God of Racing-Chapter 320 - 315: Signs of Discovery
"Ye Qiu, how is it? Are the dishes I made good?"
Xu Jiao looked expectantly at Ye Qiu, who had just taken a bite of her dish.
Ye Qiu swallowed the bite, glanced at Xu Jiao’s eager face, and nodded, "Delicious!"
"Oh, that’s great! Have some more then."
Xu Jiao happily added more food to Ye Qiu’s bowl.
Ye Qiu raised an eyebrow at this.
"Ye Qiu, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Xu Lei, noticing something off about Ye Qiu’s expression, asked with concern.
Ye Qiu shook his head, "It’s nothing, it’s nothing. I just need to go to the bathroom."
With that, he ran towards the bathroom.
Xu Jiao and Xu Lei exchanged a glance.
"What’s going on?" Xu Lei asked in confusion.
Xu Jiao frowned and then said to Xu Lei, "Lei Jie, try some of my cooking and see how it tastes!"
"Alright!"
Xu Lei nodded at the suggestion, picked up the dish Xu Jiao served her, and put it in her mouth, falling silent for a moment.
"So, Lei Jie, it’s good, right?" Xu Jiao asked.
"Uh-huh, it’s good, really good!"
Xu Lei replied with a smile.
"Then have some more." Xu Jiao urged.
Xu Lei’s eyelid twitched, and she quickly said, "Um, I also need to go to the bathroom."
Saying this, she got up and ran towards the bathroom.
"Hey, what’s going on?"
Xu Jiao asked, puzzled.
She then looked at the dishes she had made on the table, picked up a piece, put it in her mouth, and instantly widened her eyes, quickly spitting it out.
She rushed to the fridge, downed two bottles of mineral water before feeling a bit better.
"It’s so salty!"
Xu Jiao exclaimed.
She then looked at the table and recalled Xu Lei and Ye Qiu’s earlier reactions, realizing what had happened.
It turned out she had added too much salt, but Xu Lei and Ye Qiu didn’t say anything to save her face.
Xu Jiao felt touched, but soon she sat down on a chair, feeling a bit down, staring blankly at the dishes on the table.
"I can’t do anything right, not even cooking a dish properly."
Xu Jiao felt a bit sad and distressed.
Just then, Xu Lei and Ye Qiu returned together, saw Xu Jiao’s current look, exchanged glances, and sighed.
"You go comfort her!"
Ye Qiu suggested.
Xu Lei shook her head, "It’s better if you go this time."
"Me?" Ye Qiu was puzzled.
Xu Lei said, "Go on."
With that, Xu Lei turned and left.
Ye Qiu watched Xu Lei’s departing figure, pondered for a moment, shook his head, and then walked towards Xu Jiao.
Xu Lei, after leaving, turned back to look at Ye Qiu and then Xu Jiao, sighed, and left.
Ye Qiu approached Xu Jiao, who was daydreaming, hesitated for a moment, and said, "Xu Jiao, what’s wrong?"
Hearing Ye Qiu’s voice, Xu Jiao turned to look at him, "Ye Qiu, do you think I’m useless?"
"Why say that?" Ye Qiu pulled up a chair and sat next to Xu Jiao, asking.
"I can’t even cook a dish properly, what else can I do?"
Xu Jiao said. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Ye Qiu chuckled, "Cooking is nothing major, you’ll get better with practice, no one is born knowing everything."
"But I!"
Before Xu Jiao could finish, Ye Qiu interrupted, "Don’t think too much, you’ll be fine."
Xu Jiao looked at Ye Qiu, "Can you hug me?"
Ye Qiu was taken aback, but seeing Xu Jiao’s pitiful eyes, he wrapped her in an embrace.
A faint, refreshing scent of a young girl wafted into his nose.
Holding Xu Jiao, Ye Qiu sighed deeply in his heart. He could tell Xu Jiao might have had a tough childhood, having lost her mother early, and if she lost her father now, he couldn’t imagine how devastated she’d be.
"Ye Qiu!"
At this moment, Xu Jiao spoke.
"Hmm?" Ye Qiu was curious.
Xu Jiao said, "Ye Qiu, I don’t know why, but these past few days, I’ve had a weird feeling. It’s very strange."
"What kind of weird feeling?" Ye Qiu asked out of curiosity.
Xu Jiao said, "I feel like something might happen to my dad, like he might leave me."
Ye Qiu was stunned upon hearing this.
Xu Jiao seemed to sense something, "Ye Qiu, what’s wrong?"
Ye Qiu quickly shook his head, "Nothing, nothing at all!"
However, his brow furrowed deeply. Looking at Xu Jiao in his arms, his gaze flickered, uncertain whether she really had such a premonition or if she’d discovered something.
Ye Qiu was silent for a while.
Xu Jiao too, for some reason, stopped talking and joined him in silence.
After a while, as Ye Qiu was about to speak, he found Xu Jiao had fallen asleep in his arms without him noticing.
"Ah!"
Ye Qiu looked at Xu Jiao in his arms, sighed, then carefully picked her up, placed her in her room, and was about to leave when he saw Xu Lei at the door.
"She’s asleep?" Xu Lei asked.
"Yeah." Ye Qiu nodded, walked out of Xu Jiao’s room, closed the door, and prepared to go downstairs.
"Ye Qiu!"
Xu Lei called out to him.
He stopped and turned around, puzzled, "What is it?"
Xu Lei asked, "Is there something bothering you?"
"Something bothering me?" Ye Qiu felt guilty but couldn’t reveal it, so he smiled and shook his head, "What could be bothering me?"
Xu Lei furrowed her brows tightly, looking at Ye Qiu, "Ye Qiu, I feel like something’s off with you. Are you hiding something from me?"
Ye Qiu replied, "You’re overthinking. I’m not hiding anything!"
After speaking, he went downstairs.
Xu Lei followed closely behind. When Ye Qiu sat on the sofa, she stood by his side, watching him attentively.
"Why are you looking at me like that? I’m really fine!"
Ye Qiu said.
Xu Lei insisted, "No, Ye Qiu, there’s definitely something you’re not telling me!"
Despite only knowing each other for a year, Xu Lei was sure she understood Ye Qiu very well.
Seeing his expression now left her convinced something was up.
Ye Qiu furrowed his brow, surprised by Xu Lei’s sensitivity, unsure of what to say.
He could hardly tell Xu Lei he planned to harm her father; he was lost for words.
"Ye Qiu, I feel like you’ve changed."
Xu Lei suddenly said.
Ye Qiu paused, speechless, looking at Xu Lei, "Lei Jie, how have I changed?"
Xu Lei said, "You used to never hide things from me, but now you’re keeping things from me, maybe you don’t love me anymore."
Seeing Xu Lei’s somewhat saddened expression, Ye Qiu deeply sighed, "Lei Jie, you’re overthinking it."
Saying this, he pulled Xu Lei onto his lap, his hand caressing her soft back. He buried his head into her and slightly closed his eyes, saying, "Lei Jie, you’re my first woman. How could I not love you?"
"Then tell me, what are you hiding from me?"
Xu Lei demanded.
"I!" Ye Qiu frowned, meeting Xu Lei’s gaze.
After a long pause, Ye Qiu conceded, sighing helplessly, "Alright, since you insist on knowing, I’ll tell you."
