Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 221: Almond Family’s Invitation
Fay met her gaze calmly. "Are you a God’s Angel member?"
The moment those words left her mouth, the room turned icy. Faces stiffened.
Even Lana stared at Fay, expression unreadable. "What are you saying?" she asked flatly.
Fay shrugged. "I’m not lying. It’s strange, isn’t it? You know things none of us do. What if you staged everything just to gain our trust?"
Lana let out a soft chuckle. "So that’s what you think."
Fay smiled faintly. "Before you appeared, we never experienced anything like this. How can we not doubt you?"
Quinn, who had remained silent until now, spoke calmly, "If you don’t have a brain, then stay quiet."
Fay’s fists clenched as she glared at him. "I never thought you’d be blinded too."
With that, she turned and stormed out of the Mystic Department.
Lana watched her retreating back without a word. Mr. Crow leaned closer. "Do you think she’s a God’s Angel member?"
Lana shook her head slowly, her tone utterly calm. "Unlikely. She’s just acting out of jealousy."
She returned to her seat as though nothing had happened.
That evening, after her lectures ended, Lana accepted a mission. This one was located in a well-known residential area. Just as she stepped out of the university grounds, someone blocked her path.
It was a familiar face.
Brenda.
Lana rolled her eyes and tried to walk past her, but Brenda blocked her again and again. Lana inhaled deeply. "What do you want?"
Brenda smiled softly. "I’m here to take you back to the mansion."
Lana chuckled coldly. "What scheme is the Almond family plotting this time?"
Brenda snorted. "My parents are just feeling generous."
Even as she spoke, there was no conviction in her voice.
The truth was, just the previous night, the Almond family had held a tense discussion. Despite their repeated attempts, they had failed to kill Lana. Every single one of them had their own motive.
Mr. and Mrs. Almond were consumed by hatred toward the girl who had constantly disappointed them, even going so far as to influence their three sons.
There was also a deeply personal reason buried beneath that hatred. Atleast that is what they had presented.
As for the three brothers, with memories of their past life intact, their resentment toward Lana burned fiercely.
In that life, Lana had acted arrogantly and had taken ruthless revenge against the Almond family, making them suffer dearly.
This time, they wanted to eliminate her before she could become an even greater obstacle.
However, aside from targeting Lana, they also had their own affairs to manage, which was why their plans had dragged on until now.
When they finally understood that Lana’s connections were far beyond anything they could contend with, despair quietly settled over them.
One by one, their confidence crumbled. It wasn’t just one mysterious force standing behind Lana; there were too many.
There was Monk Anaro and the principal of Shadow Ridge University, whose authority alone was enough to make most people tremble.
There was also a powerful family from one of the top-tier states, a presence so overwhelming that even hearing their name was enough to make others lower their heads.
The moment the truth surfaced, all of them nearly buckled.
’How could one person be protected by so many?’ They had never imagined that Lana would be guarded on so many fronts.
Even Brenda, upon learning about Lana’s connections, was consumed by hatred.
What truly fueled that hatred was something her own mentor had once told her... that everything Lana possessed should have belonged to Brenda, if only their lives hadn’t been switched at birth.
That single notion gnawed at her relentlessly, turning envy into something far uglier.
Yet Brenda understood one crucial thing. She could no longer afford to show that hatred on her face.
’Not yet.’ If she wanted to destroy Lana, she would have to get closer first, build trust, and only then discard her when the time was right.
Lana, however, sensed the shift immediately. Even without knowing what the Almond family had discovered, she was certain of one thing: for them to send Brenda as an intermediary, their intentions could not possibly be good.
Taking a slow breath, Lana looked directly at Brenda and shook her head lightly. "You’re really easy to manipulate. Looks like the Almond family have gained a lapdog."
The words stabbed straight into Brenda’s pride. Her expression twisted as she pointed at Lana.
"You’re acting like you’re above everyone else," she snapped. "How can you talk about the Almond family like this? How dare you smear your own parents? They raised you for eighteen years. At least show some gratitude... no, twenty years, at least!"
Lana let out a soft, amused chuckle, her eyes cold despite the smile on her lips.
"I already showed my gratitude," she replied calmly.
"I gave them money. That’s more than enough." Her tone sharpened slightly.
"I don’t see any reason to return to that mansion. We’ve already signed the severance agreement. From now on, we should let go of each other cordially."
She leaned in just enough for her words to sink deep. "Otherwise, the revenge that was once meant to be painless won’t stay gentle. This time, it’ll be sharper. And far more unpleasant."
Faced with Lana’s cheerful expression paired with such icy words, Brenda instinctively took a step back, a flicker of fear flashing through her eyes.
Lana’s aura was overwhelming, pressing down on her like an invisible weight.
That was exactly why Brenda often held herself back, even when resentment burned fiercely in her chest.
Lana wasn’t fragile like a porcelain doll, ignorant of the world’s schemes. Nor was she one of those calculating, sugar-coated manipulators who relied on others to climb higher.
Lana was different. She relied on herself. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Though she appeared courteous toward men, she never expected support from them, nor did she factor them into her plans. She stood firmly on her own, independent and unyielding.
And that was what made her truly terrifying.
