Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 176 - 170: Taking Silver Mist Castle
"Kill!"
The Knights of the Moonlight Knight Order, a silver torrent, surged into the castle right behind the Mammoths.
In the courtyard, the hastily assembled guards of the Donne Family were still reeling from the shock of the gate being instantly breached when the torrent engulfed them.
Flashes of steel, screams of agony, and the clang of weapons filled the air.
The soldiers of Amber Territory were well-trained and flawlessly coordinated. In contrast, the guards of Silver Mist Castle, crippled by the surprise attack and a broken chain of command, fell back again and again, offering almost no effective resistance.
High in the sky, Raylo rode Baofeng, circling and surveying the entire battlefield below.
The soldiers of Silver Mist Castle broke under the charge of the Giant Beasts. They dropped their Weapons, fell to their knees, or turned and fled aimlessly deeper into the castle.
From Baofeng’s back, Raylo calmly observed it all. The scales of victory had tipped decisively in his favor.
Just then, from the solitary Mage Tower in the center of the castle, the Crystal at its peak, which had been dormant for several minutes, once again erupted with a blinding light.
A pale blue Shield, much dimmer than before, rose once more, flickering precariously as it enveloped Silver Mist Castle.
This was the Donne Family’s final act of defiance.
’Trying to make a last stand with a single Mage Tower?’
A cold smirk touched Raylo’s lips.
He knew that as long as that tower stood, the Donne Family’s Mages could continue to cause problems for his forces.
He raised the Long Sword in his hand, its tip pointing directly at the faintly shimmering tower.
"Mammoth Knights! Target: the Mage Tower! Smash it to pieces!"
Infused with Magic Power, Raylo’s voice boomed across the entire battlefield.
On the ground, a Mammoth Knight, having just used his mount’s tusks to send a small squad of holdouts flying, looked up at the sound of the command. He grinned, revealing a mouth full of white teeth.
He slapped the head of the Giant Beast beneath him.
"Hear that, big fella? The Lord wants us to tear down that birdcage!"
"ROAR!"
More than twenty Mammoths let out a deafening roar.
They wheeled around, their massive limbs beginning to move, and the very ground of Silver Mist Castle began to tremble violently.
With a wild, red light gleaming in their eyes, the herd of War Giant Beasts began a straight-line charge toward the Mage Tower.
The houses, gardens, and sculptures in their path were as fragile as paper, instantly smashed into a cloud of flying debris.
Any Silver Mist Castle soldiers unable to dodge in time were either trampled into a bloody pulp or effortlessly scooped up by tusks and flung into the air.
BOOM!
The first Mammoth slammed viciously into the Wizard Tower.
It was followed by a second, then a third... More than twenty War Mammoths, like living siege hammers, slammed into the Mage Tower one after another.
They surrounded the tower’s base, repeatedly ramming it with their heads—covered in metal Armor Plates—and their tusks, which were as sharp as Long Spears. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
BOOM! RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
Silver Mist Castle was experiencing a minor earthquake.
The Mage Tower shook violently, stones and dust raining down from its walls.
Inside the tower, the faces of the Donne Family Mages were deathly pale. They were thrown about, unable to even keep their footing, let alone chant Spells and organize an effective counterattack.
"Steady! Hold your ground!"
An older Mage yelled himself hoarse, gripping a windowsill for dear life.
"Fight back! Use the Fireball Technique! Bursting Fireball! Kill those brutes down there!"
A young Mage managed to steady himself and began to gather the Fire Element in his hands.
However, just as his Magic was about to coalesce, the tower lurched violently. The Mage stumbled, lost his balance, and with a short cry of alarm, plunged from the window in a free fall.
A dull THUD was quickly drowned out by the roars of the Mammoths and the cacophony of impacts.
In the chaos, no one even noticed their comrade had fallen to his death.
This primitive, brutal method of siege completely broke the composure of the Mages, who were accustomed to slow, methodical Casting.
CRASH!
A few minutes later, one of the Mammoths smashed a breach directly into the tower’s base.
"Knights, with me!"
Monk roared, leading his Knights through the breach like a flood tide.
Forced into close-quarters combat within the tower rooms, the Mages’ resistance was utterly feeble.
The Knights cleared the tower from the bottom up, dispatching every enemy in the most direct way possible.
Flashes of steel and Magic crisscrossed in the narrow stairwells, but the light of Magic soon faded completely.
In less than ten minutes, the white swan banner of the Donne Family was torn from the top of the Mage Tower and tossed into the wind.
With the fall of the Mage Tower, the last vestiges of resistance within Silver Mist Castle evaporated.
Vast numbers of soldiers chose to surrender. They knelt on the ground in a daze, watching the Silver Armored Knights march past them.
The few loyalists who attempted to continue resisting were mercilessly executed on the spot.
By the time the first rays of morning sun touched the battered castle, the fighting had completely ceased.
Inside the great hall of the main keep, Raylo sat on the ornate throne that had once belonged to Count Donne.
A group of people knelt in the center of the hall.
Aside from Kevin, who was escorted by the Personal Guard, there were the two remaining sons and one daughter of the Donne Family: Brian, Dennis, and Ailia.
All three were wounded, their faces masks of humiliation and despair.
Raylo’s gaze swept over each of them before finally resting on Kevin.
"Well done, Kevin."
Raylo said.
Kevin rose, straightened his somewhat disheveled robes, and calmly walked to stand beside Raylo’s throne.
The gesture made his allegiance clear.
Brian, Dennis, and Ailia’s eyes widened in disbelief as they stared at their own brother.
"Kevin... You!"
The eldest son, Brian, was the first to react. His face flushed from white to red, then to a deep purple, and the finger he pointed at Kevin trembled violently.
"You traitor! You’ve betrayed our family!"
"We’re your brother and sister! Father just died in battle, and you’re already siding with the enemy?"
Tears welled in Ailia’s eyes as she questioned him, her voice shrill.
"Where is your honor? Does the blood of the Donne Family mean so little to you?"
Dennis trembled with rage. He struggled to stand, but the soldiers behind him held him down firmly. He could only glare at Kevin, his eyes full of venom, and grit out the words through clenched teeth.
"Kevin, you bastard son of a whore, you’ll die a miserable death!"
Faced with the heart-wrenching curses of his siblings, Kevin’s expression showed not a single trace of shame or unease.
He didn’t even raise an eyebrow, merely watching them with calm detachment.
He slowly raised a hand to brush some nonexistent dust from his shoulder, then spoke in a flat, almost cruel, tone.
"Family?"
He scoffed.
"A family on the verge of annihilation? What’s there to be loyal to? As for honor... that’s just a story written by the victors."
