Chapter 397: Harvesting an Acre to Check the Yield

The convoy was flying down the newly built road in the Southern Territory.

It didn’t take long before they ran into Viscount Roster and his group.

"Lord Knight."

Everyone in the convoy got out of their vehicles and bowed respectfully to Viscount Roster.

They were all from Roster territory, and their boss was Viscount Roster himself, so naturally they treated him differently than they would anyone else.

"You’ve had quite the journey," Viscount Roster said with a smile. "As the first person to drive a magic-powered vehicle across the continent, how does it feel?"

"Absolutely incredible."

The convoy leader grinned. "I never imagined there could be such a convenient way to travel. It’s this amazing feeling that no matter where you are on the continent, you can get there in no time, even as an ordinary person."

"So far, we’ve covered thousands of miles. If we’d been on horseback, it would’ve taken at least a hundred days, maybe even a hundred and fifty."

"But driving these magic-powered vehicles, it only took us twenty-some days, and that was taking it nice and easy. If we were in a hurry, with two people switching off driving, or once the roads are all built and we can drive on flat surfaces the whole way, we could go even faster."

"It’s like the whole world just got smaller."

The convoy leader spoke with real emotion, and the viewers in the livestream felt pretty much the same way.

Just like he said, they’d left Roster territory and made it here, taking the scenic route through so many places. If it had been a regular merchant caravan, they’d probably have needed half a year, maybe even longer. His estimate of a hundred and fifty days might even be on the low side.

Goes to show just how fast these magic-powered vehicles really are.

And that’s not even their limit!

They could even imagine that once roads were everywhere, with magic-powered vehicles you could probably cover over a thousand kilometers in a day. What used to take thirty days might be done in one.

When that happens, both how far people can travel and how far goods can be shipped will get a massive boost.

Viscount Roster was very pleased with the convoy leader’s answer.

After a slight nod, he asked with a smile, "You must have a pretty good sense of our Kingdom of Dawn by now, right? If I had you leave from here and drive a cargo truck to deliver grain to the northeastern or northwestern border, how long do you think it would take? What about to the capital?"

"Just tell me based on current conditions, don’t worry about what it’ll be like when all the roads are built."

"If we’re just talking about right now, I should be able to make it to the southeast or northwest corner within 7 days. If it’s the capital, three days max. If you give me a co-driver, I’m confident I could get there in a day and a night."

The convoy leader thought for a moment before giving his answer.

As soon as he said that, there were gasps all around.

Even the viewers watching the livestream on the Magic Net couldn’t help but gasp when they heard those numbers.

"Oh my God!"

"I’ve traveled that route before, took me about 20 days. Using a magic-powered vehicle only takes a day and a night?!"

"If it only takes a day and a night, why does going to the northeast or northwest take seven days? Shouldn’t it be three or four days? Is there some geography I don’t know about?"

"No, the road from here to the capital was already built because the Church of Technology needed to transport stuff. The roads to other places aren’t done yet."

"So you’re saying once the roads are built, no matter where you start from in the Kingdom of Dawn, getting to the capital will take a day, maybe a day and a half at most?"

"I knew magic-powered vehicles were impressive, but isn’t this a bit much?"

"Actually, when you think about it, that’s pretty much how it is."

"I just wonder what the cost is. I’m a merchant, I’m always shipping goods on this route. If the cost isn’t too high, business is gonna be so much easier from now on."

Viscount Roster didn’t care about the viewers’ gasps and kept walking toward the city with the convoy.

But at the crucial moment, the convoy leader had a thought and asked with a smile, "Lord Knight, are those crops out there the legendary Golden Spike Grain? They look like they’re almost ready to harvest. When can we start?"

Unlike the earlier small talk, this question was something Viscount Roster had asked him to bring up not long ago, so naturally he asked it pretty confidently.

"Yes, that’s Golden Spike Grain, a miraculous crop gifted to us by the Goddess of Agriculture. The Church of Agriculture is working with us to plant it all across the Southern Territory on a large scale."

Viscount Roster seemed quite moved. "Actually, I’m really curious too—just how much grain can this Golden Spike Grain produce?"

"We were originally planning to start harvesting today, but because you heroes have arrived, we decided to put it off a day. We’ll start tomorrow instead, and today we’ll throw you guys a proper feast!"

"You’ve accomplished something unprecedented. Even completing half of it is already incredible, and I’m sure you’ll finish the other half too!"

The convoy members all got a little misty-eyed.

The journey had actually been pretty dangerous, but thanks to thorough preparation, they’d made it through safely.

They’d just thought of this as a really well-paying job. They honestly hadn’t expected Viscount Roster to think so highly of them.

They were all deeply moved.

"Lord Knight, how can we let that happen? The grain harvest is such a big deal, how can you let us mess up your schedule? Why don’t you have people start harvesting right now? We’re curious too—just how good can this Golden Spike Grain be!"

The convoy leader spoke with real feeling, and the other convoy members chimed in too.

Viscount Roster was silent for a while before finally speaking, "Alright then, I’ll have people get ready, and we’ll start in a bit."

"As for the feast we prepared for you, we’ll just combine it with the harvest celebration. Tonight, we’re gonna... party all over town!"

Hearing Viscount Roster’s words, everyone nodded in agreement.

The viewers in the livestream couldn’t help but start discussing too.

After a while, everyone watched as Viscount Roster got all the magic-powered agricultural machinery arranged, when suddenly Viscount Roster changed gears:

"While we’re waiting for the machines to get in place, why don’t we team up with the folks from the Church of Agriculture and harvest an acre ourselves, see what the yield’s like!"

That immediately got tons of support.

Soon a whole group of clerics from the Church of Agriculture gathered together.

At the archbishop’s command, they all sprang into action.

Everyone watched expectantly as the clerics got to work.

Forget the legendary 1,600 pounds per acre—if they could get 500 pounds, people would think this was a gift from the gods!

An extra hundred pounds per acre. What about a hundred acres? What about a thousand?!
