Ethan was shocked by Merrick's words.

'What? Big Brother is making him an Elder of the Family just like that?'

Not only was Ethan shocked, even Rowan was shocked by Merrick's offer to Ethan.

After that, Merrick asked someone to bring Ethan to his new courtyard while he stayed back to have a talk with Rowan.

Once Ethan left, Rowan spoke to clear his doubts; however, before he could complete his sentence, Merrick interrupted, "He is not my secret son."

After clearing the most important doubt in Rowan's head, Merrick started explaining why he promoted Ethan to an Elder of the family.
