

"You know exactly what," she replied, though she did not push him away.

Brandon chuckled, enjoying her reactions far too much.

Slowly, he let his lips graze the side of her neck, just beneath her ear.. placing a small kiss there.

Reven's body tensed slightly before she exhaled as her shoulders relaxed under his touch. "You're such a pervert..."

"Mm," Brandon hummed against her skin, trailing a few more soft kisses down the curve of her neck as his lips brushed over the spot where her shoulder met her collarbone.

His arms tightened slightly around her waist, pulling her back more firmly against him "And yet, you haven't pushed me away."

Instead of responding, she reached for one of the mugs and poured the freshly brewed coffee, all while still allowing him to hold her.

Finally, she turned her head slightly, just enough so that her black eyes met his blue ones.

There was something playful in her gaze, a knowing glint that told him she was well aware of what he was trying to do.

Brandon smiled, leaning down slightly so that his lips hovered just over hers "Are you going to kiss me, or are you going to make me work for it?"

Reven exhaled softly and her lips curved into a small smirk before she turned fully in his embrace.

She placed a hand against his chest, before tilting her chin up just enough to meet him halfway.

The kiss was slow.. like one of those lazy morning kisses, where neither of them was in any rush to break away.

Brandon deepened the kiss, savoring the feel of her lips against his as she responded with equal softness.

After a few seconds, Ravene was the first to pull away, though not by much.

Her lips were still just a breath away from his as she smirked "Now, if you're done distracting me, maybe I can finally finish making your coffee."

Brandon let out a soft chuckle as he brushed his nose against hers "Why the hurry.."

Ravene rolled her eyes before turning back to the counter and poured the second cup of coffee as if nothing had happened.

But the small, satisfied smile on her lips told him she had enjoyed it just as much as he had.

"By the way, Kael.. you just kissed me now, did you feel the ether energy flowing in your body?"

Brandon let her go for a little and nodded his head "Yeah..."

With a thoughtful look, she handed over the cup of coffee to him, and he also took it in his hands.

Moving a little, she sat on top of the counter while Brandon stood beside her, still holding his coffee, but before he could take another sip...

She opened her legs and, without hesitation, wrapped them around his waist, pulling him closer to him..

"Just wondering... why it only triggers on a kiss."

With a shake of his head Brandon spoke "I thought about that too,,," as his fingers absentmindedly ran over the soft skin of her legs where they rested against his waist.

"But when I hugged you just now, I felt your ether energy flowing into me. I didn't notice it before...

Ravene's eyes narrowed slightly, "But was it as strong as when we kissed?"

Brandon shook his head. "No. It was there, but it was much weaker compared to when we were kissing."

Hearing this, Ravene's gaze squinted "I see... maybe... as the level of physical intimacy increases, the amount of ether energy you absorb becomes stronger?"

"Like, if we just held hands or had minimal skin contact, you'd get ether energy... but at a much lower level."

"But something like kissing, which is a deeper form of physical connection, increases the energy transfer exponentially."

Brandon gave a nod "That makes sense... the energy spike is so noticeable when we kiss but not as much with a simple touch."

Letting out a giggle, she spoke "Being the only guy who can even use ether isn't enough... you have to have a weird way of absorbing it too."

"Hmm.. we should conduct tests on this."

Brandon nodded his head and at this time Ravene uttered "Well, I have a theory... about your ether absorbing ability."

Brandon raised an eyebrow "Tell me, what is it?"

"A theory where the ether signature you absorb will not fade away with time."
