Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 94: The Updated Leaderboard
Atom’s movements remained steady and almost lifelike just like before.
Kai studied it carefully, searching for any obvious changes. At first, nothing seemed different.
Yet for some reason, he felt it. Atom carried itself with a new confidence, as if something inside had shifted.
Its optics, those dull mechanical "eyes," now glowed a little brighter than before.
’Did we just solve the energy problem?’ Kai wondered. This was the problem that had been gnawing in his mind for several days already.
After all, he had no idea whether Atom would just suddenly run out of power!
Thankfully, the brighter glow in its eyes was probably an indication that it had charged up or something.
Without a word, Atom turned away from the wreckage and walked calmly out of the scene, leaving the furnace behind.
Kai felt a little more excited.
’It ignored the heat... went straight into the core... and came back stronger. I think I understand it now.’
The survivors exchanged bewildered looks, but all of them were happy with the fact that Atom was their ally!
"Whatever happened in there... Atom is still with us. And it’s stronger now." Kai reminded everyone with a laugh.
Just like that, everyone celebrated as they continued salvaging whatever items they could find... Nothing must be wasted from this mechanical unit!
On the other hand, after a few minutes, Kai finally selected Energy Cores for the rewards option. He needed tangible rewards in these early stages of the Apocalypse after all.
Although he liked the Weapon Blueprint as it could help them in the future, he believed that it would still require a lot of other resources, like proper equipment, materials, even craftsmen or experts who could truly create them.
Then, as Kai was about to gather the bladed weapons of the Sentinels to help clean up the place, he heard Claire’s voice from behind.
"Kai! Look, you’re not the only one in the Leaderboard anymore!" Claire said as she urged Kai to check the system’s Leaderboard.
As soon as he heard this, Kai nodded and quickly checked the system’s Leaderboard.
[ Top Survivor Ranking List ]
[ 1. Kai – Level 16 ]
[ 2. Renji – Level 10 ]
[ 3. Mei – Level 10 ]
[ 4. Arjun – Level 10 ]
"Oh... You’re right! There are three more." Kai muttered as he saw the updated rankings in the Leaderboard.
It seemed that these three had just found something that made them level up big time. Perhaps, they also defeated their own Field Tyrant just now.
In any case, similar to him, only their first names could be seen...
As soon as he saw Mei’s name, he couldn’t help but recall someone in his office. However, Mei was a common name, so he wasn’t expecting that it was someone he knew.
***
Not too far from Haven-11, the shelter that was already being occupied by some perverted Survivors, Mei was still searching for food...
She had never imagined she would survive this long. When the Global Event to hunt Field Tyrants was announced to everyone, she was only Level 6, barely strong enough to fend off ordinary Sentinels.
The announcement alone made her truly fear for her life...
"Only ten days before a new event, huh..." Mei muttered.
She remembered the predators she had fled from before, humans who had turned into opportunistic hunters after the first Mech Siege.
If she could barely escape them, how could she possibly stand against a Field Tyrant?
Her talent, Living Camouflage, had saved her countless times.
By merging with trees or blending into rubble, she could vanish from sight, waiting for danger to pass.
But hiding was not enough anymore.
The Event demanded kills, and although the system would reward those who simply survived, it would not be any exceptional reward.
Mei prayed quietly, asking for strength, and hoped that she’d be able to endure this Apocalypse.
Then, just three days before the Global Event to hunt Field Tyrant started, fortune shifted.
While fleeing from a patrol of Sentinels, Mei stumbled upon a collapsed structure hidden deep in the forest.
At first, she thought it was just another ruin. But as she explored, she realized it was a laboratory.
The walls were scorched, skeletons lay scattered across the floor, and shattered equipment hinted at experiments that were long abandoned. She even found three industrial demolition explosives!
Although she had no idea how to use it yet, she knew that she could learn it if she studied it carefully.
In any case, despite the eerie silence, the laboratory became her refuge.
She fortified the entrance, set traps, and claimed it as her base.
It was safer than wandering aimlessly, and it gave her a chance to breathe.
More importantly, she found treasures among the remains!
The skeletons carried vials of Alpha Gene Enhancement Serums, still intact despite the years.
She was actually worried that they were already expired at first, but thankfully, the Apocalypse System didn’t let her down and confirmed that they were alright to consume, and there would only be some degradation in their effects instead. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
After using the serums, she immediately felt her body surge with new vitality. Her physique started improving, and her senses heightened. Although her camouflage ability was still the same, she somehow felt that it had become more seamless than ever.
There was no system notification about the improvement of her talent, so it was probably just in her mind, but still, she knew that she had become a lot better.
With each serum, her confidence grew.
She also scavenged weapons from broken crates, pieced together armor from discarded fragments, and slowly built herself into a fighter.
When the event arrived, she was already a Level 9 Survivor...
On the day of the Global Event, Mei realized how lucky she was!
"Do I have a hidden Luck Stat or something? Why am I so lucky?" Mei said as her chance came when she spotted a Field Tyrant wandering not too far from a cliff...
The massive machine was terrifying, with its furnace that could probably burn anything it touches... However, it wasn’t as agile as it seemed.
’This is possible, right?’
Mei knew she could never defeat it head-on. But the laboratory had given her tools, and her talent gave her patience...
After considering all of this, Mei took a deep breath as she devised a plan...
’Maybe if I reach Level 10 quickly, Kai will notice my name... If there’s a chance later or if there’s any system update, we might even be able to contact each other.’
