Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 96: The New Enemies
Mila had always taken pride in her work, even if others overlooked it.
As head of the Sanitation Crew, she and her team were responsible for keeping New Haven‑45 livable. Toilets, floors, the junkyard, even the foul corners of the shelter... nothing was beyond their reach.
In this A.I. apocalypse, infection or sickness could be just as deadly as a Sentinel’s plasma blast. Medicines were scarce, and even when found, they didn’t always work. Cleanliness was survival, and Mila knew it better than anyone.
When her daily duties were finished, she never wasted time.
She trained with the weapons, determined not to be helpless if danger came.
During the ten-day wait for the Global Event to hunt Field Tyrants, she practiced with a revolver. At first, her shots were clumsy, but after twenty or thirty minutes of steady drills each day, her aim began to improve.
She wasn’t a soldier yet, but she was no longer just a cleaner at this point...
If Kai called for her to stand in the ramparts, then she’d be willing to do so...
After training, she often turned to the workshop.
It must be remembered that Kai had purchased rolls of fabric from wandering merchants, and those had already been sewn into comfortable clothes for many survivors.
But the ten Leather Bundles Kai had obtained from his Material Treasure Chest were different. They were thick, stubborn, and difficult to handle. Mila was the only one with the patience and skill to work them.
She spent hours cutting, stitching, and shaping the leather, turning it into protective gear and sturdy accessories.
Although her hands were calloused, she was unshaken and continued working with them/. Every piece she crafted was something she was truly proud of...
Then, just as she was finishing another piece, the alarm blared.
Mila froze while she still had the needle in her hand. The shrill sound echoed through the shelter, followed by some frantic shouts.
She swiftly followed the others outside and saw the movements of the enemies!
"Huh?" Mila was confused, seeing that the enemies weren’t the A.I. army.
"What in the world am I seeing? Are we being attacked by demons?!" She asked in surprise.

A few minutes later, Kai’s team had similar reactions!
"What am I seeing here?" Terrence was shocked as he spotted dozens of ugly-looking humanoid figures clawing their way up the shelter’s walls.
"Maybe a mutation due to radiation or something?" Claire muttered, as she couldn’t find any explanation.
Perhaps, if these figures were half-robots, she could understand that they were being controlled by the Anima Civilization or the A.I. Rebel Aria.
However, that was definitely not the case, considering how they look.
"Nah... probably result of consuming expired Gene Enhancement Serums," Ralph replied while already raising his revolver.
"We should help them... by putting them down."
None of them were panicking since they could see that the Security Division led by Wallace was actually doing perfectly fine...
They had enough ammunition, and the enemies weren’t scaling fast enough either.
They saw that everyone, including the ones in the Engineer Division and the Sanitation Crew were actually fighting really well!
Of course, it was also thanks to the wall and the barbed wire they had arranged before.
Kai clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention.
"Alright. It’s not the Gene Trader. Just shoot them. They’re not wearing armor. Do not engage in close combat. They can be dangerous."
Soon, the mutated humans shrieked as they scrambled upward...
"Open fire!" Kai commanded.
The Assault Teams unleashed a hail of bullets.
Ralph’s revolver thundered with each shot...
Needless to say, his aim was precise thanks to his Talent...
Soon, he dropped one abnormal humanoid figure after another.
Everyone swiftly followed, and it didn’t take long before the mutants screamed as their bodies collapsed against the walls, but they seemed truly desperate!
They were ignoring pain, clawing forward even as their limbs were torn apart.
It was getting dangerous!
"Keep the pressure up!" Kai shouted...
This time, he fired his own weapon as well. As for Atom, Kai decided not to command it yet since there could be others lurking around. They must have someone who could watch their backs or flanks, and Atom was perfect for the task...
Soon, Kai and the other Survivors got the message they needed to see.
[ +400 Experience Points. ]
[ +450 Experience Points. ]
[ +380 Experience Points. ]
They were actually getting experience points from killing these abominations!
Since they were surprisingly easy to kill, everyone could only wish that more of them would spawn!
Just like that, the battle raged for several minutes... Thankfully, Kai had been very diligent and opened plenty of Weapons Gift Packs, allowing them easily overpower the enemies!
The ugly mutants had numbers but no tactics. They threw themselves at the walls like mindless animals, only to be shot down again and again.
One particularly large mutant, its body swollen with bulging muscles, managed to leap onto the barricade.
It roared, swinging its massive arms wildly in hopes of killing the guards, but Wallace was able to deal with it after throwing hatchets at its chest and head!
Thud! Thud!
Kai saw this, and he couldn’t help but feel impressed... Wallace was so calm handling that situation!
Then, it was at this point that he heard Claire and Ralph, shouting in joy behind him!
"Wooohooo! Level 10, baby!" Ralph cheered in joy.
"I got there first! I just planned to surprise you later!" Claire said.
The other Survivors saw this as well, but unfortunately for them, they hadn’t obtained any C-Grade Energy Core or something similar just yet.
Because of that, they couldn’t break through, no matter how many Experience Points they had, since their physique couldn’t handle it.
Kai could only congratulate them briefly before turning his attention back to the enemies...
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the last mutant fell.
Thud!
Its body tumbled from the wall, joining the pile of corpses littering the ground.
Then, as Kai thought that they could finally rest, they felt the ground tremble!
Kai had a bad feeling about this as he turned around...
What he saw made him stop in his tracks. A huge Mech Unit was moving slowly toward them, its heavy steps shaking the ground.
It was another Field Tyrant, and it seemed larger this time... Furthermore, it was heading straight for New Haven‑45.
"Shit..." Kai was worried.
If the machine continued on its path, their new shelter would be destroyed. The defenses they had built would never hold against something of that size and power...
They had to stop it before it could reach their shelter!
