Getting Stronger By Fighting-Chapter 486: Eating Alone_1
The Federal Human Race was never an easy species to defeat. The endless trump cards they possessed... They rivaled, or perhaps even surpassed, the Beast Clan in this regard! Otherwise, how could a single, small planet have dragged the entire mighty Beast Clan into a protracted war with the Federation that spanned decades? This alone was sufficient proof.
Therefore, in reality, the impact of these cannon fodder was insignificant compared to even the slightest whim of the Beast Clan’s distant rulers. Even these insignificant beasts, who could only hope to threaten the giant snake and thereby grasp at a sliver of hope for survival, could not even manage this much. Naturally, their terror and panic only intensified.
Then, a voice, somewhat raspy and dry, yet capable of evoking boundless cold and dread, echoed. In the field, all present, whether human or beast, instantly felt a terrifying tide of fear completely erupt!
Wherever the beasts who had gathered to watch the spectacle were located, huge shadows silently appeared, one after another. Then, the Snake Shadow was seen spreading, seemingly intending to ensnare everything before it. No one could discern the giant snake’s expression, for its triangular head and forked tongue were enough to demonstrate its power and ferocity to the remaining audience. It offered no beast any chance of escape, instead tyrannically blocking the path of every single one.
Then, amidst the subtle writhing of the shadows, it spoke to the assembled beasts, its tone so indifferent it was devoid of any emotional inflection. "Don’t blame me! Blame your own bad luck! Even the Federation’s people know that spectating is a vice. Why are you all so foolish as to not understand even this?"
Wang Zhan heard this, his eyes flickering.
He initially felt that this ’long worm’ accusation was perhaps a bit excessive. After all, when had merely watching the excitement become such a foolish act in the Federation? But on reflection, the snake wasn’t wrong. Watching the excitement indeed came at a price; it all depended on how steep that price might be—potentially even one’s own life. Of course, the more these creatures struggled, the more Wang Zhan relished the spectacle; the chaos only added to his amusement. The idea of joining forces with these beasts to first confront the giant snake, only to then turn around and duel them, struck Wang Zhan as utterly absurd and foolish! After all, to him, it was nothing short of a joke. Since he had already decided to extract the snake’s heart, refine its blood, and seize its Talent, could there be any room for reconciliation between him and the snake? Not to mention, their respective positions as human and beast alone dictated that their relationship was destined to be one of mortal enmity. Therefore, if that was the case even with the long worm, then the deaths of these lesser beasts were even less of a concern; perhaps Wang Zhan could even enjoy a hearty meal and a bountiful harvest from them. Since both sides were enemies, who had ever heard of someone allying with their own food, or with the rival of their food, to jointly confront their food or its rival? The notion was preposterous. Clearly, the most sensible approach was to watch the tigers fight from a safe distance, to observe the conflict from afar! Of course, Wang Zhan wouldn’t deny that one reason he hadn’t intervened immediately was the unbridgeable divide between humans and beasts; they were destined to be irreconcilable foes. The other was the sheer number of the long worm’s clones present. There were so many, it was as if it were scattering them about with abandon, as if they cost nothing. Although every clone possessed almost identical strength, it still made Wang Zhan wary. If one clone was manageable, ten clones were certainly demonic. Moreover, the long worm before him had deployed at least twenty or thirty clones. This meant that even if it did nothing but a simple sum, Wang Zhan might have to face twenty or thirty long worms simultaneously. In this situation, although Wang Zhan was mature for his age, he certainly had no desire to die young! Therefore, he forced himself to remain suspended in mid-air, maintaining distance from the long worm while staying vigilant. Moreover, he had to continue waiting, biding his time to discern this long worm’s true capabilities. Otherwise, it would be highly inadvisable for him to act recklessly.
And the giant snake, like a hunter patiently waiting for its prey, seized its chance.
And so, just as Wang Zhan stood by, observing with cold detachment, the first unfortunate candidate met its end!
To the northeast, a small, hedgehog-like beast, distinguished only by its human-like face and coat of golden hair, was targeted. But when the long worm’s shadow completely enveloped its body, consuming it bit by bit as if it were a meal, it wasn’t long before a violent shriek, filled with endless pain and terror, abruptly tore through the air. This sound wasn’t metallic, nor did it possess much force; rather, it was agile and piercingly clear, like the cry of a small child.
However, it was precisely this scream that instantly made all the trapped and surrounded beasts realize one undeniable fact: The long worm was truly going for the kill! Even though they were all beasts, just like the long worm, they were now slaughtering each other! Even when they all believed that the long worm, regardless of whatever earth-shattering secrets it might possess, would never dare defy the will of the Beast Clan’s upper echelons, this vile and hateful giant snake, however, used its actions to deliver its one, unequivocal answer.
"Die!"
Hence, these once audacious and wicked beasts truly began to feel anxious. The terror in their hearts, like a swamp during the rainy season, quickly swelled until it submerged everything within moments.
Thus, one of them, a strange bird species whose strength was comparable to the hedgehog that had just perished—both roughly equivalent to lower-tier King-level beasts—immediately shrieked at the long worm, "Giant snake! You’re insane!! Have you gone completely mad?! Do you have any idea what the consequences will be if you kill us? Your clan will be exterminated, your descendants eradicated! The galls of your kin will no longer be found on any battlefield! Even in the ancestral records, the shadow of your clan will vanish...!" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Undoubtedly, in the world of the Beast Clan, this was a threat of immense deterrent power to any clan. Beasts themselves did not fear death in battle, for their lineage was destined to endure. However, this continuation was a right they naturally enjoyed as members of the Beast Clan! Therefore, if things reached the point the strange bird described, it was tantamount to a clan being forcibly expunged from the Beast Clan’s official lineage. Even if encountered in the future, they would be treated merely as wild beasts. At that point, even if some powerful entity called for their slaughter, not a single soul would dare to object or utter a word of dissent!
However, it wasn’t just the strange bird that voiced such grave and solemn threats to the giant snake. The pronouncements of other beasts were, to a large extent, variations on the same theme. For instance, a large, three-horned rooster also roared furiously at the long worm, "Long worm, if you dare kill me today! While my clan may not exterminate yours, I guarantee this: from this day forward, for all generations, year after year, your entire clan will become mere snacks for my Three-Footed Clan! This will be an unending fate...!"
Others, while maintaining a tough exterior, had clearly begun to grasp the direness of their situation and hastily berated it, "Long worm, I’m giving you one last chance! Let me go! If you do, all enmity between us will be wiped clean, and I swear no one will ever bring this up to you again! Otherwise, your doom is near...!"
However, how could they know that even if their boasts reached the heavens, even if they invoked the ancestors of their own clans or the supreme Rulers of the Beast Clan, it meant nothing to the long worm.
Threaten its clan? A joke. The giant snake didn’t even know what its own clan or species was, nor had it ever encountered another truly of its own kind. Yet these... beasts before it, still in a primitive state of consuming raw flesh and blood, dared to posture so arrogantly in its presence! As for them helping it find a backer? The giant snake could only sneer internally at these foolish creatures. For the giant snake, as long as it could leverage its own power and completely devour Wang Zhan’s potential military merit for itself, why would it need others to scheme on its behalf? Moreover, did they truly believe it had entangled itself with Wang Zhan and his ilk merely for the ’small wish’ of finding a powerful patron? No! What it had always wanted was to monopolize the prize. To rely on no one but its own strength, to seize a monumental military merit, and thus to achieve meteoric success—all for itself! So, these creatures’ petty threats? The giant snake truly couldn’t care less. After all, given the strength it currently displayed, even if it found a powerful backer, its bloodline meant it was unlikely to secure a truly great one. At best, it might be sponsored by a royal-level beast. It would much rather choose its own path and, if the opportunity arose, usurp such a position for itself.
