Girl Hero: Revenge on Goblins!-Chapter 1063 - D426: King of the Terminal and the Otherworldly Knight (3)
The Hero stepped off the carriage and onto the platform. As he looked around, all he could see was a deserted expanse, with only this solitary platform standing beneath his feet.
And ahead, it was the towering white wall, reaching into the clouds as if it marked the world’s end. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Originally, aside from the small door in the tower, the white wall had no gate, but now a massive gate was embedded beneath the white giant wall.
Crossing this gate would lead to the relics of the old era: the Holy City.
In the past, as the only "religion" within the Kingdom, the Church believed in neither any God nor idol, but only in their own spirit and ideals, which even in those days across the continent, made them a rarity.
And with the descent of the Four-winged King, the existence of the Church became even more out of place.
Despite once being the largest Professional Guild in the Kingdom, with the Divine Knowledge Saintess’s betrayal and the proliferation of Half Angels, even the most steadfast Priestesses began to waver.
It didn’t take many years before the Fantasy Species of angels descended in large numbers, and people began converting, embracing the wings of Angels. Every chapel originally belonging to the Church also erected statues of Angels.
If it were just this, the Church might have been able to endure for several more decades with its years of solid heritage, after all, angels have never actively harmed humankind.
But after the Angels repelled the Dragon Tide, all that remained unwavering became an unmeltable stubbornness.
The Ancient Royal City of the Northern Territory turned into the new "Holy Capital," whereas those who still upheld Church ideals fell into the category of "heretics" discarded by the times.
According to common sense, it wouldn’t be surprising for these obstinate heretics to be cleansed by the angels, but a merciful Lord ultimately still granted tolerance.
Though the Holy City was excluded when the Holy Wall was erected, they were not entirely driven out from within the barrier of light, and a passage left open every day welcomed every lost Holy City person returning to the Kingdom, under the Lord’s wings.
"So, this gate was added by the Holy City people themselves."
With a flap of her Fire Wings, she flew under the large gate, and the Hero pushed the small door beneath the gate, discovering it wasn’t locked.
It seemed to be more of a symbolic object for the Holy City people, considering if anyone truly wanted to leave the Holy City and head to the paradise within the wall, there was no point in stopping them.
She glanced around and found many pamphlets placed on a nearby table, while the ground was scattered with many posters blown by the wind.
Picking up a pamphlet at random, she glanced at it and the Hero’s lips curled into a begrudging smile.
’Even today, still trying to recruit people from the Kingdom? Ambitious, indeed.’ The Depraved Hero also laughed heartily.
Indeed, these materials were Kingdom-targeted propaganda, extolling the glory of human purity, the limitless possibilities of ideals and spirit... and other such things—essentially the old Church rhetoric.
Yet from these yellowed, dust-covered papers, it was evident that the Church’s efforts were ultimately in vain.
Then, she bent down to pick up a poster buried beneath yellow sand, its contents unclear, and gently brushed off the dust, whereupon she froze slightly.
Underneath the large promotional slogan on the poster was an image of a smiling girl, reaching out to invite those viewing the poster to join the Church.
The girl in the image had black hair akin to night and mesmerizing wine-red eyes, with hair and eye color similar to the Empress.
Gazing at the poster for a long while, a trace of melancholy rose in the Empress’s eyes.
After spending some time collecting all the scattered posters and using Magic Power to reattach them properly, she clapped her hands and returned to the gate.
Then, without lingering further, she pushed open the narrow door and entered the Holy City.
