After giving Farrah and Alfie their test, he turned his back and began walking.

He didn’t run since conserving energy was critical. The industrial zone was hours away, and if enemies appeared, exhaustion could really kill him...

He needs to be in good form at the very least. After all, he spent 140 Spirit Points during the battle against the War Tyrant.

It means that he couldn’t use his Spirit Pulse for a while.

"Right... I should check it now..." Kai muttered as he looked around.

Atom marched beside him with its optics scanning the surroundings.

He then spoke quietly, "Stay on guard. If anything moves, you react first." The Sentinel’s eyes lit up briefly, acknowledging the command.

As they moved through the broken road, Kai opened his interface.

His inventory appeared before his eyes, and he scrolled to the newest additions...

"Ahhh... It’s here." Kai muttered, seeing the two paper icons in his inventory beside the Survivor Medal icon.

As he checked it, Kai noticed their names, Steelbreaker Sword Blueprint and Repeater Crossbow Blueprint.

Without hesitation, he clicked the item to see the description.

A longsword design focused on durability and reach.

The blade structure is strengthened to withstand repeated strikes against armored targets.

Requires standard forging tools and refined metal to craft.

Optimized grip and weight distribution allow steady handling during prolonged use. ]

"Wow... This is nice, but something’s missing." He muttered as he felt that this wouldn’t be enough for a blueprint.

Then, it was at this point that another set of notifications appeared.

It had a special feature that fires three bolts rapidly, but reduces accuracy. ]

Then, the same notification about him being asked to learn the blueprint had also appeared.

Now, Kai’s eyes shone as he read the descriptions.

"Perfect... one for close combat, one for ranged suppression." He clenched his fist, already imagining how these weapons could change the tide for his shelter.

Anyway, Kai closed the interface and exhaled slowly.

"We’ll need resources to build them... but once we do, the shelter will advance, and even with another Mech Siege, we’ll be fine."

That was his aim all along...

As he continued moving, the industrial zone finally appeared ahead.

Somewhere within, Russel had already found the cloaked figure who was also the Gene Trader.

"It’s too eerie... Atom, stay close." Kai said as he tightened his grip on his revolver and kept walking.

Then, it was at this point that his radio turned on.

"Kai!" Russell’s voice came in.

"We’re under attack! Mutated humans! Same kind that hit the shelter! We’re pinned down inside the factory ruins!"

Gunfire echoed faintly through the static, followed by Gabby’s voice shouting orders.

Kai’s expression hardened. "Position?"

"North sector of the industrial zone, near the collapsed conveyor lines!" Russell shouted back. "We’re holding them off, but there are too many!"

"Stay alive. I’m coming." Kai snapped the radio shut and broke into a run. There was no need to reserve his energy.

As a matter of fact, this was the reason why he kept his stamina at an all-time high!

It didn’t take him that long before he started hearing some gunshots, though it was a bit too far.

"We’re going to rescue our friends." Kai said to Atom beside him.

It didn’t nod, but Kai knew that its sensors were scanning for threats.

Then, as Kai approached the area, the sounds of battle grew louder...

The revolver shots, the groans and shrieks of the mutants, and the crash of debris were getting close!

Soon, he rounded a broken wall and saw them... Russell, Gabby, and Dylan crouched behind rusted machinery, firing desperately at a swarm of mutated humans!

He had many questions about how they got into this situation when they should be hanging around the Gene Trader... However, there was no time for that!

The mutants looked terrifying with their bodies damaged by infection.

Most of them had pale skin stretched over bulging muscles, and their movements looked almost feral...

Kai didn’t hesitate. "Atom, suppressing fire!"

The Sentinel raised its rifle.

Bang!

The first metal brick or bullet ripped through the nearest mutant, but it didn’t stop there! The dense metal tore straight through three more bodies lined up behind it, leaving a trail of flesh and blood...

The second shot followed immediately, greatly easing the pressure from the three.

This bullet punched through a cluster of attackers. The slug smashed through a chest, shattered a shoulder, and destroyed some ribs before it finally embedded itself in the wall with another head. Just like that, it dropped four mutants in one strike.

As for the final bullet that Atom had, Kai ordered not to fire it just yet. Atom had already done its job, thinning the swarm and giving Russell’s team breathing room.

Now, it was Kai’s turn! He dashed forward with his revolvers to eliminate the remaining mutants!
