Chapter 14: [14]Scroll Conversion, Kael’s Downfall

The tournament progressed exactly as Vahn calculated. It was a tedious exercise in system exploitation. While the other competitors exhausted their mana pools and broke their weapons to impress the military recruiters, Vahn treated the arena like a casual stroll through a park.

He won his second match by altering the gravity of his opponent’s broadsword, making the weapon so heavy the boy could not lift it off the floor. He won his third match by tweaking the atmospheric density around a fire mage, literally suffocating the oxygen required for her spells to ignite.

Every single victory was bloodless and utterly humiliating for the elites.

To the normal students, Vahn Ryker was simply the luckiest commoner alive. His opponents kept making bizarre errors. But to the veterans watching closely, Vahn was a terrifying anomaly.

By mid afternoon, the holographic bracket above the stadium updated with a loud chime. The finals for Block C had arrived.[Block C Final: Vahn Ryker vs. Kael Reddington]

The noise in the stadium grew incredibly loud. This was the grudge match everyone had been waiting for. The untouchable golden boy against the infuriating commoner who embarrassed the entire elite class.

Vahn stepped onto the massive central platform. The afternoon sun beat down on the runic stone. He stretched his neck and offered a lazy wave to Hana in the stands. She grinned back and gave him a massive thumbs up. Sitting beside Hana was Aria, who watched Vahn with intense curiosity and exasperation.

"He is not even wearing armor," Aria muttered. "Is he trying to get himself killed? His spatial awareness is good, but Kael is a Level 10 Epic Tier."

"Do not worry, Sister in Law," Hana chirped cheerfully. "My brother hates taking damage."

Aria flushed a deep pink and swatted at Hana’s shoulder. "I told you to stop calling me that!"

On the platform, Kael made his entrance. He swaggered proudly. His Gold Tier Radiant Knight armor caught the sunlight and blinded everyone in the first three rows. He drew his massive broadsword, and the blade immediately erupted into a crackling aura of holy fire.

He stopped ten meters from Vahn, his face showing an ugly and arrogant sneer.

"Your little luck streak ends here, Ryker," Kael barked loudly. He used a localized wind spell to amplify his voice so the entire stadium could hear him. "I do not know what cheap tricks you used to make the others stumble, but it will not work on me. I possess passive debuff immunity. You are just trash."

Vahn sighed. It was the deep sigh of a man who had heard the exact same villain monologue a thousand times before.

"Kael," Vahn spoke normally. "Your armor is too bright. You look like a walking disco ball. Are you trying to blind your enemies, or are you just desperately crying out for attention?"

The crowd went dead silent. Then, a few scattered snorts of laughter erupted from the commoner stands.

Kael’s face turned completely purple. The veins in his neck bulged. "I will mount your head on my wall!"

The countdown timer flashed zero.

Kael charged. He was undeniably fast with his Level 10 stats heavily boosted by premium gear. He swung the massive flaming broadsword in a devastating horizontal arc, aiming to cleave Vahn in half. The sheer heat of the blade singed the air.

Vahn simply was not there.

He did not use a skill. He just used his base fifty Agility. He ducked under the blazing blade with a casual motion. The fire missed his hair by a single millimeter. As Kael’s momentum carried him forward, Vahn casually stuck out his right foot.

He did not alter the terrain this time. He just tripped him!

Kael’s armored shin caught Vahn’s boot. With all his weight thrown into the swing, Kael pitched forward and face planted spectacularly into the solid runic stone with a deafening metallic crunch.

The crowd gasped loudly.

Kael scrambled up with a bleeding nose. His pristine golden helmet was scratched and dented. He swung wildly, unleashing a flurry of chops and thrusts. Vahn weaved through the assault with his hands in his pockets. He looked less like a fighter and more like a bored man dodging an aggressive swarm of bees.

"Stand still, you rat!" Kael screamed hysterically.

"Your form is terrible," Vahn observed calmly while stepping back. "You rely entirely on your gear. If you fought a Level 5 slime right now, I genuinely think you would lose."

That was the breaking point.

Kael stopped and dropped his broadsword to the floor. His hands trembled with absolute rage. He reached into a hidden compartment on his belt and pulled out a tightly rolled parchment bound in glowing crimson chains.

The moment the scroll appeared, the temperature in the stadium skyrocketed. A suffocating aura washed over the crowd. In the VIP box, the academy instructors leaped out of their seats in sheer panic.

"Stop the match! That is a Diamond Tier scroll!" The Sub Dean yelled with wide eyes. "The Wrath of the Fire Demon! It will melt the entire containment barrier!"

It was an illegal item. A weapon of mass destruction given to Kael by his billionaire father. Using it in a student tournament was sheer insanity!

"Die!" Kael roared and tore the crimson chains.

The scroll erupted. A massive pillar of magma shot into the sky. The flames took the shape of a twenty foot tall demonic entity made entirely of liquid fire. Its heat was so intense the stone beneath Kael’s feet began to turn into glass.

The Fire Demon roared and raised its massive molten fists to smash Vahn.

The crowd screamed in terror. People scrambled over the seats to flee the blast radius. Aria stood up with terror in her eyes, her hands glowing with healing magic.

Vahn did not run. He did not flinch. He just looked up at the towering inferno with his deep purple eyes glowing.

To a normal player, this was guaranteed death. To the EXP Architect, this was a free buffet!

’System,’ Vahn commanded coldly. ’Open Conversion Interface. Target: Unbound Magical Entity. Initiate raw data extraction.’

[System Conversion]

↳ Target Locked. Commencing Conversion.

The Fire Demon brought its fists down, but they never reached Vahn.

A localized vortex of golden digital code materialized directly above Vahn’s head. It did not block the fire, it inhaled it! The roaring magma struck the golden anomaly and instantly began to break down back into its base foundational code.

"What?" Kael gasped and took a step back.

The twenty foot demon shrieked in terror. The golden vortex aggressively stripped the spell of its data. The magma turned into blue pixels. In less than three seconds, the entire Diamond Tier spell was violently sucked into the void, leaving nothing but a gentle breeze.

[System Notification]

↳ Conversion Complete.

↳ 500,000 EXP absorbed into the EXP Pool.

Vahn stood perfectly unharmed in the center of the ring. He closed the interface and looked at Kael. Kael’s eyes were bulging out of his head and his jaw hung low.

"That was a Diamond Tier scroll," Kael whispered. His mind completely failed to process the reality of what just happened. "My father paid ten million credits for that. It is impossible. You are cheating!"

Vahn walked forward. Kael was so paralyzed by shock he did not even try to back away.

Vahn stopped right in front of the golden armored boy. He reached out and lightly flicked his index finger against Kael’s chest plate.

Because Kael’s center of gravity was already compromised by fear, the tiny impact was all it took. Kael tipped backward and fell flat on his back. He lay there staring up at the artificial sky, utterly defeated.

"Thanks for the free meal," Vahn said flatly.

He did not wait for the announcer. He just turned and walked off the platform, leaving Kael crying quietly in the dirt.
