Chapter 704: Chapter 400: Crushing All Opposition—I Don’t Understand

"How could this happen?"

As the newly promoted Knight Captain of one of the Four Great Knight Orders of Apocalypse, Edward looked on in disbelief at the bloody and cruel scene before him, a sight that made one feel hopeless. Even with divine armor blessed by the Divine and a sword infused with Divine Power, his body couldn’t help but tremble, both from anger and fear.

As an Apocalypse Knight blessed by the Lord of Burning, Edward had slain countless heretics who attempted to desecrate His glory and majesty.

Not long ago, when he received the summons from the Church Court, learning that in a nearby plane existed a heretical Dragon Clan despising the glory of the Lord of Burning, he did not hesitate to gather all his followers and servants in response to the Church Court’s call.

However, when Edward led all his forces to the Holy Mountain where the Church Court was located, he sensed something was amiss. The Church Court had gathered far too many armed forces.

The Church Court not only summoned the Apocalypse Knights active worldwide but also released many elder knights who had their vitality sealed by forbidden techniques and had been kept in crystal coffins to delay aging. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

This formidable formation both excited Edward and made him feel uneasy. The Church Court was using the foundational strength accumulated over endless years. Once these elder knights were awakened, there was almost no chance of sealing them again; the only outcome was to die in battle.

For these elder knights, this was a release and an ultimate honor. At the moment of death, those who were favored would have their souls ascend to the Divine Country, to enjoy eternity and immortality with the Divine they worshiped.

Therefore, it was evident how terrifying it was. The Church Court understood the thoughts of these knights approaching the end of their lives, so they would never awaken them unless absolutely necessary.

Although their souls would achieve eternal glory, this was a substantial weakening of the Church Court’s power in the Material Realm.

However, even as Edward had a bad premonition, all his fears and anxieties vanished when he saw the Church Court had awakened a full twelve hundred Divine Prohibition Knights and summoned fifty thousand Apocalypse Knights.

What an immensely powerful force; in the current world, no country or power could withstand such a military force. The only way to survive and continue was to bow to the Lord of Burning’s radiance.

However, all confidence and pride vanished when they crossed the Space Gate opened by the Church Court and reached the land ruled by the heretical Demon Dragon. Reality shattered these feelings.

Edward saw very clearly that the Church Court’s Space Gate was opened at an exceedingly crafty location and timing. At the moment the Space Gate opened, those heretics with distinct Dragon Clan traits showed complete bewilderment and surprise on their faces, clearly unprepared or expecting their arrival.

Yet, the scene that filled Edward with anger and even terror unfolded. Faced with a suddenly appearing invading army, those heretics who a moment ago had serene smiles, evidently living in extreme comfort, immediately armed themselves, strapping on armor as if a pack of wolves, pouncing on the elite vanguard formed by young knights.

The vanguard, prepared and almost armed to the teeth, faced an unorganized, spontaneous resistance by the heretic citizens, and like a tender, juicy steak, was devoured and torn apart in moments.

Edward couldn’t believe the scene before his eyes because he was certain these resisting heretics were not trained military personnel.

From their words, actions, and every move, it was apparent they had little coordination, acting entirely on some instinctual hunting, with no military discipline.

Judging by the city before him and the surrounding environment, their living areas were not central, their status even lower. Yet this group of heretic citizens residing on the city outskirts organized such a resistance and counterattack that nearly annihilated the vanguard.

The vanguard was not just cannon fodder; it consisted of elite knights selected from all regions, possessing extraordinary talents. It was formed to swiftly eliminate threatening forces in heretical lands, stabilize the situation, and establish a sufficient camp for the ensuing crusading army.

Though elite, when faced with heretic citizens, even among the ordinary civilian ranks, they were beaten so badly it was unbearable to watch.

"Master, it’s almost our turn!"

The trembling voice of his follower echoed from the side, making the already heavy-hearted Edward even more agitated. Even though the Church Court’s summoned army was still flooding in, the heretical resistance forces were becoming increasingly stronger.

Especially when Edward saw those heretics wearing uniform military armor, evidently signaling the intervention of military forces, it made his heart tremble.

The Griffin Knights, carefully cultivated and regarded as the Divine’s grace and pride by the Church Court, performed even worse on the aerial battlefield than on the ground, collapsing at the first blow. In one-on-one combat, they couldn’t even withstand a single round before having their necks torn open.
