Ghost Catching System-Chapter 701 - 700: The Toad’s Backing_1
Chu Hao found it strange how the toad had managed to find him in Anli City.
"I asked Li Yin," said the toad.
Guests should be welcomed, and since Chu Hao wasn't clear on the toad's relationship with Zi Jing, he arranged a place for Zi Jing to rest.
Zi Jing really was a child, fixated on beautiful sights and tasty food, especially the delicious barbecue.
Chu Hao then asked, "How have you survived the past month? Didn't she say she was going to burn you?"
The toad sighed deeply. "It's a long story, Kiddo Chu. You actually didn't save His Majesty. I heard from Zi Jing that you ran away with your tail between your legs? Despicable."
Damn! Chu Hao thought. Brother Hao was blown away at the time.
Chu Hao asked, "What's her story, anyway? That large and small gourd gave me quite a rough time."
The toad whispered, "His Majesty isn't afraid of that girl, but she has a grandfather who really gave me a hard time—I almost couldn't make it back."
So, Zi Jing has a grandfather too, Chu Hao mused.
Chu Hao said, "Where is her grandfather then! How did you get to Anli City? You certainly can't take a commercial flight!"
The toad scoffed, "Just a minor trick."
All of a sudden, Chu Hao became vigilant and asked, "So what do you mean by bringing her to me?"
After thinking, the toad spoke softly, "Are you stupid? With her grandfather being so powerful, of course, we need to curry favor. The Human World is undergoing such big changes; who knows what might happen any day now. We need a reliable support."
Chu Hao was startled and asked, "How powerful is her grandfather?"
The toad said, "Probably on par with the Heavenly Bone Woman. In any case, enough to scare you to death."
Chu Hao was skeptical. "Could it really be that mysterious?"
"Of course, he is powerful," whispered the toad. "Just mentioning his name could cause strange occurrences—how's that for powerful?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
F*** me sideways! The Human World has such beings? Isn't that just like the Queen Mother of the West? Chu Hao thought.
The toad said, "Zi Jing wanted to come out and have some fun, so His Majesty brought her out."
Chu Hao eyed the toad skeptically and guessed, "You couldn't escape on your own, could you?"
The toad suddenly didn't want to talk anymore. That was indeed the case; he had used this opportunity to escape.
Feeling annoyed, the toad said, "His Majesty has noticed you've become somewhat smarter all of a sudden, 'human pet'."
Chu Hao kicked him without hesitation.
The toad dodged and then bit at him, causing Chu Hao to yell in pain before he fiercely slapped the toad away.
The toad was sent flying into the wall where he stuck fast, unable to get down, screeching in anger.
At that moment, Zi Jing came out and said, "I'm hungry."
She had just devoured the barbecue so quickly, and she was still hungry? Chu Hao was speechless.
The toad quickly distanced himself from Chu Hao and said, "Little Adult Zi Jing, I'll take you to eat. 'Human pet,' lead the way already."
"Get lost!" Chu Hao snapped, but in the end, he still took Zi Jing to Pizza Hut.
Zi Jing ate with such joy. Chu Hao asked, "Zi Jing, you're out having fun. Isn't your grandfather worried about you?"
Zi Jing shook her head and said, "Where Zi Jing wants to go, Zi Jing goes."
Chu Hao broke into a smile. "Did you guys escape?"
Zi Jing looked a bit nervous, her small, tender white face looking like water could be squeezed from it. She glared at the toad with her big, round eyes.
The toad quickly said, "His Majesty said nothing."
Zi Jing huffed, "Grandfather is so mean! He doesn't play with me at all, only caring about studying those flowers and plants. It's so boring." This little girl is starting to vent her grievances about her own grandfather, Chu Hao thought.
Just then, Chu Hao received a call from Lan Zhen. She informed him that the location had changed. Lan Zhen had been preparing for a long time and was being extremely cautious, determined to make sure everything was foolproof.
Chu Hao hung up the phone and said, "I have something to do tomorrow, so I won't be joining you guys. Have fun on your own."
Zi Jing glared at the toad. "Didn't you say Big Brother is always so free?"
The toad quickly said, "Zi Jing, don't listen to his nonsense. What could he be busy with? Kiddo Chu, what are you up to? We'll go with you."
What did this girl and the toad want? Were they trying to get tangled up with him? Chu Hao wondered. He felt there was definitely something more to this, but he wasn't a psychic and couldn't guess.
Chu Hao said, "The place I'm going to is very dangerous; you guys shouldn't follow."
Zi Jing, though small, acted like a little adult. "Hmph! How dangerous can it be? My Treasure Gourds are very powerful."
The toad, like a sycophantic servant, said, "Exactly! Zi Jing's Treasure Gourds are amazing. Her joining you is a blessing from your past life's good karma; you should be thanking her profusely!"
Chu Hao felt a toothache coming on; he really wanted to punch the toad. "Sycophantic servant," he muttered.
The toad bounced up, angrily saying, "Who are you calling that?"
Zi Jing said, "Toad, Big Brother is calling you a servant. A servant is a person, so you should be the pet."
The toad suddenly felt his own toothache coming on.
Chu Hao asked, "Why did you suddenly come back?" The more he looked at the toad, the more annoyed he became.
The toad huffed, "Why can't I come back? Anyway, Kiddo Chu, what are you planning to do? You're not letting us join because you must have found some treasure. Zi Jing, I'm telling you, this guy is loaded with treasures. I bet he's going to raid a tomb."
Chu Hao said, "Get lost! You're the tomb raider."
Zi Jing's eyes lit up, and she danced with excitement. "Tomb raiding? Zi Jing wants to go on a big adventure too! I'm going, I'm going! If you don't let us, Toad and I will go tomb raiding on our own!"
Now, the toad was speechless and forced a smile. "Zi Jing, tomb raiding isn't fun at all."
Zi Jing stared with her big, round eyes. "You can't tell me what to do!"
Chu Hao stroked his chin and said, "As it happens, I do know a good place for tomb raiding, where the Heaven and Earth Ancestral Veins are."
The toad protested desperately, "Kiddo Chu, don't trap me! Are we even capable of raiding a tomb of the Heaven and Earth Ancestral Veins?"
Clearly, the toad was genuinely afraid of Zi Jing going tomb raiding. Ever since he had brought her out, he feared she would do something outrageous. If her grandfather found out the toad had taken her tomb raiding, the toad might well end up skinned and deep-fried.
In the end, the toad threatened Chu Hao to drop the subject of tomb raiding, fearing Zi Jing might drag him off to do it, which would be disastrous.
Only then did Chu Hao reveal that he was going to deal with the Golden-Wood Drought Fiend.
The toad's eyes brightened. "The Golden-Wood Drought Fiend! Its Jinmu Core sounds interesting."
Chu Hao said, "I'm joining forces with others."
The toad said contemptuously, "You're usually so smart, Kiddo Chu. How could you be so dumb now? Those people are giving you Merit for the Underworld. What use is that to you? Planning to be reborn as a human in your next life?"
Chu Hao replied with a side-eye, "Nonsense. If I'm not a human in my next life, should I become a toad?"
The toad nearly leapt at him, grinding its teeth. "You're discriminating against me!"
However, Chu Hao wasn't actually going for the Underworld Merit. Explaining his real reasons would be lost on the toad, so he chose not to.
The toad suggested, "Why don't the three of us join forces? What's so scary about the Golden-Wood Drought Fiend? There's no need to cooperate with them."
Zi Jing also said, "Exactly, Zi Jing is really powerful."
Chu Hao waved his hand. "You wouldn't understand even if I told you."
The toad immediately said, "Zi Jing, let's you and I team up. Forget this silly kiddo. We'll split the loot later."
Chu Hao, feeling a headache, said, "I'll let you come along, but you'll have to follow my plans."
Zi Jing was overjoyed and immediately said she wanted another order from Pizza Hut.
What a little foodie, Chu Hao thought.
