Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 168: The Crops and the Supplies
As the group of slaves started having some food and water, Kai and the others continued looking around the area, searching for the keys, spoils, or anything they could use.
Jonas moved toward the fallen Sentinels, checking their belts and compartments.
"Nothing here. Just ammo and tools." π§πβ―β―π€β―π£πβ΄πππ.ππ°π
Mei also moved swiftly as she searched the towers.
Minutes later, she returned, holding a ring of keys with a terrible look! It seemed as if she had just battled against something! However, none of them was able to get the reason why as she dismissed their questions...
"Found them. Locked in a storage box near the watchtower."
Claire received the keys and walked toward the slaves. One by one, she unlocked their chains, and soon, the iron started falling away with heavy clinks.
Kai watched as the workers rubbed their wrists with tears streaming down their faces.
Noli bowed his head deeply. "We owe you our lives."
Kai shook his head. "No. You owe us nothing. What matters now is survival. Stay close. Weβll secure this base, then figure out what these crops are really for."
Jonas smirked faintly. "And thatβs where I come in, right? Iron Stomach. Guess Iβll be the guinea pig."
Claire shot him a look. "Donβt joke about that."
Kaiβs lips curved into a grin. "Actually, Jonas is perfect for this. If these crops are poisoned or engineered, his Talent will reveal it. Weβll know exactly what weβre dealing with."
To be honest, Kai was a bit worried about this as well. After all, he wasnβt too sure about the powers of the Iron Stomach.
However, since Jonas could literally eat a rusty pipe, he should be strong enough to handle poison.
Mei folded her arms. "Then weβll finally understand why the A.I. keeps humans alive here."
The slaves gathered closer, listening intently. They were also curious since they only had guesses before.
Finally, Kai rose to his feet and scanned the field.
"Alright. Let me appraise it first." Kai said.
"Huh? You have an Appraisal Skill?" Jonas was dumbfounded. It meant that he didnβt really have to eat these bioweapon crops!
Kai nodded. "It gives basic information. But I still want you to try later. Iβm hoping youβll gain buffs from these crops. Youβre not satisfied being a simple gate guard, are you?"
Jonas chuckled nervously. "Fair point."
Kai stepped forward, touching the first crop... It was a potatoβlike tuber with violet and orange spots.
[ Fast Appraisal Activated ]
[ Spirit Point Cost: 13 ]
[ Cooldown: 20 seconds ]
After reaching Level 2, the cost had gone down to 13 and the Cooldown was reduced as well.
Soon, the system window appeared before his eyes:
[ You have discovered Mutagenic Root! ]
[ Grade: Hazardous Material ]
[ Description: A genetically altered tuber designed to produce unstable toxins. When consumed, it can trigger mutations in organic tissue or destabilize biological systems. ]
[ Note: This crop is not intended for food. It is harvested as raw material for bioweapon development. Prolonged exposure may weaken human immune systems. ]
"Ohhh... This is seems to be a bit more dangerous than I thought."
Kai wryly smiled as he explained to Jonas.
"Mutagenic Root... hazardous material. Itβs exactly what Noli suspected. These arenβt food... theyβre bioweapons. Jonas... I think you letβs not risk it."
The slaves gasped, whispering among themselves. Some recoiled from the fields, horrified that they had been planting weapons all along.
Jonas scratched his head, trying to mask his unease. "Well... I think I can do it. I can even it metal, even mirrors... My Iron Stomach can take it!"
Kai turned to him and confirmed that he was determined to proceed with this.
"Yes. Weβll remember your sacrifice... or your dedication. If you can consume it safely, weβll learn whether these crops can be turned against the machines."
"What? Sacrifice? Donβt jinx it, Kai..." Claire said. She really wants to smack him sometimes.
Jonas crouched down, staring at the strange tuber Kai had just appraised. The violet and orange spots looked harmless.
He scratched his head, then shrugged. "Well... Iβve eaten worse."
Claireβs eyes narrowed. "Jonas, you donβt have toβ"
But before she could stop him, Jonas bit into the Mutagenic Root. The taste was bitter, pungent, almost steel. He forced himself to chew, swallowing with a grimace.
The system chimed immediately:
[ Iron Stomach Activated ]
[ Hazardous Material Consumed: Mutagenic Root ]
[ Buff Gained: Toxic Fortitude ]
[ +100% resistance to poison and toxins for 40 minutes. ]
Jonas gagged, clutching his stomach for a moment. "Ugh... tastes like rotten batteries." He coughed, then straightened, his face pale but determined. "But Iβm fine. See? Iron Stomach works."
He then explained what he got.
Kaiβs eyes lit up. "Toxic Fortitude... 100% resistance for 40 minutes impressive..."
There were still 3 other types of crops and Kai was already curious what theyβd see.
Meanwhile, the slaves gasped as they saw what Jonas did.
They had seen Jonas eat something that should have killed him, only for him to just complain about the taste!
To them, it looked like sorcery.
Even Noliβs voice trembled with awe. "He... he ate poison."

Meanwhile, as Kai and the others were busy with the new territory, it was raining hard outside New Haven Shelterβ45.
At this time, within the chamber inside the main building of the shelter, Sera could be seen idly playing with her dagger... It was her gene weapon, a blade she could manifest out of thin air whenever she wished.
The chamber she was guarding wasnβt just storage. It was filled with supplies Kai had personally gathered and organized. Crates of food, weapons, and gear lined the walls, each marked and catalogued.
Security here rotated between Kai himself, Claire, Althea, and Sera. Tonight, it was Seraβs turn...
Clank...
The door opened, and Victor stepped inside, while shaking water from his shoulders. He glanced around the chamber, impressed by the neat rows of supplies.
"I heard Kai provided new supplies. Is that true?" Victor asked.
Sera looked up, her dagger vanishing with a flick of her hand. "Yes. But the prices are the same. Kai didnβt mention any changes. Also, we have raincoats now. He provided them... Itβs perfect timing..."
Victorβs eyes lit up. "Raincoats... thatβs good. And is it true I can get a semiβautomatic pistol now?"
