Chapter 101: Chapter 101

Alaric stepped back. He did not smile. He did not look proud. He just turned his head to the nearest Blood Knight and pointed at Jaime.

"Chain him," Alaric ordered.

The giant knight stepped forward. He pulled thick iron chains from his belt. He grabbed Jaime by the shoulder, dragged him to his knees, and locked the heavy cuffs around his wrists. Jaime did not fight back.

Alaric turned away from his prisoner. He looked around the large ring of Lannister soldiers. They were staring at Jaime in shock. Their best fighter, their golden commander, was beaten and chained.

"Your commander has yielded," Alaric yelled. His voice easily carried across the silent valley. "Drop your weapons. If you throw down your steel, you will live. If you choose to keep fighting, my knights will kill every single one of you. Choose now."

For a few seconds, nobody moved. Then, a Lannister spearman near the front dropped his weapon. It hit the wet dirt with a soft thud. A second later, another soldier dropped his sword. Then another. Soon, the loud clatter of falling steel echoed across the whole clearing. The battle was over.

Footsteps sloshed through the mud. Roose Bolton walked forward from the tree line. His dark armor was mostly clean. He had stayed back after the first charge.

Bolton stopped right next to Alaric. His pale, watery eyes looked over the surrendered Lannister army. His thin lips curved into a small, polite smile.

"A great victory, Commander Alaric," Bolton said. His voice was a soft, smooth whisper. "You have captured the Kingslayer and broken their vanguard. The Northern lords will sing of this day."

Alaric kept his eyes straight ahead, watching the Lannisters gather in groups. "Have your men collect their weapons, Lord Bolton. We need to move back to the main host before Tywin learns about this."

"Of course, my lord," Bolton said softly. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Alaric did not turn his head. He was watching a Lannister captain kneel in the mud. He was completely distracted.

Bolton’s right hand slid down to his belt. He did not make a sound. He pulled a sharp, thin dagger from a hidden sheath. In one quick, smooth motion, Bolton stepped right behind Alaric, raised the blade, and drove it deep into Alaric’s back, right between the leather armor plates.

Alaric jerked forward. A sharp breath escaped his lips, and his body tensed up.

Jaime Lannister was sitting on his knees just a few feet away. He watched the whole thing happen. He saw the blade go in.

Jaime raised his eyebrows. He let out a dry, bloody laugh and shook his head.

"Well," Jaime muttered, looking right at Bolton. "And they call me the Kingslayer. You Northerners really don’t play fair, do you?"

The dagger hit the leather, but it did not pierce the flesh beneath. It stopped with a dull clink against something extremely hard right under Alaric’s skin.

Bolton’s pale eyes widened. He pushed harder. The dagger did not move.

Alaric slowly stood up straight. He did not flinch. He just turned his head and looked at Bolton. His face was completely normal no pain.

He reached out and grabbed Bolton’s right wrist. Bolton tried to pull away, but Alaric’s grip was too strong. Alaric twisted his hand. A loud crack sounded in the quiet clearing.

Bolton opened his mouth to scream, but Alaric smoothly took the dagger from his broken hand. In one quick motion, Alaric slashed the blade across Bolton’s throat.

Bolton choked. Blood spilled down his dark armor. Alaric stepped back and let the Lord of the Dreadfort fall flat face-first into the mud.

Jaime stopped laughing. He stared at the bleeding body, then up at Alaric.

Alaric did not even look at the dead man at his feet. He looked past him, staring right at the remaining Dreadfort soldiers. They sat on their horses, frozen in shock.

Alaric turned to his Blood Knights.

"Purge them," Alaric ordered. He pointed his bloody dagger at the Dreadfort men.

The five giant knights moved instantly. They charged straight into the tired Northern soldiers. Heavy swords and maces swung. Men screamed. Armor crushed. The Dreadfort men tried to draw their weapons, but they were too slow and too close.

The Lannister prisoners sat in the mud, terrified. They hugged their knees and stayed low. They did not try to run. They just watched the Northern commander slaughter his own bannermen right in front of them.

Jaime sat in his heavy iron chains. He looked at the dying Dreadfort men, and then at Alaric, who was just standing in the mud, watching the blood spill with blank eyes.

Jaime His arrogant tone was completely gone.

Alaric dropped Bolton’s dagger into the mud. He looked down at Jaime.

"I clean my own house, Jaime Lannister," Alaric said.
