Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship-Chapter 232 - Waiting – part 2
Yang Yi saw the system prompt and finally realized that he had hauled the fish onto the foredeck, and that the old captain had seen him.
But it didn’t matter.
There was no need for navigation in the end zone anyway.
If the old captain wanted to go on strike, he could go ahead.
Yang Yi turned his thoughts to what to do with the big fish.
According to the system message, it could be used for a vending spin.
But before that, he wanted to test its “trophy effect.”
Besides, Suna might be interested in it too.
He emptied the Charred Worm Ring and stored the massive anglerfish inside.
Then he climbed the mast to the gallows, took down the Spider Queen’s head, and replaced it with the anglerfish he had just caught.
【Evaluation: A medium-sized demonized giant anglerfish. Its appearance is hideous, its body covered with bullet holes, its death gruesome and unsettling.】
【Effect: Ship durability +500; nighttime lighting brightness +20%; more likely to attract nearby creatures.】
“Attract creatures?”
Yang Yi frowned at the words, then immediately took the anglerfish down and put the Spider Queen’s head back.
The trophy effect only added 500 durability and a 20% boost to lighting, barely useful.
But the side effect was dangerous.
“Attracting creatures” could easily mean attracting something lethal, and Yang Yi had already learned that lesson.
The Giant Bobbit Worm’s head had once lured a Pale Worm to the ship, nearly sinking the Nightmare Star.
He wasn’t planning to hang this thing up again.
The stat bonus was weak, and the downside too risky.
Carrying the fish, he headed to the witch’s lab, found a clear spot, dropped it on the floor, and shared the data on the demonized anglerfish with Suna.
“Take a look at this fish I caught. Think you can make a potion out of it?”
Suna examined the fish, slit it open, and soon her attention was drawn to the still-glowing lure on its head.
“I might be able to make a potion that makes your head glow,” she said.
“What for?”
“So your head will stand out more in the dark,” she answered.
“That’s it?”
Yang Yi was speechless, his expression clearly asking, Are you serious?
“There might be other effects or side effects,” Suna continued carefully. “I can’t be sure unless I brew one and have you drink it.”
The only thing she was certain of was that after drinking it, Yang Yi’s head would glow like a lightbulb.
“Oh, that’s so useful,” he said dryly.
He pictured it and couldn’t help thinking how ridiculous it would look.
He put the fish away again, deciding to use it for vending instead.
If he caught another one later, he could always try making a potion then, not that he expected much from it.
Suna didn’t argue. She wasn’t that interested in the fish anyway. Instead, she collected a few of Yang Yi’s nails, some wolf fur, and several vials of blood, saying she’d use them to brew a higher-grade psychic potion to restore mana.
Using dissolved high-energy protein bars as the base liquid could enhance many potion effects.
Yang Yi returned to the bow, pulled out the massive anglerfish, tore off the glowing lure, and tossed it into the monster vending machine.
The octopus-headed machine’s tentacles lit up in shifting colors.
Yang Yi barely reacted. He’d seen these same effects countless times. They didn’t actually affect the results.
Now, if it glowed gold, that would be something.
A plain-looking capsule popped out. Yang Yi picked it up and checked the information.
【Name: Giant Anglerfish Lantern】
【Type: Ship Equipment (Relic)】【Quality: Rare Item】【Description: The lantern from a giant anglerfish’s head. Can be placed on any flat surface. Emits a soft phosphorescent glow that dispels illusions such as fog, mirages, or hallucinations. Fishing near the lantern increases catch rate by 20%. Its light may attract nearby creatures.】
“A lantern that boosts fishing success?”
Yang Yi studied the information and looked down at his hand.
The capsule had turned into a small lantern ornament, looking as if it had been cut straight from the anglerfish’s head, complete with a fleshy tendril still attached.
But Yang Yi was already familiar with ship equipment. He knew that once installed, this thing would enlarge to full scale.
He went to the bow and fixed the lantern to the outer hull. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
As expected, the lantern expanded, its diameter reaching nearly thirty centimeters, casting a bright light that illuminated the area around the ship.
Yang Yi took out his fishing rod and decided to test its effect.
Not bad at all. In just half an hour, he caught two long-legged sardines, far better than his usual rate.
He put the lantern away for future use whenever he went fishing.
…
A week passed.
More and more players had left the Bountiful Sea.
The New World Fleet was expected to break away in five days, and most other players were moving at about the same pace.
The Nightmare Star didn’t encounter any nearby ships, but Yang Yi did spot another player’s vessel near the edge of his crystal-map radar.
It was a standard ship, renamed Titanic.
Yang Yi couldn’t understand why anyone would pick such an unlucky name, but maybe the player did it on purpose for irony.
In any case, the ship had survived this long, so it seemed to be working out.
Yang Yi didn’t bother sending a greeting. The other player probably had no idea where the Nightmare Star was.
Until that afternoon.
(There was no real day or night in this region, but Yang Yi still kept to a 24-hour routine.)
He was exercising in the courtyard, doing push-ups with a water-filled barrel balanced on his back, when ripples appeared in the air behind the Nightmare Star.
A ship about thirty meters long emerged from the distortion, its bow hung with a very familiar giant anglerfish lantern.
Yang Yi stood up immediately, his eyes narrowing on the newcomer.
And the other side clearly saw the Nightmare Star too since he hadn’t activated the Twilight Veil.
This area wasn’t large, barely a hundred kilometers across, so if multiple ships entered while he was cloaked, there was a real risk of collision and chaos.
Better to stay visible and keep a safe distance.
He glanced at the crystal map, saw the ship’s name, and couldn’t help smiling.
What a pleasant surprise.
He sent a private message:
“Brother He! Didn’t expect to see you here at the end!”
It was He Qi, captain of the Fisherman, a veteran angler.
“Yang Yi?!
This is your ship? Damn, I thought a boss had spawned here, you scared the hell out of me!What’s with your ship, man? It’s freaky as hell!”
He Qi’s reply came quickly, along with his appearance on the bow.
But to be fair, his own ship wasn’t exactly ordinary either.
The Fisherman had the giant anglerfish lantern hanging from its bow, and a massive pair of claws mounted on both sides, apparently salvaged from a colossal crab.
