Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 137 - 131: Huge Harvest
Amidst a deafening RUMBLE, massive obstacles were rapidly piled up at the canyon’s main entrance and the pre-calculated narrow exit. Dust and smoke filled the air, completely sealing off all escape routes for the Mammoth Herd.
The vast majority of the Mammoths were thus successfully driven into this natural cage.
However, on a battlefield, accidents are always unavoidable.
A mother Mammoth, apparently slowed by the need to care for a stumbling, slow-running calf at her side, had fallen to the very back of the herd.
The moment the canyon entrance was completely sealed by giant logs and rocks, this mother and calf were cut off on the outside.
They stared blankly at the blocked entrance, then looked up in terror at the circling Storm Griffin Group in the sky. They let out helpless, frantic cries, turning in circles on the spot. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Raylo, watching all of this unfold from the air, frowned slightly.
"Captain Kaine!"
Captain Kaine of Amber Territory was currently directing his Knights to reinforce the barrier at the entrance.
Hearing Raylo’s call, he immediately looked up at the sky.
"Take a squad of Knights and capture that straggling mother and calf!"
Raylo’s voice carried down.
"Yes, my lord!"
Without a moment’s hesitation, Kaine selected ten of his most elite Knights. They wheeled their mounts around and, like a whirlwind, charged to encircle the panicked mother and calf still outside the canyon.
Meanwhile, inside the canyon, the scene was one of utter chaos.
More than twenty Mammoths were crammed together. They had finally realized they had fallen into a carefully designed trap and instantly became frenzied and agitated.
Furious roars echoed one after another, making the entire canyon reverberate.
They tried to break through with brute force, hoping to carve a path to survival, but in the face of the narrow terrain and numerous obstacles, their efforts were largely futile.
The canyon’s terrain already severely restricted their massive bodies and room to move, and the deep pits and trenches painstakingly dug by the Knights made their every step a struggle.
Now and then, a Mammoth would lose its footing from the crush or panic and fall into a deep pit with a pained Wail; others were thrown into disarray by suddenly triggered restrictive Magic Arrays like slowing fields or gravity zones. Their heavy bodies became even more clumsy under the effects of the slick mud and the invisible Magic Power, making it impossible for them to form an effective group charge.
They let out deafening bellows that were less a threat and more a display of impotent rage.
"Release the nets!"
Lillian had been calmly observing the situation in the canyon. Seizing the moment the Mammoth Herd fell into chaos, she decisively gave the order.
Knights, long since hidden in ambush in alcoves on the canyon walls and in pre-dug trenches, all revealed themselves.
In well-coordinated groups of two or three, they worked together, heaving massive Beast Capture Nets—tanned from the incredibly tough sinews of Magical Beasts mixed with special materials—and accurately threw them down upon the chaotic herd below.
In an instant, hundreds of huge Beast Capture Nets rained down like spiderwebs from the sky, blanketing the colossal creatures.
Caught off guard, the Mammoths were all ensnared.
The more they struggled in terror, the tighter the tough ropes of the nets pulled, binding their massive bodies securely.
Immediately after, more thick, specially-made ropes were thrown down from the cliffs on both sides.
The Knights’ targets were clear: the Mammoths’ pride and joy—their long, curved tusks—and their thick necks.
Once a rope was looped on, several Knights would immediately work together to tie the other end securely to massive stakes driven into the rock walls, or multiple strong Knights would pull in unison to further restrict the creature’s movements.
For a time, the sounds of Horns, the shouted commands of the Knights, and the pained cries and furious roars of the Mammoths intertwined, painting a magnificent and intense portrait of a hunt.
The air was thick with the smells of sweat, dust, and the unique, heavy scent of the Mammoths.
This arduous encirclement and capture operation lasted for several hours.
Relying on their clever trap designs, ample preparations, and a level of coordinated teamwork far beyond the intelligence of the Mammoths, the Knights gradually subdued one exhausted beast after another, each one worn out from its futile struggles.
By the time the last Mammoth was firmly secured in place by several thick ropes, able only to let out low, unwilling roars, the last rays of the setting sun were already bathing the entire canyon.
Most of the Knights were gasping for breath, and many slumped directly onto the ground, but their faces were all beaming with the joy of success.
Just then, Captain Kaine returned with his squad of Knights, escorting the mother and calf Mammoth pair that had received some extra "attention."
The young Mammoth seemed a bit frightened, pressing close to its mother’s side.
Lillian gazed at the bountiful spoils of their victory and let out a long sigh. Her fair cheeks were smudged with a bit of dirt, but it couldn’t hide the excitement in her eyes.
She walked over to Raylo, who had just leaped down from Baofeng’s back, and gave him a playful wink.
"Brother, it looks like our hunt was a great success."
Seeing his younger sister’s excitement, a smile touched Raylo’s lips.
"Everyone worked hard. Ed, prepare for the return trip."
"Yes, my lord!"
This hunt could be called nothing short of perfect.
The sun sank below the horizon, and night enveloped the canyon.
Raylo gave the order to rest for an hour.
The Knights busied themselves with various tasks or seized the chance to rest.
Ed strode quickly up to Raylo. "My lord, the initial count is complete. We have seventeen Knights with minor injuries, and no one seriously wounded or killed. We’ve captured twenty-two adult Mammoths and four calves."
Raylo nodded. "Very good. Have the injured brothers treated first. In half an hour, we return to Black Stone Castle."
"Yes, sir!"
This was clearly Lillian’s first time experiencing such a large-scale and thrilling hunt. From the end of the battle until now, the excitement had not faded from her face.
Right now, she was hovering around Raylo, chattering away nonstop, her dark eyes sparkling in the firelight.
Raylo looked at her, his heart softening.
His sister had never been this lively in Thunder Dragon City. Coming to the Northern Border, by contrast, seemed to have unleashed her true nature.
Raylo didn’t hold back his praise.
"Lillian, you did an outstanding job. Without your Magic and your command, this wouldn’t have gone so smoothly."
Receiving his affirmation, Lillian proudly lifted her small chin.
"Brother, these Mammoths are so huge! If we take them back, can the castle even hold them? What do they eat?"
"These Mammoths will first stay in Black Stone Territory to be tamed, which should take about a week. You can use that time to build beast pens near Amber Castle. As for food, they’re herbivores. There’s enough fodder around Amber Territory."
Raylo explained patiently.
"Once we get back to the castle, I’ll find a way to ’tame’ them. Then, as we agreed, we’ll split them fifty-fifty?"
Lillian’s eyes lit up.
"That’s great!"
The "taming" he spoke of would naturally require Moonlight’s help—a secret that, for now, couldn’t be known by too many people.
