Chapter 105: 105: A mess outside- Part 3

The countess seemed to be in disbelief over what happened. Her voice trembled as she tried to control her emotions, but failed to do so.

"You... you don’t understand. Why? Why did you do this?"

The countess whispered, her voice raw with anguish.

Sophia frowned.

"Because you were corrupting this place? What kind of question is that?"

Countess Lola slowly turned her gaze toward them, her eyes wild.

"Do you not realize what you’ve done? You didn’t just erase my magic—you’ve doomed Princess Evelyn!" freeωebnovēl.c૦m

She asked, voice shaking.

Auriel, having completed her purification, turned to face the woman, her expression unreadable.

"Explain,"

She commanded and the countess opened her mouth as if to answer but suddenly gasped, her entire body seizing up.

Black veins crawled across her skin like spreading ink, twisting and bulging under her flesh. A horrifying scream tore from her throat as she clutched at herself, her eyes wide with terror.

Auriel’s expression darkened.

"The dark magic was sustaining her."

Sophia’s breath hitched as she scrambled backward, watching in horror as Countess Lola convulsed. The dark energy that had once been infused in her was now gone, leaving her body to deteriorate.

"No... I won’t..."

the countess choked out, her fingers digging into the stone floor as she struggled to hold herself together.

Then, with one final, bloodcurdling scream, her body twisted, contorted, and erupted into a monstrous form.

Dark, leathery wings burst from her back, her hands elongated into sharp claws, and her eyes glowed with a deep, unnatural red. The last remnants of her humanity were gone, replaced with a creature born of desperation and corruption.

A monstrous roar shook the chamber.

Sophia’s exhaustion was momentarily forgotten as she scrambled to her feet.

"Well... that’s just great."

Auriel, her divine aura flaring to life again, took a steady step forward.

"She has become what she feared."

Countess Lola—or what was left of her—let out another inhuman shriek before lunging straight for them.

The monstrous form that had once been Countess Lola let out a guttural, inhuman roar.

Her claws scraped against the stone floor, her new body twitching with uncontrollable spasms as the last remnants of her consciousness were consumed by the corruption.

There was no intelligence left in her, no reason—only instinct, rage, and the overwhelming hunger of dark magic.

Sophia gritted her teeth and forced herself into a battle stance. Every muscle in her body screamed at her to stop, but she ignored the pain.

They had come too far for her to back down now.

"Alright, let’s do this."

She muttered, steadying her magic.

But before she could make a move, Auriel stepped in front of her, raising a hand to stop her. The goddess’s gaze was sharp, knowing.

"You are in no condition to fight. And more than that... you are still contaminated."

Auriel said firmly.

Sophia blinked, her breath catching in her throat.

She glanced down at her own hands, and for the first time, she noticed the faint traces of dark magic clinging to her fingers, like invisible chains wrapping around her skin.

A cold dread crept up her spine.

"This is nothing. I can still—"

Sophia insisted.

"No. The longer this magic lingers, the more dangerous it becomes. I will take care of this"

Auriel’s voice was final.

Sophia opened her mouth to argue, but something in the goddess’s expression made her stop. Auriel wasn’t just worried about the monster in front of them—she was worried about Sophia, too.

Without another word, Auriel stepped forward, her divine energy surging. The entire chamber flooded with golden light as the goddess extended her hands.

Slowly, steadily, she began pulling all the remaining dark magic into herself.

The monstrous form of Countess Lola shrieked, writhing as her own corrupted energy was forcefully extracted from her body.

The creature clawed at the air, trying to resist, but it was no use. Auriel’s power was absolute.

The darkness swirled around the goddess, sinking into her, vanishing into the radiance of her divine form.

The once-powerful creature that had been Countess Lola let out one last, pitiful groan before collapsing onto the ground. Her body, now free of corruption, crumbled into dust.

It was over.

But the price had been high.

Auriel staggered.

Sophia barely managed to catch her before she fell.

"Auriel!"

Sophia gasped, feeling the goddess tremble against her. She had absorbed too much dark magic, taken it all into herself—and now it was consuming her from the inside.

Auriel’s breathing was uneven, her usually bright eyes clouded with exhaustion. She leaned heavily against Sophia, her divine glow flickering unsteadily.

"I... I need to return to the ballroom. I need to—"

She murmured.

Sophia tightened her grip.

"Don’t push yourself. I’ll help you get back. Just hold on"

She scolded, worry lacing her voice.

Despite the circumstances, Auriel allowed herself to lean into Sophia’s support.

The two of them moved carefully, Sophia practically carrying the goddess as they made their way out of the purified chamber and back toward the ballroom.

The moment they entered, the room fell into stunned silence. T

he nobles, dressed in their finery, turned in shock as they saw Sophia half-carrying the weakened goddess. Whispers rippled through the crowd, and tension filled the air.

Before Sophia could say anything, a figure rushed toward them—Priestess Lilith.

Her normally composed expression shattered the moment she saw Auriel.

"Goddess Auriel!"

She cried out, reaching for her without hesitation.

Sophia instinctively pulled Auriel closer, tightening her arms around her.

"Wait. Let me take care of her this time."

She said, meeting Lilith’s gaze with unexpected determination.

But Lilith was relentless. She barely spared Sophia a glance before she grabbed Auriel, prying her from Sophia’s grasp with an ease that startled her.

"Sophia!"

Auriel murmured, sounding almost apologetic, before Lilith pulled her away completely.

Without giving anyone in the room a chance to react, Priestess Lilith turned and swiftly walked out, carrying the goddess in her arms as though she weighed nothing.

A stunned silence followed in her wake.

The nobles remained frozen, unsure of what they had just witnessed. The scene had unfolded so quickly that even those closest to the pair struggled to process it.

Then, after a long moment, Carol let out a heavy sigh and rubbed her forehead.

"This is a mess."

She muttered, exasperation clear in her voice.
