Chapter 46: Unnerving Connection.

As I picked up the unconscious man, I felt the weight of his body tugging at my arms, though I didn’t miss the subtle exchange with the dark figure lurking in the distance. Hah. They thought they were sneaky. They didn’t flinch, not even as I hauled off their beaten subordinate.

I smirked mockingly. Smart move—who would dare spring a trap with someone like me standing here? The idiot hiding in the shadows probably had no clue that I was the very same person who had intervened the night before, thwarting their mission with flair. They likely thought I was just some overconfident brat from a "righteous" sect. Blissful ignorance. Sometimes, it’s a real gift to people.

The man in my grasp was wrapped tight in my spiritual qi, forming a cocoon so secure that even if he miraculously woke up, he’d struggle harder than a chicken in a fox den. The thought almost made me laugh out loud. Honestly, the odds of him waking up before I wanted him to were as likely as me inviting my grandmother to tea with a demon lord. Now that would be a sight!

Without wasting more time on the shadowy lurker, I activated my spatial technique and teleported back to where I’d left my sister, Yue Linxi, and our companions.

When I arrived, I was not surprised to find that the fight had ended, though the aftermath was... well, chaotic, to say the least. The battlefield looked as if a stampede of divine beasts had crashed through—rubble everywhere, craters in the ground, and one very exhausted group of sect disciples catching their breath.

Clearly, three Heavenly Edge cultivators going all-out was overkill. The area couldn’t withstand the clash of such power, and it showed.

The sect disciples, barely able to stand, were drenched in sweat and breathing like they had just fought a whole realm—though technically, they were only up against some measly Sky Realm demon cultivators. "Measly" being relative, of course.

I sauntered over, the unconscious man still floating behind me in his qi cocoon, and cast an amused glance at Long Zhen and Bai Lifen. "Wow," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Did you two just take on the entire Heavenly Court or something? Or was that just one very angry granny you got tangled with?"

Long Zhen shot me a tired glare, wiping the sweat from his brow. "If you had been fighting them, you’d understand. Those guys were freaks. They were practically made of dark qi!"

Bai Lifen, ever the dramatic one, let out a wheezing breath. "I swear they had six arms! Or maybe that was just my vision doubling after I got smacked into the ground."

I snorted. "Six arms, huh? Must’ve been terrifying. What was your plan? Fight each arm one by one until you got them all?"

Long Zhen’s scowl deepened as he cracked his neck. "One more word out of you and I’ll make sure you fight something with six arms next time."

"Promises, promises." I winked, turning my attention back to my sister, Yue Linxi. Unlike our companions, she was calm—too calm. Her eyes darted toward the shadows where I had just been, and I knew instantly she had sensed the same presence. A lurking figure, watching us.

We exchanged a brief look. No words needed; we were on the same page.

"Sister, stay close," I muttered, adjusting the unconscious man behind me with a flick of my wrist. "We’re heading back."

Without waiting for any protests or questions from the others—who were too busy catching their breath to even think of one—I activated my space Dao, folding reality in on itself and transporting us back to the sect.

In an instant, Yue Linxi and I were standing outside the entrance to my home in the sect grounds. The man, still neatly cocooned in my spiritual qi, floated along behind me like a well-behaved prisoner.

Yue Linxi gave me a look of mild surprise. "That was... quicker than usual."

I shrugged nonchalantly. "Had to speed things up. You know how impatient some people can be." My gaze briefly flicked to the floating unconscious man before turning back to her.

She raised a brow. "What about him?"

"We’ll interrogate him," I said with an exaggerated sigh. "See what juicy little secrets he has about the eyes that have been watching us."

Yue Linxi folded her arms. "You’re sure he’s worth the trouble?"

"Oh, absolutely." I grinned, lowering my voice like I was sharing the best secret in the world. "I think the Heavenly Executioners are watching him. And if not him, then us."

Her eyes widened for a brief second before narrowing in thought. "You think they’ve figured you out?"

"Could be," I admitted. "But for now, we play it safe. I need to know more before making any bold moves."

With that, we stepped inside, the unconscious man trailing after us. I set him down in the middle of the room with a casual flick of my wrist, like dropping a sack of flour.

Yue Linxi leaned against the nearest chair, clearly still thinking about what I had said. "So what now?"

Before I could respond, a bright blur zipped into the room, hovering right in front of Yue Linxi’s face. Miari, my ever-enthusiastic fairy housekeeper, was here, wings buzzing with excitement.

"Back already?!" she chirped, darting around Yue Linxi’s head. "Did you finally finish off those demon sect fools? Oh wait, don’t tell me—you had to bail them out again, didn’t you?"

Yue Linxi shot her a deadly glare. Miari instantly zipped away, perching quietly on my shoulder. "Well, someone’s in a mood," she muttered.

I smirked. "Anyway, sister, now we interrogate this guy and see if he’s connected to the figure we saw earlier."

Yue Linxi sighed, her arms still crossed. "And you really think he’s important enough to be watched by the Heavenly Executioners?"

"Not him, exactly," I replied, pacing the room. "But something’s got their attention. Whether it’s him or me, I’m not sure yet."

Yue Linxi fell silent, her eyes drifting toward the unconscious man, then back to me. "I can’t shake the feeling that this is bigger than we realize."

I nodded. "Agreed. That eye... it wasn’t just watching him. It was watching us." I leaned in closer, lowering my voice again. "And if they saw something they shouldn’t have, they’ll be on us faster than Long Zhen trying to dodge a fight with actual effort."

Miari snickered on my shoulder, but Yue Linxi didn’t seem amused. She was deep in thought.

Before I could say anything else, Miari, who had been unusually quiet since entering, suddenly spoke up. Her voice was soft, but her tone was deadly serious. "Master... this man is connected to something—or someone—so powerful."

Her words sent a shiver down my spine. I exchanged a quick glance with Yue Linxi, who was now on high alert as well.

"Something’s not right," I muttered under my breath.

Miari nodded slowly. "Master. He’s not just some random demon sect pawn. There’s something much darker behind him."

Well, that was just what I needed to hear.

The dream ends today.
