Trudging up the mountain was rather arduous...

Regardless, they all possessed far from normal physiques that allowed them to keep up even as the oxygen in the air got thinner as they ascended.

Cain couldn’t help but glance up at the {Wind Drake}. For some reason, the he refused to take on the glorious form he had shown a few hours ago.

Cain couldn’t help but think to himself,

’Are there limitations to such power?’

Then he shook his head,

’Judging by their earlier words, the don’t usually take on humanoid forms.’

Perhaps it was because it would make their ascension up the mountain easier.

But that didn’t make sense as well. After all, the bodies of their beastly forms were covered in metal-like scales, thick feathers, and tough skin.

Not only that, but physiques of that nature were built to withstand rough conditions like this.

Although he had his questions, Cain decided not to think about it further.

Instead, he turned to Susan who walked beside him. As a healer and someone who didn’t usually engage in physical combat, she was having the roughest time out of all of them. They both were behind the rest of the group.

Cain frowned.

His will bent the space around him. He opened up the {Beastmaster’s Subspace}.

Ruby, now sufficiently healed up since the last battle, trudged out and placed Susan on her back. Although the slope was steep, she surprisingly managed to maintain her balance.

Susan yelped in surprise. Her eyes widened,

"What are you doing?!"

Cain shrugged,

"You looked like you were struggling a bit."

Susan fell silent, then pursed her lips,

"You are oddly observant sometimes."

Cain chuckled then turned to face forward.

’Master... They are scary.’

Cain heard Ruby’s voice reach him from somewhere inside his head.

He patted the Mutant Beast’s side gently,

’Don’t worry. Nothing’s going to happen to you.’

The presence of the three with traces of Celestial Beast bloodline within them was more than enough to send most lesser creatures into shock.

However, with Cain present, Ruby was able to power through. She was also a rather peculiar existence in that regard...

Susan let out a sigh as she leaned against Ruby’s soft fur,

"Still, this isn’t half as bad as I expected."

Cain raised a brow,

"What were you expecting?"

She sniffled, "You know, something worse... Maybe we are just fortunate, but so far, none of us have died. Yet..."

Cain shook his head with a grim smile,

"We have been close to death a couple times now. Maybe our luck will eventually run out."

Susan sighed, "Just for how much longer will we be lucky?’

Cain smiled, "Well, it isn’t all just luck, is it? We have gotten so far in part due to our own abilities."

Susan remained silent...

Cain sighed internally, ’Talking about something like this is depressing.’

He quickly changed the topic,

"By the way, what do you know about the Godly Realm? Most of the creatures we have encountered have been from this place."

Susan looked up at the cloudy skies,

"From what I know, the Godly Realm is where gods are born, in a sense."

She frowned, then continued,

"Calling them gods is a bit of a stretch though."

Cain’s brows shot up,

"Gods, huh..."

Susan nodded, "Most Celestials are gods, but not all gods are Celestials. A god is a being with authority it can exercise over the planes of the world. The fact that most of the beings within the Godly Realm have celestial bloodlines makes it even more likely for gods to be born amongst them."

She paused for a moment then added,

"Although I believe the story goes deeper than that."

Cain was now very interesting. He grinned,

"Well, I’d like to hear your opinion."

Susan blushed then turned away from him,

"This... It’s not my opinion. I just did a bit of digging."

She frowned and stretched out her hand. An orb of light slowly rose up from the center of her palm,

"Apparently, the Godly and Godless Realms were both part of the same realm, but they were split apart due to a series of events."

She exhaled sharply, then continued,

"I can’t give you a lot of details, but according to what I know, the Godly Realm contains the Sacred Lands, while the Godless Realm contains the Hell Realms. After that incident, it was said that both realms within the physical plane became mirror opposites of one another."

Cain couldn’t help but be impressed,

"You seem rather knowledgeable about that."

She shrugged, then smiled a bit, clearly pleased with his compliment,

"I like to read in my free time."

Then she cleared her throat,

"The real reason behind the names of these two realms, I believe, if a rather special thing located in both realms called the Wheel of God." Enjoy new stories from novelbuddy

Cain frowned, "The Wheel of God? What is that? Is it a physical object?"

Susan shook her head,

"Not really apparently, it is a magical formula that contains the secrets to godhood. And it can be found only within either of these two realms."

She continued, "According to what I know, only two Wheels of God are created in both the Godly and Godless Realms every thousand years. Perhaps these creatures are trying to ascend to the Celestial Realm in order to obtain power they would need to vie for the Wheel. Probably..."

Cain couldn’t help but think,

’Cello wasn’t kidding. They see us all, even each other, as enemies.’

The chance to become a god. Who wouldn’t want that?

Although that was currently very far from the goals he currently wanted to achieve, even he couldn’t help but be tempted.

Susan sighed,

"Ths more I think about it, the more certain I am that the rest of this trial will be very difficult for us."

Her eyes narrowed, "We could even lose all our lives."

The possibility was undeniably there. He couldn’t deny it.

He remained silent.

There was nothing he could say. If he disagreed, he would be lying, and if he agreed, it would only make her more tense.

Susan was strong willed, but she also had a golden heart. And each time she was forced to witness gruesome ugly scenes, he could see a part of her wither away each time.

He could try to protect it, but it would do nobody any good.

All he could do was minimize the damage.

A thought suddenly popped into his head,

’Since when did I start caring about others so much?’

He frowned. He had not been like this when it all began. His heart had been colder.

He had even harbored thoughts of completely abandoning any attempts at joining other humans at some point.

That plan has quickly flown out the window when he realized just how dangerous it was.

Now, after having explored a much broader world, he was more understanding, more mature.

He had grown up.

Countless battles had hardened him, but they had also taught him a few lessons in humility and humanity.

It had also taught him how easy it was to die.

They continued on for a few hours, climbing up the mountain side.

Slowly, the terrain became more rocky and steep.

Climbing became more and more difficult with each passing moment.

Asteron suddenly stopped walking. Then he turned around,

"This is as far as we can make it on foot."

He hesitated for a moment,

"We have to fly up to the nearest peak. It is impossible to walk there."

Grim chuckled, "It’s fine. You and your friends can go up. Don’t worry about us."

Cello glared at him, then turned to face Asteron,

"You had head on up, we will meet you there."

Asteron nodded and spoke seriously,

"While we have had our differences and battled one another, I do wish for us to continue this journey together. You need not worry about our intentions too. More than one participant is allowed to pass the trials, after all."

Grim nodded and waved dismissively,

"Sure, sure. Now get going..."

Asteron nodded. Then a burst of white light ballooned out of the {Wind Drake}. A moment later, it has transformed back into its original form.

Sleek, white scales and a row of sharp black spikes along itself spine.

Cain frowned when he realized something,

’The {Cynogryph} I could understand. How do the other two plan on flying?’

Maybe the {Wind Drake} could pull something off but he seriously doubted the Giantess could reach the other peak, which was rather far away, without sending down a rock avalanche.

Very quickly, Cain’s questions were answered.

The {Cynogryph} and the {Giant} transformed the same way the {Wind Drake} did.

With a loud caw, the {Cynogryph}, who’s name was Avalon, shot into the air like a bullet. Streaks of golden lightning shimmered around the beastiform and it quickly disappeared into the white clouds overhead.

"That bastard never waits for anybody." Thern, the Giantess said with a snort. After she had become big once again, her voice was now like roaring thunder.

The Giantess glanced at Evangeline, disdain in her eyes. Her knees bent, and with a single push, she shot into the sky, disappearing into the clouds as well.

Surprisingly, only a dust cloud was produced from the force of her jump, which showed the Giantess had nearly perfect control over her colossal strength.

The {Wind Drake} was the last to leave. An undraft of wind enveloped the Drake’s body, wrapping around it like woven silk.

It turned and stared at them for a moment before shooting into the sky as well.

"Well, We’ll be heading off too." Grim said. Then he turned to Cello;

"Go on. Summon that bird of yours."

Cello glared at him then rolled her eyes. Muttering something under her breath, a magic circle appeared beneath her feet.

A spark appeared at the center of the magic circle. A moment later, it ignited into a conflagration. The conflagration then morphed into a flaming beast in the shape of a bird long, eagle-like bird.

Cello mounted the flaming bird, and a moment later, Grim was standing atop of it as well.

"We shall meet soon again, my dear." Grim said with a chuckle and winked at Evangeline as the flaming bird sparkled into the sky.

Cain couldn’t help but chuckle as well,

"He seems to like you a lot, Eva." He said to Evangeline.

She snorted, "Well I don’t like him."

Her eyes narrowed as they stared at one another for a moment. Then she tore her eyes away and spoke, her voice a bit cold,

"We should be headed up as well."

Now that they were left alone, Cain quickly summoned the {Argent Amphithere}. He mounted the limbless flying serpent and gestured at the girls.

A moment later, the flying serpent dove into the dreary white clouds that surrounded the mountain.
