Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Wade And Christina

"So," he grinned, "have you gotten together with any of the girls yet?"

Lana froze. "...What?"

She shook her head slowly, utterly confused.

Wade’s grin widened. "That’s perfect. I have a sister. You’ll definitely like her."

At that moment, Lana was completely speechless.

Wade continued enthusiastically,

"I can tell what kind of girls you like. I’ll set you two up on a date. If we can’t be girlfriend and boyfriend, then being in-laws isn’t bad either. At least I won’t feel like I missed out."

Silence.

Absolute, suffocating silence.

Everyone stared at Wade.

’This man’s confidence is terrifying,’ someone thought.

Lana coughed lightly. "I already... have someone I like."

The room went dead quiet.

Every gaze snapped toward her, burning with curiosity, silently urging her to continue.

She didn’t. Disappointment flickered openly on several faces.

On Lana’s shoulder, Mr. Crow was seething.

’This master... truly the most clueless one I have ever seen.’

She was sitting in a den of vultures, all waiting for their chance. Betty, Layla, Wade, Richard, and even that Quinn. None of them was safe. Then there was Naina. And Lucian.

Her ability to attract people was frightening.

Gender didn’t matter. They were all drawn to her.

Taking a deep breath, Mr. Crow spoke through their link, his tone sharp. ’Create some distance. None of these people have good intentions.’

Lana laughed lightly in her heart. ’Does that include you too?’

Mr. Crow fell silent.

For the first time, he realized he was no different.

A pot calling the kettle black. With a quiet sigh, he chose not to respond.

Let it be. It wasn’t as if he could do anything about it anyway.

When Mr. Crow fell silent, Lana couldn’t help but laugh softly. The sound was light, almost teasing, as she leaned closer and murmured,

"Are you upset? I know I’m wrong. My Mr. Crow doesn’t have any ulterior motives."

As she spoke, her fingers reached up instinctively, rubbing the feathers atop Mr. Crow’s head in a gentle, comforting motion.

The warmth of her touch carried familiarity, as if she were soothing an old habit rather than a living being. She thought he was upset by her words.

In truth, Mr. Crow felt something far heavier.

Guilt weighed down on his chest like a stone. Her words weren’t wrong.

They were painfully accurate. He drew in a slow breath, feathers ruffling faintly, just as he was about to change the subject...

"Enough already," Betty snapped, suddenly grabbing Wade by the collar and dragging him away. "You’re getting more and more out of hand."

Wade struggled instinctively, feet scraping lightly against the floor as he craned his neck toward Lana.

"Hey! Lana! My sister’s name is Christina!"

His words landed like a thunderclap.

"Yes," Wade continued hurriedly, "the teacher from just now. That Christina. She’s knowledgeable, powerful, and a mystic cultivator!"

Lana froze. Her mind went blank for a moment.

’...He dared?’

She stared at Wade in disbelief. The person either was stupid or perhaps had no sense of crisis at all.

To think he dared to set her up with Christina of all people. Lana couldn’t help wondering how on earth someone like Christina could have a sibling like Wade.

It was only much later that she learned the truth.

They weren’t biologically related at all.

As Wade was forcibly dragged away, still shouting protests, Lana seized the chance to slip away quietly.

She moved toward the teachers’ office, footsteps light against the polished floor, the faint scent of old paper and incense growing stronger as she approached.

Once there, she went straight to Axel’s office.

Her intention was simple: to hand over his share of the talismans, along with those meant for the other teachers.

The moment Axel saw her, a smile curved onto his face.

His office resembled that of a general manager more than a teacher’s workspace.

Floor-to-ceiling tinted glass windows filtered the sunlight into a muted glow. Black walls contrasted sharply with pristine white floors, while a wooden desk topped with a glass slab stood neatly arranged.

Documents lay organized with precise care, a pen stand resting quietly to one side. The steady hum of the air conditioner filled the silence like distant breathing.

Axel leaned back in his black chair and looked at her with evident warmth. "What brings you here, genius?"

His tone softened unconsciously as he spoke.

"I came to give you something," Lana replied without hesitation. She stepped forward and placed a talisman gently on the table.

Then she straightened and met his gaze sincerely.

"For now, I can only offer basic exorcism talismans. But one day, I’ll definitely repay your kindness... especially for that advanced teleportation talisman."

Axel stared at the talisman, surprise flickering across his face.

He hadn’t expected this.

A student, no, a genius student, connected closely enough to a talisman practitioner to obtain even basic exorcism talismans.

From that alone, Axel deduced that Lana’s friend was likely a newcomer from the talisman department. Instead of envy, delight welled up in his heart on her behalf.

She needed allies. Powerful ones.

Considering her background and the difficulties her previous family might stir up for her, Axel often found himself worrying.

He had even gone as far as seriously requesting his own force to quietly help Lana survive, though he never told her any of this.

What Lana didn’t know was that behind the scenes, the Almond family had attempted more than once to act against her. Each attempt failed miserably, thanks to Axel and Lucian.

But Lana lived in the present.

As Axel examined the exorcism talisman, Lana hesitated briefly, then thought about the other teachers. Compared to them, she was far more familiar with Axel. He had repeatedly looked out for her.

After a moment’s consideration, she took out several more talismans and slid them across the table.

Axel’s heart trembled the instant he saw them.

Enhanced hearing talismans.

Basic energy recovery talismans. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Aura-hiding talismans.

Even basic cleansing talismans.

He looked up sharply, shock evident in his eyes. "Do you even know the value of these?"

Lana shook her head lightly. "They’re only basic-level talismans. Anyone below the yellow rank would find them useful, but that’s all."
