Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Sophia’s Move

In her previous life, Selena had used that blood as a stepping stone, rising like a phoenix among the sparrows.

From a merely respectable family, she elevated herself into an ultra-wealthy, old-money lineage because of that blood.

Everyone praised her. Everyone adored her.

"Goddess blood doesn’t seem to have many obvious abilities," Lana murmured, "at least none that I know of. But immunity to curses alone is already terrifying."

She added quietly, "If Selena had children, they should’ve inherited traces of that blood, making them extraordinary among their peers."

Her gaze sharpened. "And that’s the shocking part."

Later on, Selena did marry one of the richest heirs and had children.

Yet none of those children showed any signs of possessing goddess blood. Doubts arose. Whispers spread.

Even her own children began to resent her, suspecting her of deception.

Lana shook her head. "In any case, curses are useless against her." Her voice steadied. "For now, silence is our only option."

Mr. Crow rolled his eyes. "Maybe in the future, we’ll awaken even greater power."

Lana chuckled. "That’s fine. Even if you don’t awaken anything new, I’ll just study bad-luck talisman and apply them to her instead."

Mr. Crow shook his head helplessly. "Humans understand far too little about goddess blood." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Lana frowned slightly.

"Then does goddess blood have more meaning?" she asked.

"Do you know anything else about it? Its origin, its true benefits, or any way to awaken it?"

Mr. Crow shook his head slowly.

"There’s no historical record of goddess blood ever being awakened." His tone turned serious. "To this day, no one knows why certain people possess it."

After a brief pause, he added,

"Unless someone conducts extremely deep research, down to the very essence of their blood, this mystery may never be solved."

Lana merely shrugged, her expression calm but distant.

"People with goddess blood are revered too highly," she replied. "No one would ever dare experiment on them."

Mr. Crow nodded in agreement. "That’s indeed the case."

After a brief pause, he continued,

"As for the other uses of goddess blood, they are considered superior beings. If someone with such blood embarks on the path of becoming a priest, they can directly converse with the goddess herself."

Lana’s eyes widened in disbelief, her breath hitching slightly. "How is that even possible?"

Mr. Crow’s voice remained steady and certain.

"I know this for sure. It is possible, but the requirement is strict. They must maintain a deep connection with the goddess, worship her daily, and communicate with absolute sincerity. Otherwise, even with the blood, they won’t attract the goddess’s attention."

He continued, his tone turning more serious.

"Not only that. Goddess blood is so pure that if it is fed to another person, there is even a chance of curing curses. A cursed individual can be healed using goddess blood."

Lana’s pupils shrank. "That’s... possible?" The words slipped out instinctively, but halfway through, she paused.

She gestured for him to continue.

Mr. Crow went on,

"Aside from that, goddess blood is extremely useful. Even a drop is enough. If you dilute it into a spray and apply it to yourself, you could enter mystic realm safely. The beasts there would avoid you, and many traps could be bypassed simply because of the blood’s scent."

Lana was stunned, her fingers unconsciously tightening. ’That kind of advantage... it’s absurd.’

"There are many more benefits," Mr. Crow added.

"I can’t recall all of them in detail, but one thing is certain. Goddess blood is so valuable that countless forces have fought over it. Yet, no one has ever found a person who inherited it at a hundred percent. Otherwise, that person might already be worshipped as a goddess."

Lana straightened immediately. "Then can you check me?" she asked without hesitation. "Even if it’s just a trace."

Mr. Crow was taken aback. "Why would you think you have it?"

Lana’s gaze turned deep and unreadable. "What if... my cousin stole it from me?" she said slowly.

"That would explain why she treated me the way she did."

She waited in silence.

Mr. Crow shook his head. "From what I know, you don’t have it. I already performed a detection on you before."

Lana frowned. "What if it only activated recently?"

Mr. Crow felt she was being childish, but seeing the stubborn look in her eyes, he sighed inwardly.

’Fine.’ He closed his eyes again and extended his senses.

He peered into Lana’s soul. It was transparent, clean, with only a faint hint of white light flickering at its edges.

After a brief inspection, he opened his eyes. "You don’t have goddess blood."

What he did not notice was that at the exact moment he withdrew his gaze, that faint white flicker around Lana’s soul began to grow, bit by bit.

It was so slow and subtle that even Mr. Crow missed it entirely.

Lana let out a soft sigh. "If only I had it," she murmured. "I would’ve definitely tested its uses."

Mr. Crow snorted lightly. "So what if you don’t have it? That doesn’t mean I can’t get some for you."

Lana looked at him in confusion. "Get some?"

Mr. Crow smiled faintly and flew away.

"That cousin of yours harmed you. In this life, she won’t escape paying interest."

Lana still looked puzzled, but she did not press further.

She returned to the banquet hall, mingling briefly before the familiar exhaustion crept back in.

By then, she had noticed something.

While she was gone, Sophia had clearly been mocking Betty.

Now that Lana was back, Sophia seemed restrained.

Lana decided she would stay beside Betty for the time being.

Betty, on the other hand, was filled with gratitude.

’Lana is truly good to me,’ she thought. ’Once I gain authority in my family, I’ll definitely do something for her.’

Just then, Betty noticed Sophia leaning toward a waiter, whispering something softly.

Her eyes narrowed instantly.

She knew that whenever Sophia whispered like that, trouble was sure to follow, either for her or for those around her.
