Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 162: The Night Visitors and the Operations
Kai recognized Mei’s voice immediately.
He stood, already familiar with the routine of late‑night visitors.
After all, Sera, Marissa, Claire, and even Russel often came by his room.
Russel usually had various requests, like a larger allowance so he could go out more on expeditions, or simply to join Kai when loneliness weighed on him.
Sera, on the other hand, would joke shamelessly, offering her body in exchange for ammunition, food, or even jars of mayonnaise. Kai knew she wasn’t serious... what she really wanted was another chance to use the Status Crystal, to see her progress in a system she otherwise had no access to.
Marissa, the Witch Doctor, was persistent about joining him on expeditions, always eager to test her strange Talent in the field.
Claire, however, was different. She seemed willing to do anything for wealth, her eyes always filled with ambition. Kai often worried she was being influenced too much by the greedy spirit bound to her Talent.
’I hope she doesn’t lose herself to it...’ Kai mused as he reached this thought.
In any case, he crossed the room and opened the door.
Mei stepped inside, and her expression was uncertain but warm.
Her eyes wandered across the room and saw the map pinned to the wall, the neatly stacked weapons, the food packs, and documents spread across Kai’s desk.
Everything was organized, like his cubicle in the office.
For a moment, she said nothing, simply observing the space that reflected Kai’s life in this new world. Then she turned back to him and spoke softly.
"Senior Kai... after everything today, I just wanted to see you. To remind myself that this isn’t a dream. That you’re really here."
Kai met her gaze, surprised by the suddenness of her visit.
He could only guess that she was overwhelmed by loneliness during her long expedition. Surviving alone for more than a month, wandering through thirty shelters, never knowing who to trust... it must have been exhausting.
If he were like that, traveling alone, it would certainly be difficult for him as well.
He gestured for her to sit, and Mei lowered herself onto the chair near his desk.
"You’ve built something incredible here," she murmured.
"I already looked around. Claire accompanied me... This place feels... safe. I almost forgot what that feels like."
Kai leaned against the desk and smiled.
Mei was someone who had no reliable shelter to go back to. It wouldn’t be surprising if she really felt that way...
"Well, it wasn’t easy. I’m sure with your Skills and Talent, we will be able to maintain this place as a safe shelter."
Mei smiled faintly. "I thought I’d never see you again. I kept telling myself to keep moving, to survive one more day... But deep down, I wanted to find someone I could trust. Someone I knew."
Kai paused after hearing her words.
He had always seen Mei as his junior, someone he had to guide and protect. But now, she was standing before him as an equal... a survivor who had endured hardships he couldn’t even imagine.
’I guess she’s not here like Claire and the others...’
Just like that, the two of them continued talking quietly for a while.
The shelter outside was calm, with only the faint sounds of footsteps of the people assigned to patrol the area at night...
Eventually, the conversation slowed, and the night passed without either of them noticing how much time had gone by.

The next morning, Mei quietly stepped out of Kai’s room.
Her expression was calm, though it was as if she was still processing everything from the night before.
In any case, she walked down the corridor toward the mess hall, where the smell of food was already spreading.
It wasn’t Amer who was busy at the stove. This time, it was Mila, the head chef, mixing rations with herbs and spices.
Other survivors greeted her as they all gathered for breakfast...
For Mei, who had been scavenging food and relying on edible fruits or wild animals in the forest, this meal was sumptuous.
With her current Title Effect, she could survive two or maybe three days with this one serving of a meal already.
However, she heard that she could actually receive another meal later at night if she gave Kai a survivor medal...
She could even negotiate it for a whole month of free dinner for one Survivor Medal!
"I have some extra Survivor Medals... This is great! I can do that trade!"
Soon, Mei joined everyone in their meals as she blended in with the group.
A few curious glances followed her since she was the newcomer who seemed to know Kai back on Earth... but she didn’t mind.
She accepted her tray, sat down, and for the first time in weeks, ate some real breakfast...

Soon, Kai was preparing to occupy the A.I. base he had located.
It was far from their shelter, but after days of striking patrols and steadily reducing their numbers, he was ready to finish it.
This would be the decisive attack...
’I need a few people with me...’ He mused...
With that in mind, he gathered a small team.
Aside from Atom, Kai chose Claire, Mei, and Jonas to accompany him.
Jonas was surprised by the decision. He had only just reached Level 15, while Claire and Mei were already over Level 20, and Kai himself stood at Level 30.
"I... I will do my best!" Jonas said anxiously as he realized that perhaps, his Talent might be useful for Kai...
Indeed, Kai believed Jonas’s Talent, Iron Stomach, might prove useful in the upcoming battle...
Meanwhile, Wallace, Ralph, Russel, and the others were assigned to stay behind and guard the shelter.
They really wanted to join the expedition but the base was too important to leave undefended, and Kai trusted them to hold the line if anything happened in his absence.
Just like that, Kai and his small team set out.
The path ahead was dangerous, but since the chance to finally cripple their enemy’s operations in the area had come, they weren’t going to let it slip away.
