Chapter 150: Chapter 144: Demon Serpent’s Eye

Half an hour later, the Demon Serpent Legion crawled out of the damp and cold Jade Swamp and onto the dry lands of human territory.

They clearly had no idea that a human army was already lying in wait.

Leading them was an exceptionally tall Snake-man, its upper body covered in dark purple scales. It held a Bone Staff topped with an enormous black Crystal Stone—a Tier Four Demon Serpent Priest.

Its scarlet forked tongue flickered as it issued a hoarse command, urging the legion behind it to quicken its pace.

"All troops, prepare!"

Raylo gave the order.

He drew the Knight’s Longsword at his waist and pointed it forward.

"Mammoth Knights, advance!"

At his command, the twenty-one Mammoth Knights, like twenty-one mobile fortresses, began to advance on the Snake-man Legion.

With every step, these Giant Beasts made the earth tremble, letting out deafening roars.

Behind them, the main infantry force—Knights and their attendants from Black Stone and Amber Territories—gripped their weapons and surged forward with a roar, forming an unstoppable flood.

The Snake-man Warriors at the front of the Demon Serpent Legion were clearly intimidated by this charge, and their formation fell into disarray.

The Demon Serpent Priest let out a sharp hiss, trying to rally its troops, but it was too late.

RUMBLE!

A few hundred meters from the Snake-man Legion, the Mammoth Knights began their charge. Like a red-hot iron plow, they smashed into the center of the Demon Serpent Legion’s line.

Bone Spears snapped and Short Blades were sent flying. The Snake-men’s bodies were fragile and weak before the Mammoths’ hooves and tusks, and a huge gap was instantly torn open in their ranks.

The main infantry force followed close behind, pouring through the breach and engaging the Snake-men on either side in a brutal melee.

"Kaine, left flank!"

Lillian’s clear voice rang out.

"Knights of Amber Territory, with me!"

Kaine raised his sword and led the cavalry from Amber Territory in a sweeping charge from the left flank, moving like a swift whirlwind.

"Ed, right flank!"

Raylo nodded at Ed.

"For Black Stone Territory!"

Ed roared, leading Raylo’s cavalry in a ferocious assault from the right flank.

With a hundred elite Knights on each wing, the best from both territories, they smashed into the enemy’s weak points. In a flash, they had all but routed the Snake-men on the flanks, an unstoppable collapse like a bursting dam.

In the sky above, Lillian’s Pegasus Mage Squad had secured an advantageous position over the battlefield.

"Ice Cone!"

"Fireball!"

"Lightning Chain!"

The Mages chanted their Magic Spells. Ice Cones whistled down, Fireballs rained from above, and arcs of crackling Lightning materialized.

The Magic raining from the sky was like the Reaper’s scythe, harvesting the lives of the Demon Serpent Legion below.

Any Vampire Bats that tried to fly up and harass them were shot down one by one with arrows by the Pegasus Knights Raylo had dispatched to guard the squad. They shrieked as they plummeted to the ground.

Lillian joined the battle as well, her red dress fluttering in the wind. From high above, she unleashed massive Fireballs, hurling them into the densest parts of the monster horde.

The Fireballs exploded violently amidst the clusters of Snake-men, inflicting massive casualties.

High in the sky, Lady Irina chanted a Spell, her raised Magic Staff glowing with a dazzling, fiery red light.

A rain of fire with a three-hundred-meter radius descended like a meteor shower, blanketing the most crowded ranks of the Snake-man Legion.

Flames fell from the sky—a divine punishment.

Over two hundred Snake-man Warriors struggled in the fiery rain, burned to charcoal one after another.

The tide of battle turned in an instant. Under the combined ground and air assault of the human army, the Demon Serpent Legion suffered devastating casualties, its battle line collapsing and retreating.

Seeing the dire situation, the Tier Four Demon Serpent Priest let out a furious roar.

It violently raised its Bone Staff, drew a Dagger that gleamed with an eerie light, and without hesitation, plunged it into the center of its own forehead!

SQUELCH!

Blood splattered. The center of its forehead split open, and a massive, bloodshot vertical pupil, glowing with an evil light, snapped open!

HSSS!

An invisible and immense Spiritual Shock radiated out from the Demon Serpent Priest, spreading in all directions like a tidal wave!

"Argh!"

The Mammoth Knights and their mounts, who were at the forefront of the charge, bore the brunt of the attack.

Knights within a two-hundred-meter radius felt a sharp, stabbing pain in their heads, as if their brains were being pierced by countless steel needles. They instantly grew dizzy, and their movements became sluggish.

Even the thick-skinned, strong-willed Tier Three Magical Beast Mammoths let out cries of agony. Their massive bodies swayed, their forelegs buckled, and several of them collapsed to their knees, momentarily unable to get back up.

Several Pegasus Knights caught in the blast suddenly fell from the sky.

The assault on the central front ground to a halt.

"This is bad!"

Raylo’s expression changed.

"Alex!"

Raylo made an instant decision.

"Take four Storm Griffin Knights and kill that Priest!"

"Yes, my lord!"

Alex, who had been waiting by Raylo’s side, had finally received his orders.

He had been poised for action for some time. Upon receiving the order, he spurred his Storm Griffin. Like a bolt of tawny lightning, it dove from the sky, hurtling straight toward the Demon Serpent Priest who had just unleashed the bizarre Pupil Technique.

Behind him, four other Storm Griffin Knights beat their wings and followed close behind, their Long Spears glowing.

The Storm Griffins were astonishingly fast, their beating wings kicking up a vicious gale.

The Long Spears in the Knights’ hands shimmered with the light of their Fighting Spirit, their target locked.

The Demon Serpent Priest seemed to sense the lethal threat from above. It tried to command its nearby Snake-man guards, but they were also still reeling from the Spiritual Shock, their reactions sluggish.

It could only manage to raise its Bone Staff in a desperate attempt to cast a defensive spell.

But the Storm Griffin Knights’ assault was too fast!

Alex led the charge. His Long Spear let out a piercing shriek as it cut through the air, its tip locked onto the sinister vertical pupil on the Demon Serpent Priest’s forehead.

CRACK!

The Long Spear shattered the Magic Shield.

The momentary resistance gave the Demon Serpent Priest just enough time to dodge aside.

But Alex’s spear was too fast; it still struck the Demon Serpent Priest’s shoulder.

The tremendous force sent the Priest’s serpentine body flying.

Alex abandoned his spear, leaping from the Storm Griffin’s back and drawing the Knight Sword at his hip.

A silver gleam flashed as the Long Sword swept out, chasing the Priest’s flying body.

A strike as fast as lightning.

Alex severed the Demon Serpent Priest’s head.

Alex had two nicknames: "Fast Sword" and "Gale."

The Demon Serpent Priest let out a short, piercing wail. Its massive body swayed, then crashed heavily to the ground, silent.

Alex pushed off the ground and snatched up the Demon Serpent Priest’s head.

He then yanked a rope at his waist, and his body shot back into the air.

He soared back onto his Storm Griffin’s back.

This was a Combat Technique Alex had developed after bonding with his Storm Griffin.

It involved connecting a rope from the Storm Griffin’s saddle to his own belt.

During a fight, he could leap from the griffin’s back to slay an enemy, then use the connecting rope to quickly return to his mount.

With the death of the Demon Serpent Priest, the oppressive spiritual pressure that had blanketed the battlefield dissipated.

The affected Knights and Magical Beasts swiftly recovered.

Seeing their leader slain, the remaining Snake-man soldiers fell into chaos. Their morale shattered, their will to fight disintegrated, and they began to flee in all directions with panicked hisses.

"Cavalry, pursue them for two thousand meters! Do not venture deep into the swamp!"

Raylo ordered the pursuit.

With soaring morale, the Knights began to mop up the fleeing enemy.

An hour later, the battle was over.

The battlefield was a wreck, littered with the corpses of Snake-men and Magical Beasts.

The Allied Army of Black Stone and Amber Territories had won a decisive victory in this skirmish, suffering minimal casualties.

The twilight of the setting sun dyed the battlefield a dark crimson. The air was thick with the acrid, mixed stench of blood and burnt flesh.

The soldiers silently cleared the battlefield, collecting usable weapons and equipment and piling up the Snake-men corpses for cremation.

The flames roared, crackling and popping.

Night fell quietly, and stars began to dot the sky.

Alex walked up to Raylo, holding an object wrapped in clean cloth.

"My lord."

"I dug this out of the Demon Serpent Priest’s forehead."

Raylo took it and unwrapped the cloth.

A fist-sized, dark red, eye-shaped Crystal Stone lay quietly in his palm.

Its surface was covered in a fine web of blood-red veins. At its center was a dark, vertical pupil that seemed to retain a sliver of sinister Life Force, radiating a faint, cold aura.

This was the so-called "Demon Serpent’s Eye."

It was a strange Magic Artifact, one that was embedded directly into the body and activated by sacrificing the user’s own Essence Blood.

"That thing is deeply sinister."

Lillian leaned in for a look, frowning slightly. She could sense the chaotic Magic Power it contained. ’Anyone who embeds that in their forehead like the Snake-man Priest,’ she thought, ’would surely go mad over time.’
