Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Saved?

After classes ended, she went to accept a mission as usual.

But today, the moment she arrived, she saw Faye standing there as well.

Lana’s lips twitched.

Betty and Layla, who had come along since this mission was part of their assignment, immediately sensed something strange.

Even if Faye wanted to take a mission, she wouldn’t normally stand there blankly, staring at the kiosk as if her mind was elsewhere.

Sure enough, the moment Lana selected a mission, Faye cut in sharply. "I’m interested in this mission."

That was enough.

Lana turned and stared at her. "What will it take for you to stop this childish behavior?"

Faye chuckled. "I’m not being childish. I’m just acting exactly how you expect me to."

Lana smiled faintly. "And from which angle did I ever ask you to mistreat me or steal my missions?"

Faye crossed her arms. "It’s not your words. It’s your attitude. Why don’t you just accept it? You’re a GA member."

She leaned closer. "As long as you admit the truth, I’ll stop targeting you."

Lana rolled her eyes. "I would accept it," she replied calmly. "If it were true."

Her gaze sharpened. "But it isn’t. So why should I?"

By now, a huge crowd had gathered around Lana and Faye, their faces lit with obvious amusement as they eagerly watched the confrontation unfold.

Lana noticed it immediately.

Her jaw tightened, teeth grinding softly as she took a slow, steady breath, forcing down the wave of inner disgust rising in her chest.

’This isn’t the place... and this isn’t worth it.’

"I want to take a mission," she said calmly, her voice even despite the tension crawling under her skin.

Faye opened her mouth, clearly about to retort, when Betty suddenly stepped forward and leaned close to her, whispering something into her ear.

Faye stiffened.

Her gaze flicked toward the surrounding crowd, and only then did she truly register just how many people were watching. Her lips pressed into a thin line, and she fell silent.

Seeing that no fight was going to break out, the disappointed crowd slowly dispersed, grumbling under their breath as they left.

However, rumors did not leave with them.

By evening, whispers had already spread across the entire university that a GA member had infiltrated the campus.

Ignoring the rumors, Lana finally accepted a mission. With Faye no longer interrupting her, things went smoothly this time.

The mission reward made her pause.

"Two hundred credits...?"

Honestly, she never thought she would see a mission worth two hundred credits under a D-Rank difficulty. Normally, someone of her low rank wouldn’t even qualify to view such a mission.

But she was given an exception.

The reason was simple... her yellow mystic energy.

The moment she accepted the mission and received the equipment bag, Lana nearly froze.

The bag was enormous.

It was almost as big as half a human body, its weight pressing heavily against her shoulder. For a moment, she just stood there, stunned, before recalling the mission details.

The assignment was located in the suburban area of the city. Her task was to escort a group of people who were trapped in a cluster of suburban villas and safely lead them back into the city.

They had been stuck there because of a twenty-year-old ghost and were unable to leave.

With the bag slung over her back, Lana set off and soon arrived at the suburban district.

The moment she approached the villa, her steps slowed.

The entire structure was shrouded in thick black and red energy, swirling ominously like living smoke.

The air felt cold and heavy, carrying a faint, rotten stench that made her skin prickle.

Mr. Crow closed his eyes, his feathers trembling slightly as he sensed the surroundings. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"There’s a ghost inside," he said grimly. "Twenty-two years old."

Lana froze. "How capable am I right now?" she asked quietly. "How much can I handle?"

Mr. Crowe did not hesitate.

"You unknowingly crossed four levels. You’re already midway through the yellow rank."

Her eyes widened. "Midway...?"

He continued calmly,

"With this level of growth, you’ll soon be able to deal with ghosts that are thirty to forty years old. This one is easy for you."

Lana relaxed slightly, but she did not let her guard down.

’If it’s only a twenty-two-year-old ghost... then why hasn’t anyone else rescued them?’

The doubt gnawed at her.

If the people inside were capable of posting a rescue mission on the university forum, then they must have had decent connections. So why were they still trapped?

With those questions swirling in her mind, Lana stepped into the villa.

There were no guards.

That alone spoke volumes about how desperate the situation had become.

The only saving grace was the formation engraved around the villa.

It glimmered faintly, protecting the building from accumulating negative energy. Because of that, Lana understood why the people inside had managed to survive until now.

They likely had never left the villa at all.

As she walked in, she was met with an unexpected sight.

There were many people inside.

Too many.

They looked almost as if they had been here for a party. Music equipment lay scattered, empty cups cluttered the tables, and yet... something felt terribly wrong.

All of them were young, no older than twenty or twenty-one.

The moment Lana entered, every single person turned to look at her.

Their eyes were filled with worry and exhaustion.

It was only then that Lana truly noticed how thin they were. Their faces were pale, their frames frail, as if a strong gust of wind could knock them over.

One of them stood up shakily. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice rough and dry.

"I’m here to help," Lana replied evenly. "I’m from ShadowRidge University."

The moment those words left her mouth, the atmosphere changed completely.

Hope flared in their eyes.

They stared at her as if they were looking at their savior, even without Lana saying anything.

"Thank god! We are saved!"
