Grand Ascension-Chapter 75: Are You Sure?
"Where did you keep him?"
Yime asked walking with Jorg through a corridor of the VEB. They had just finished the briefing and now she wanted to meet Makun.
Jorg had told her Makun’s current condition and from the report, it was very bad. He was still asleep, with bandages all over his body.
Celine had done her best, however, she was just an Initiate practitioner and could only perform basic healings.
"He is in the medical center of our building." Jorg continued walking heading towards the medical facility. "We have him in a huge quiet room. No one is to disturb him till he wakes up." He paused. "Yime, are you sure?" He asked, uncertainty in his voice for the very first time.
Yime paused, looking at Jorg’s back who had just taken a few steps. "I am, and chief is all for it." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"I get it, but that boy is a walking plague." Jorg recalled everything that happened in Naija City in just one week of him awakening. "It might end poorly," he advised.
Yime resumed walking. "It is ok, Chief knows what he is doing."
Jorg knew they were keeping him, and other members of the MIO out of the loop. There was something Yime and the chief knew that he did not. And it seemed they were going to be silent about it.
He entered deep in thought. He had the chance to meet the supreme chief of the MIO. The one at the head of every branch in all of America.
He got close to him, but it seems he was not close enough to learn about certain things.
Not that it mattered, he wanted a quiet life right now.
"We are here." He said as he pushed the door leading to the fifth story.
The medical center occupied the entire fifth story of the VEB headquarters, but you would not know it from the outside.
The door leading to it was unremarkable, plain gray metal with a biometric scanner beside the handle.
The moment they stepped through, the air shifted. The frequency changed. They stood in a space that looked nothing like the sterile, bureaucratic building they had entered from.
It was a modern clinic, sleek and pristine, with white walls, polished floors, and examination rooms lined with medical equipment that hummed faintly with spiritual energy.
Ashe pulsed through the space in visible waves, faint golden threads woven through the air like a second circulatory system. Charms hung from the ceiling at regular intervals, carved with intricate symbols that radiated healing energy into the surrounding environment.
The staff were not VEB agents. They were contracted mystics, mostly first-grade Initiates on the healer route, young practitioners who had chosen medicine over combat. They sat around the reception desk or leaned against counters, their expressions somewhere between bored and restless. Naija City was quiet.
However as soon as they saw the boss enter, they scurried up and bowed to greet him.
"Greetings sir." They greeted, their voices loud to express respect.
Jorg slowly nodded.
"Amanda, direct me to Makun." Jorg turned his head to speak at a young teenage girl who had been working here for a year.
Amanda nodded. She was a valiant young girl, and always eager to work. Now that Jorg had asked something of her, she was going to do her best.
She took Jorg and Yime to where Makun had been. A private room, spacious and quiet.
He laid there alone. It was the second time she had seen him this week. The first time he had been taken care of and thrown in a dungeon, and this time he had been placed in a spacious room.
It seemed something changed. She could also tell that the change was not just his status, but his Ashe.
Whenever she approached him, she suddenly felt the need to destroy things. She craved destruction, and had almost lost her head to her own madness.
The first time she treated him with the help of Celine things had not been like this.
She stood in front of the door, scared to open it. The always eager and valiant Amanda wanted nothing to do with Makun.
"Thanks, Amanda. You can leave." Jorg noticed it and dismissed her.
Creeeeaaaak!
They slowly opened the door and inside was an unconscious Makun, his body full of bandages.
Second time! Jorg shook his head.
Yime was surprised. She had not imagined his situation to be so bad. They needed him, in good health.
She slowly walked toward him. However, as soon as she took steps into the room, she was bewildered.
Destroy, burn, corrode.
She could feel the information in the air. And all it wanted was chaos. She felt it because she was a higher tier. Someone of a lower tier might not even notice and would just go mad.
She now understood Amanda’s fear.
Her own spiritual energy was of superior quality, dense and refined through years of comprehension and combat. Her Route Core hummed steadily within her chest, a fortress of structured Ashe that grounded her in her understanding of reality.
She walked, not stopping, not affected by the madness in the air, and slowly reached where Makun lay.
She placed a hand on his left arm, and circulated some cold energy into him.
Impossible!! She wanted to verify something. However, what she saw left her speechless.
"Jorg, why is he a third-grade initiate already?" She said, confused. "Your report said second-grade. Why is he close to being an apprentice?"
Jorg rushed to her. What did she mean by close to becoming an Apprentice? He had just become a second-grade initiate 2 to 3 days ago. Impossible!
He held Makun’s hand roughly, and inserted his energy into Makun.
To his shock, Yime told the truth.
The Ashe circulating throughout his body was one that belonged to third-grade initiates, and from the quality of this spiritual energy, was closer to that of an apprentice rather than an Initiate.
What is happening with this boy? Jorg thought, his nonchalance vanishing.
