God-Tier Extraction Talent: Reincarnated in a Game-like World!-Chapter 474: Assigning Roles (End)
A few hours earlier.
Gabriel sat at the large desk inside his bedroom. Several papers were spread across the surface while a rough diagram of the camp structure had already been written out in clear lines. The entire layout of the three divisions, the rank system, the captains, and the chains of command had already been arranged. Only one part remained unfinished.
Seraphina was lying sideways across the couch near the window, lazily watching him work. One leg hung over the armrest while she twirled a strand of her red hair between her fingers.
"You have been staring at that spot for ten minutes," she said.
Gabriel did not look up from the papers. "Division Three."
"What about it?"
"There is no one suitable to lead it."
Seraphina tilted her head slightly. "None?"
"None that I trust with that level of authority yet."
He leaned back slightly in his chair and tapped the paper with a finger. Most of the important positions had already been decided. Division One would remain under him. Division Two already had capable people. But Division Three was a different matter. The camp had grown too quickly and there simply were not enough reliable commanders yet.
She watched him quietly before speaking again.
"I could do it."
Gabriel looked up at her.
"You?"
She shrugged lightly and stretched her arms over her head. "Temporary. Until you find someone you like."
He studied her face for a moment. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Seraphina smiled slightly. "What? You already know I am stronger than most of them."
"That is not the problem."
"Then what is?"
Gabriel leaned forward again and spoke calmly.
"You will tone down your charm."
She raised an eyebrow.
"You mean I should stop being myself?"
"Yes."
She laughed softly. "That is a harsh request."
Gabriel remained calm. "If you walk around normally, half the men in this camp will start drooling."
"That sounds like their problem."
"It would become my problem when discipline disappears and everyone turns into a bunch of lustful dogs."
Seraphina stared at him for a moment before sighing.
"You are no fun."
"You will tone it down."
She rolled onto her back on the couch and stared at the ceiling.
"…Fine."
Gabriel added one more condition.
"You will also use a different name."
"You are very cautious."
"That is why we are still alive."
She thought for a moment before shrugging again.
"Alright. I will behave."
Gabriel gave a small nod and returned to the papers.
The matter was settled just like that.
He adjusted a few more names, shifted two appointments, and then drew a clean line under Division Three. Seraphina would appear under a different name. Only a temporary commander. No more than that. It was the safest option for now. Her weakness to sunlight, holy effects, and other things tied too closely to her vampire nature made it a bad idea to give her a permanent public position. One mistake during a fight or one careless display of power and questions would start.
Back in the present.
Seraphina, now Sarah, stood beside Gabriel with her head slightly raised. Her red hair and eyes immediately drew attention from everyone in the room. She did not say anything, but the faint curve of her lips made it obvious she was enjoying the situation.
Her gaze moved across the room one face at a time. She said nothing, but the faint amusement on her expression only made people more unsure about her.
Whispers started almost at once.
"Who is she?"
"Did he bring her from outside?"
"I have never seen her before."
"She does not look ordinary."
"Why would he hide someone like that until now?"
The fact that she was beautiful only made the matter worse. In a place like this, unknown beauty tied to power was always suspicious. Several people in the room had already started trying to guess which faction she belonged to, where she had come from, and how long Gabriel had known her.
Even Sophie looked at Sarah with visible curiosity now. It was the first time she had seen this woman.
And someone as beautiful as Sarah was a threat.
Anna was thinking the same. She had several wild theories. Lately her master had been talking to himself more often ever since he exited that mysterious tower, but she was not exactly certain what it meant.
Gabriel raised a hand and the whispers lowered again.
"Sarah is a close friend of mine," he said calmly. "For the time being, she will serve as the temporary commander of Division Three."
That caused another shift in the room.
Temporary. Commander. Close friend.
Those words together only made Sarah feel even more mysterious.
Gabriel continued before anyone could ask anything.
"This position is temporary. That will remain the case until I decide otherwise."
Only he knew the real reason. Sarah could command, but she could not remain exposed too long or too often. For now, a temporary title gave him room to move her later without raising much suspicion.
She tilted her head slightly and looked at the room again as if measuring them. The expression on her face did not help at all.
At the front, Gabriel moved on as if this was perfectly ordinary.
"Under Division Three, the first Captain will be Cassie."
Cassie froze.
For once, the calmness on her face vanished completely.
"Me?" she blurted out before quickly straightening. "I mean… leader, are you sure?"
Gabriel looked at her calmly. "Yes."
She stood slowly, still looking shocked. Of all the names she had expected to hear today, her own was not one of them. Her start with Gabriel had not exactly been smooth. Even after joining properly, she had never thought of herself as someone who stood out the most. Compared to front line fighters, she was only support.
"I thought…" she began, then stopped herself.
Gabriel finished it for her.
"You thought you would be better off as an ordinary soldier."
Cassie gave a stiff nod.
"You are wrong," Gabriel said. "Your support skills are highly useful. A proper commander does not only need people who can kill. They need people who can keep others alive, reinforce formations, and stabilize fights."
He continued calmly. "Your value to a group is higher than you think."
Cassie stared at him for a second, then lowered her head slightly.
"I understand," she said more quietly than usual.
Gabriel did not linger on it.
"The second Captain under Division Three will be Bunny."
Bunny blinked, then straightened immediately.
"Got it," she said, trying to sound casual even though the speed of her answer exposed her nerves.
"The third Captain under Division Three will be Samantha."
Samantha the necromancer looked surprised but stood without complaint.
"I accept."
With that, the major appointments were finally complete.
Gabriel then moved through the remaining names more quickly, assigning lieutenants under each division and captaincy one after another. Some people looked relieved when their names were called. Others looked disappointed when theirs were not. No one openly complained. The structure was already too clear for that, and his tone left no room for argument.
By the end of it, the room had changed completely. Earlier it had been full of guessing. Now every person present knew exactly where they stood, who they answered to, and what the new order looked like.
Gabriel looked over them one final time.
"The structure is set. The ranks will begin distribution today. Division commanders will receive their first working brief before sunset. Captains will begin sorting their people immediately after this."
He paused briefly. No one moved until he gave the final word.
"Dismissed."
