God Class Awakening: Ascension of the Demon Hunter-Chapter 43: Monster Magnet
Dislodging the dagger from the unsightly creature, it fell towards the ground with a light thud.
The muscles spasmed from time to time, making the already disgusting creature nauseating. Vale shook his hand a few times in an attempt to rid himself of the slime and the unknown yellow liquid.
Following that, he studied the system notification: A common sand worm. Common creatures always grouped together so there was a very high chance that they would encounter more along the way. Much more.
He had gained 7 common demon points from the kill. A familiar warm energy flowed into him and he couldn’t help but smile triumphantly.
For some time now, he had put off grinding for demon points and this had caused him to stagnate. But now, with nothing holding him back, he would definitely be able to grow stronger. Although guessing his luck, the next creature he would encounter would most likely be a true or sacred demon, or maybe even a devil.
Similar to humans, demonic creatures also have six known ranks, with demons being the lowest and also the general term. For the current him, anything higher than a demon would constitute a major problem.
Still, that wouldn’t keep him from continuing the journey.
He carefully pulled out the bag from the sand worm’s mouth, and although it was now covered in a slimy goo, all he could do was ignore the filth.
"What are you planning to do with it?"
Roxy asked, pointing at the creature’s corpse.
He looked at it for a while but shook his head in the end. If it had been any other animal then he wouldn’t have a problem with slicing it for its meat. But this thing was just too... abhorrent.
Roxy understood his disgust and nodded. "Should we get moving?" She asked with a slight hurry in her voice.
"Yeah," Vale replied. "There’s no assurance that it was moving alone. We should leave here now."
He had recovered a bit of his strength, so it wouldn’t be hard to continue the journey.
Picking up Rein, he and Roxy began moving, continuing their journey towards the forest of inverted spears. The maps hadn’t been explicit on the distance, so Vale had no idea how long this would take.
Along the way, they encountered a few more sand worms but these ones paid them no attention and continued on their way, disappearing into the night.
They decided to stop after a little more than an hour, they hadn’t encountered any sandworms in this area so Vale decided it would be the perfect place to catch his breath. Apart from that, there was also the issue of Roxy withholding information. He hadn’t pressed before so as not to create tension within the group. But right now he needed to know.
The sun still hadn’t appeared, and the night was beginning to stretch more than normal. But expecting normal in the prison realm wasn’t normal.
When they stopped, Vale gently placed Rein on the sand; she still hadn’t woken and at this point it was getting worrying.
He owed her, he owed her a lot. Even if he wanted to deny it he couldn’t, she had saved their lives, at the risk of hers. So naturally Vale didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. Right now though, there was nothing he could do other than wait.
Now for the main issue, Vale turned to Roxy with a questioning look, unconcealed on his face.
"Is there anything you’d like to say?"
"What do you mean by that?" She retorted.
"About the titan."
"It was a corpse flower."
"Whatever you call it."
Roxy clicked her tongue then let out a sigh. "I’m not human, okay?" She said.
Vale just nodded and added, "That is pretty obvious."
Roxy raised a brow, but then shook her head and continued. "I’m a mutant, a very rare kind. And powerful monsters get attracted to my... aura.
"Normally I’m able to hide my aura enough to make me invisible, but when I was unconscious I couldn’t do that. That’s why it was able to lock on me."
An enlightened look appeared on Vale’s face; her explanation indeed made sense. But there was another problem: if she couldn’t hide her aura because of her regression then they would undoubtedly be attacked by terrible monsters frequently.
"Don’t worry, though. I’m able to keep my aura concealed now, so unless I get drained as much as before they won’t be able to notice me." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Hearing her claim, most of Vale’s worries were eased. They still had up to three mana stones so he could definitely refill her if she got drained again.
With that settled the only other problem now was Rein. She would twitch and move periodically, but she showed no sign of actually waking up. Roxy seemed to read Vale’s mind as she said: "I might be able to help her."
Vale turned to her with a hopeful look. "Really?"
Roxy nodded. "She’s currently suffering from mana death. Her body is transforming the little qi in her bloodstream into mana to keep her mana reserves from breaking down. This process is causing her to be under extreme stress."
"So... how do you plan on changing that?"
"If you’re willing to part with one mana stone, I can transfer the mana directly into her reserves."
Vale’s eyes immediately lit up as he fished for a mana stone within his robe.
"You should’ve said this earlier," he added, passing the glowing blue stone to Roxy who just shrugged and said, "I thought the qi in her body would be able to keep her reserves from breaking down. I guess I was wrong."
She took the crystal and threw it into her mouth, this made Vale wince a little but it was a necessary price that needed to be paid.
After eating the crystal, she placed her hand on Rein’s head and although Vale couldn’t see the energy, the effects were clear as Rein’s breathing gradually stabilised.
At the same time, the air began losing its coolness, slowly becoming warm. Then the moon, high in the sky faded without haste, causing the entire bottom level to fall into a thick, almost palpable darkness.
This didn’t last long and soon the glow of the sun began to manifest as sharp beams of light tore through the semisolid shadows that had covered the world. Its emergence was slow, but soon enough the light of the sun covered the entire bottom level, driving the shadows into oblivion.
