Golden Dragon: Six Thousand Years of Empire-Chapter 964 - 529: Open the Gate, Forbidden Army Brings Warmth (Part 2)
But in the tribe, these primal elves who haven't received the blessing, they can't survive; the bloodline of Wood Elves is too ordinary to resist the Abyssal erosion."
"That's called migration, to other worlds."
"Your idea is good, but who can protect them?"
The Great Elder looked at the young man before him, and just as Thorne was about to speak, he saw the elder gently shake his head,
"You can't. All the elves who have received the blessing of the Dragon Tree cannot stray too far from it. Haven't you noticed?"
"How come?"
Thorne furrowed his brow, indeed unaware of such a restriction, thinking his area of movement was already vast enough, yet hadn't expected such limitations.
"Because the blessing you received is a part of the Dragon Tree."
"Then what about you?"
Thorne was somewhat unconvinced, unable to protect the tribe during inter-planar migration, but the Legendary Sword Saint before him should have the ability.
"I'm very old, somewhat unable to move. I also lack the ability to protect the tribe in inter-planar migration. Originally, with those children still around, I was willing to try, but now, I no longer have such thoughts."
Thorne knew well who the Elder referred to as children, naturally it was the leader of the Azure Dragon-men, Ilya, and her followers. These Azure Dragon-men were initially the backbone of the tribe, without them, the tribe lost its future and vitality.
"Then the tribe's bloodline heritage..."
"One step at a time, we don't have much ability to change things, and can only go with the flow."
"Elder."
"You actually don't need to make things difficult for yourself, nor suppress your desires; just do what you want, in this world that's already turned into wasteland, there's no need to restrict yourself."
"Protecting the tribe's heritage is my greatest obsession and dream."
"You are indeed a good child, but sadly, I've grown too old."
While speaking, the Great Elder raised his arm, and when Thorne was somewhat puzzled, he saw the strongest primal elf gently pulling his sleeve, revealing an arm wrapped in countless Dragon Scale tendrils, sinister yet carrying an indescribable eerie majesty.
"Elder! How come?"
Thorne looked at the elder's arm carrying the dancing tiny tendrils with some shock, feeling the collapse of his belief, such a powerful elf, eventually even succumbing to the Dragon Tree.
"No choice. As one ages, the consumption increases. If I wish to keep going, I can only resort to this last measure."
The tone of the Great Elder was filled with nonchalance, yet laced with helplessness.
"The hardest person in the tribe turns out to be you!"
Indeed, as a Legendary Elf, long-staying within an Abyss-corrupted world, one can imagine the cost, not to mention the cares of a tribe, the exhaustion within is self-evident.
The key is the Great Elder is indeed very old, and the Wood Elves are inherently not high-ranking elves, even breaking through to legendary status, their lifespan may multiply several times, added to ordinary battles and daily wear, it's normal to be unsustainable.
"I prepare to let the Mother Tree assimilate all elves, only in this way can our tribe continue its heritage."
"But if so, the tribe's bloodline..."
"We're neither Silver Moon Elves nor Sun Elves, just ordinary Wood Elves, what's there to be obsessed with? Moreover, doesn't our current form better fit the term Wood Elf?"
At the end, the Great Elder's words carried a tone of teasing.
"You're right."
Though rationally Thorne must admit, the Great Elder is right, yet the pursuit of bloodline and honor stirred an obsession in Thorne's heart, the birth of Azure Dragon-men early instilled caution in this young warrior.
Elves who received the blessing of the Dragon Tree possess an Undying Body; yet after severe head trauma, even if regenerated, they lose memory.
What difference is there between such elves and brand-new life? If the tribe propagates this way, eventually only Azure Dragon-men remain.
"Now the biggest problem is how to get my daughter to agree, for all elves to receive the Mother Tree's blessing."
"Elder, I believe personal will should be respected, not all elves wish to become like us now."
"Hmm, that's indeed so."
Despite the words, Thorne understands, in today's Elf Tribe, the majority of primal elves are willing to receive the blessing, as post-blessing, life's quality visibly improves.
"Though I'm Ilya's father, she doesn't listen to me now. My communication with her is troublesome, hence I wish to entrust you, to let someone like you join Ilya, strive for high position, for your kindred to have a chance to survive on this land."
"I'll try."
Carrying a heavy responsibility on his shoulders, Thorne steps out of the elder's treehouse, standing on the terrace outside, looking up at the hazy night sky, faintly visible, a few shining stars.
Though the world has turned quite dire, in Thorne's heart, his world still holds hope, can be saved. Yet the elder's words shattered all his beliefs.
"Can't the Mother Tree save the world either?"
Thorne looked at the not-so-distant Mother Tree standing like a mountain range between heaven and earth, its majestic aura, and his thoughts were exceedingly complex.
He has witnessed all kinds of powers the Mother Tree displayed, within the scope of its Domain, lands eroded by Demonic Qi can still recover, allowing seeds of various flowers, grasses, and fruit trees to be planted.
Clearly everything is steadily improving, yet the elder says the world is about to be destroyed, about to fall, even preparing for the tribe to entirely accept the Power of Coexistence.
"Probably cannot!"
The Mother Tree can only sustain their tribe, but cannot save the world.
"But what can save the world?"
At the instant such a notion sprouted in Thorne's mind, a loud booming resounded from above the sky, an unprecedented tremor swept across the heavens and earth. Earth quaked, mountains roared, millions of demons trembled under this dreadful impact.
"?!"
Thorne silently gazed at the heavens, he saw the sky torn open, or rather, collided open by a massive spectacular creation.
Crack~crack~crack~
The cracks destroying the heavens swiftly spread, then the fissure rapidly enlarged, and the wonder creation that shattered the sky gradually revealed its full form, a magnificent city shining golden light, or a moving fortress.
"Floating City?!"
Though a low-ranking branch among the elves, still holds ancient legacy. Though never seen before, once the Floating City appeared before oneself, instantly recognized.
"Why would it appear here?"
Just as this perplexing thought emerged in Thorne's mind, meteor showers suddenly fell onto the partially emerged Floating City.
Not a single meteor, but a cluster of meteors trailing golden flames, these meteors' target was quite clear, heading straight for the tribe or rather Mother Tree.
Even if realizing the Demon Tree was this group of uninvited guests' target, including Thorne many Dragon Tree Warriors, found it difficult to generate hostility.
That was because they all sensed the Mother Tree's delight and excitement, like the joy of finding a familiar face when stranded abroad.
"What's in there?"
The earth trembled, the alarming cracks spread, amidst overwhelming dust, a figure after figure of Golden Giants appeared in Thorne's view.
Merely at the first glance with one of the giants, Thorne very consciously abandoned all violent detection methods, as he felt like an inexperienced recruit.
